I have never rated an instructor here before, but this guy is necessary. This is my last quarter and I have had my share of bad experiences. McBride's lectures ramble and are incoherent. He goes off on tangents for several minutes and then gets back to the point for two or three sentences. He reads problems out of the book and never goes through the mental mapping of how the math works. Do not take this class unless you really want to be a tax accountant, then take it as a grad course because it is exactly the same. Worst choice I have ever made as an elective. I would have dropped it, but I want to graduate this quarter.

His class is very ridiculous. In the course catalog it says you get the option to take the class on internet or in-class. This is a total lie. He`s only in class one of the days and is extremely late. The other day you have to listen to the lectures which are not posted in a timely manner. Ususally a couple days to a week. I would stay as far away from him as possible. The only thing you will learn in his class is how to download PowerPoint slides. His group projects are ridiculous as well. they take countless hours and only worth 5% of your grade, which is equivalent to a 10 point quiz. Definite NO

Terrible! Stay away if taking for beginning accounting! Course was taught half online half in class. Horrible, made me hate accounting even though it`s my major. For his lectures all he did was talk while he showed the slides taken from the aouthor of the textbook. His favorite comment "it`s self explanatory." Constantly referred to his tax class how wonderful they are and basicaly made us feel like idiots cause the stuff he lectured on wasn`t so self explanatory to us unlike his tax class. He doesn`t believe that the basics of accounting is important (such as T-accounts; bookeeping aspect) yet for the final take home he expected us to make perfect financial statements which ofcourse requires the fundamentals of bookeeping. Oh, and when his cell phone rings he picks it up and simply has a fifteen minute conversation with the person calling him. Not kidding! Also, he boasts about how he taught at Berkeley for five years, well as far as I`m concerned he should go back there and torture them. (For credibility of reviewer: written by a Junior who gets As and Bs works full time and is a full time student.)

Professor Gary McBride is honestly a very demanding teacher. He expects a lot of effort and time from his students for study in his classes. however, he is also a very understanding, caring, and knowledgable professor especially in taxation. if you want to just get by and not do the work, professor mcbride is not for you. But if you are devoted to learning, you will not be disappointed in his classes.

I would not recommend him at all. He considers everything self explanatory. The only thing you learned was how to print the slides from power point. The class is taught on-line and you have the option to attend in class one of the days. The catalog didn`t mention this. His projects are ridiculous and count as much as a 5% quiz. You will learn little if anything form his class

He is a very hard professor don't take him. If you want to take him i would advise you not take an online class. his lectures are hard to understand as their are long and sometimes he brings in topic that doesn't belong to the chapters that can confuse you during the exams. If you want to play with your GPA then take him eitherwise i would say take someone else.

Professor Gary McBride is a respectable professor who also taught taxation courses through California CPA Continuing Education. He is a tax expert and you will learn a lot from him. Students who grade him as "terrible' only want an easy A and learn nothing. He is well respected not only in academics but many practicing tax practitioners respect him a lot

I changed my major because of him. you won`t learn anything from his class. You can however take his class instead of a computer class and will learn the same thing: How to use power point. This is all I learned the whole quarter because everything is self-explanatory

You will understand taxation and love it!!! A lot of work, you must read the entire textbook. Exams are short. I remember taking a ten question midterm. If you miss more than 3 you are screwed. He actually gives you hints a day ahead, just listen.

I think his teaching style is very easy, open minded. He doesn`t give students too much pressure as he understands taxation course already demands a lot of student`s time and self disciple. He is a nice person.

He is the worst teacher ever. His lectures were bad, he recycled lectures from a previous class that was an advanced class, so they made no sense. His test were too hard and tricky.

DON`T TAKE AN ONLINE 2251 ACCOUNTING CLASS!! This will screw you up for 2252 and 3200. He`s probably a good "in-class" instructor, but online sucked.

Gary McBride is an absolute asset to the CSUH faculty. His lecture style truly illustrates his passion for the subject. He challenges his students but certainly makes an effort to answer all questions either in-class or through online threaded discussions. I was fortunate to take Professor McBride for two classes and look forward to further instruction with him. He determines your grade from a combination of objective and subjective exams...half are take-home and all in-class exams are open book, notes, etc. If you are willing to put the effort in, McBride can offer you a plethora of knowledge and an up-close-and-personal look into the "real" world of accounting.
