Tracy is a total blast. She's pretty silly with her old-fashioned sense of humor but really goofy too. The tests were cake. Just follow along on the study guide--what could be better or more easy? Lots of cool class policies like starting late and watching LOTS of movies! We could even bring in snacks. I highly suggest this soft approach if your learning style is more attuned to sitting around talking rather than lots of notes or challenging books. Nothing but net!

Dr. Brady did a great job of explaining everything during class. I didn't open the textbook once nor did I study for the exams or final but went to most of the lectures and got a high B. I'm sure if I would have studied then I would have easily gotten an A. She grades the essays fairly, she tells you what she is looking for. She is energetic but some of the classes would still get boring. Overall she is a good teacher.

HIST 352
American West Since 1900

Dr. Brady was by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. While the class in itself is not that interesting she inserts a quick joke here and there to keep everyone awake. She has three exams including the final that require a short take-home portion which were on some additional readings, nothing too hard. The exams were challenging but not horribly difficult so long as you were in class and took notes. In addition she would have discussions over the three books that, again so long as they were read, would not give you trouble. The only thing I did not like was the paper she assigned. It is a ten page paper that requests you compare and contrast a book from the class and an outside book which is not hard but she gives you the assignment near the beginning of the semester and makes it due before break, you will complete forget about it until a week before. Everyone in my class forgot about the paper and rushed to the library to take every book on the American west... Overall awesome teacher, and good class.

Professor Brady is more than willing to help you out if you let her know what is going on! She'll look over essays, give you stragegies, etc. The class is straight forward. Tests are over lecture notes and a couple of questions from a novel you read. The novel is easy reading and extremely interesting. You have a few essays to write that answer questions about textbook readings....don't slack on them....back up your writing with examples from the essays and let someone look over it....it needs to be solid. Overall great way to get a history credit, really not that hard of a class.

I have gotten A's in every other history course I have taken (including 200 and 300 level classes) and struggled to get a B- in her 151. No matter how many times I went in or had my paper looked over, it was never good enough, and she even failed me on a paper for reasons i'm still unsure of. My first B after 2 years of college...NOT WORTH IT. Not to mention she focuses on things like bills and legislation instead of actual important events.

Dr. Brady is a GREAT history professor. The books that she assigns are fun to read and do a great job expanding on what is being lectured on during class. The only text that I did not need for the course (don't buy it) was the Major Problems source book. Tests are composed of 3 ID's and 2 essays - very similar to Guardiola's, but easier. You must attend classes if you want to get anything out of course, and use the words that she writes on the board as the guide for you notes.

Brady's class is very straight forward. The majority of the tests are based on in class notes, with a couple of questions on the Delaney Sisters book. Read the book about the Delaney Sisters! It is easy reading and actually very interesting. The only other readings you really need to do are in the American Experiences book. These are essays that you use to write your papers on and also used to answer take home exam questions. I didn't really touch the other textbook, but if you don't go to class I guess it might be useful. As far as grading goes on essays, I think the majority of my papers were graded by TA's not Brady. Just make sure that you have evidence to back up your point and check your grammar. Also, if you are unsure if you are on the right track, take your essay to Brady! She won't tell you how to write it, but she will read it and give you hints about what you could add and point you in the right direction. Brady is a really sweet professor who understands you have a life outside class! Just go talk to her if you are having issues. Also, I'm not really a history person, but I got this material because Brady focuses on concepts and relating history to real life, not about memorizing a bunch of dates and names.

Pros: Easy going, talks at a slow pace: great for taking notes, great sense of humor. GREAT study guides.
Cons: LOTS of material. Be prepared to write your hand off every class. Bring a laptop instead. Not really sure how to ever work the computer/projector, but it's endearing and funny and not usually a problem.
Dr. Brady is easily one of my favorite professors I've ever had at CSU. I've taken both 352 and 348 with her. She is easy going and will work with her students. She also makes sure to know each persons name by the end of each semester, which I was impressed with. She lets you know exactly what you need to know for the exams and there are never any surprises. She does put a lot of information into one semester of class, but that's generally how it is for history classes. You have quizzes and discussions about once a month on books that pertain to the subject matter, usually they are actually pretty interesting reads. If you're looking for a good grade, just do what she asks and you'll do fine.

PHENOMENAL PROFESSOR!!! Incredibly willing to help out of class. She wants everyone to succeed. She's very understanding about when things come up. Very good and entertaining in class. The books she picks are usually pretty interesting and arent too tough. Ive taken her several times and will continue to take her as much as I can. I miss a lot of class and shes incredibly understanding. Ive never gotten below an A in any of courses. If you want a fun course or need to lighten your class load a little i recommend this. The best thing you can do is go to her office hours the first week or two to get to know her. Once you get to know her itll be much easier. Oh and her tests are fairly easy and straight forward. About 8 terms and pick 3, then an essay on the notes, you pick one from 2, then an essay on the book and you pick one of 2. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Extrenely ridiculous grader. She would get point-deduction happy and on papers...papers that were about pointless readings half the time...she would deduct points, and lots of them, for ridiculous reasons. When she lectured she would give you all kinds of useless information (like what a presidents favorite meal was) and then questions on the test that you never remembered going over. Out of all of the classes i took, i got the worst grade in this class when all my other classes were actually over challenging material. If you go into talk to her about how badly she grades your essay, she'll give you a couple points back when she realizes "it's a solid B paper" according to her, yet, the extra points still only make your grade a C. I worked hard in this class and went to every lesson and i still did bad...

I have taken several undergraduate classes with Dr. Brady and would highly recommend her to both history students as well as those looking for a lower division history requirement. While some say she is a boring lecturer, I disagree. True, some of the topics she covers in lectures or discussions are not the most interesting, but these topics only last for a day or two before she moves on to a "juicy" history story or period. Dr. Brady takes a genuine interest in her students and I have seen her repeatedly give students second and even third chances because she honestly hates giving students poor grades. If you take one of her classes, make sure that she gets to know you (i.e. ask her questions outside of class). Once she knows you, she takes a vested interest in your grade and you as a person.

Tracy is pretty much a good teacher in every way. Her class is fun and the workload is reasonable. To do well, you need to go to class, and stay ahead of the game when it comes to the one big project and the reading assignments. The only thing that i had difficulty understanding with her, was my grades. Everything in her class is written (tests, quizzes, etc.), and I was constantly getting 89's, thus pissing me off. For someone who always gets A's in history I was a little confused when I got a final B+ for my grade. Plus, I understood all the material, probably better than many who got A's. This is just a word of caution to practice thinking or writing out the essays before the exams (she gives you a study sheet) which I never did for time issues. Other than that, I highly recommend her.

This was a summer course. I enjoyed it: Dr. Brady offered some opportunity for discussion, showed some videos, and required three books that were particularly interesting. She graded the tests (essay) very generously and offered constructive comments and praise to the class as a whole and individually in the blue book itself. Additionally, I never dreaded going to class; she made it interesting. However, she often ommitted from her lectures discussion of some of the economic and political motivators of events which suggests that she may not know these things. Some might say this was a good thing, making it really easy to score the A.Some tips: take good notes since there's no textbook and write down all the identifications before the test. That's the best preperation for this class.

Great teacher! The subject is boring, there is nothing you can do about that, but the teacher is very nice, and she explains history in a way the is very easy to understand. She goes through the material in a way that is easy to follow. And most importantly, she does not care about dates. In history you usually have tomemorize dates, but not in her class. Her test follow the note exactly. Maybe about 1-2% come out of the books. you can use spark notes.com to get the info out of the books for this class. She is a great teacher, and as long as you attend class and memorize the notes for the test, then you will get an A or a B in the class. Take this class with this Teacher, you will be happy with the decision.

Definitely take this class with Brady. She is really cute and easy to listen to and makes lots of jokes only she laughs at, its hilarious. The tests are a total breeze because she practically tells you what the essay question is going to be and gives you a list of key terms before the test, and those are the only things you are tested on in the multiple choice. Honestly, no need to buy the text book, i opened it once and never again when i realized she only tests on what she says in lecture, the book just provides clarification (which you dont even need)and supplemental information. If you go to class and review your notes, easy A, for sure.

Dr. Brady is one of my favorite history professors! I have taken two courses with her now and both of them were great. She presents her material clearly and if you have a question, she makes sure to try and find the answer. We had three tests and a paper for this course. The paper was based off of an interview of someone from the time period (like a grandparent), so that made it fun and interesting! This course covers the basics of the two wars and the depression. Though I had learned much of the material previously, there were still things Dr. Brady introduced us to that I hadn't heard before! Take this class!

While we went in depth about social history (with a lot of time spent on business, unions and strikes) I felt that she left out a lot of vital information in the time period; for example, she completly left out talk about the annexation of Guam and Hawaii and there were a good three or four presidents that she did not even mention. What she did cover was presented well, however. She assigns a few books and quizes that you should be fine in as long as you skim the book and focus on main concepts and a few important chapters. Overall, I thought she was very good even if this class was fairly narrowly focused.

You have to go to class! It is also in your best interest to keep up on the readings if you want an A. Course load is not too heavy. She's fun to be in class with because how excited she is about her subject. My only issue is that she does not give ANY SLACK what so ever!!! I took her class, went to all the classes, completed two extra credit assignments, got solid B's on exams and papers up until the final which dropped my grade to a 79.1% I e-mailed her discussing the issue at hand to try and receive a B, but still no luck, even after numerous conversations. Overall good teacher though.

Tracy Brady is a very enjoyable professor... She presents things in a simple easy to understand way. She might be a little behind on the technology thing (she still shows 'grainy overheads') but she is really nice, easy to talk to, understanding and fair in her classroom. The class is made up of three short answer/essay tests four or five book quizes and a 7 page paper at the end of the semester... It's not that hard if you go to class before the tests and get the review sheet (everything that could be on the test is there for you) and read the books! If you do, you'll be set!
