ARTH 101
History of Art I: Ancient to Medieval
5
Pros: 1. Hilarious. Some might find him boring but I personally thought his jokes and comments were hilarious if you know not to take him seriously
2. The midterm was easy as long as you knew what he lectured. Nothing was a surprise. He let you know exactly what you needed to know.
3. You get to pick a work of art from anything that we covered. No deadline for the paper and you can rewrite it as many times as you want until you get an A.
4. very accommodating. I was not able to take the final on when scheduled and he was very helpful with rescheduling.
Cons: 1. Sometimes boring if you are not an art buff.
2. Don't take if you are planning on not putting any work/effort in. It's not hard but its not easy.

Boring as hell, midterm and final are crazy hard. You have to memorize 70 pieces and all his multiple choice answers have 'none of the above' to totally screw you over. The essays (yes, plural) on the tests are based off of anything he's ever talked about in class, so you better have a freaking amazing memory otherwise you won't do well. And, class is such a snoozefest, so you probably won't have remembered everything he's said. Hard, boring, not at all fun.

Pros: The man really knows what he's doing. Knows way more than Art History than most in the department. He's a nice older guy who tries to crack a lot of humor in class, without coming off as too silly.
Cons: If you're serious about Art History he's the best in the department to take, however if you're not, the class can be a bit of an overload, especially on the two papers and exams.
He's also not for technology, and will make you do your reports IN the library.

What a horribly sexist old man. He is just in general obnoxious. He is anything but a fair grader, and relies too heavily on attendance (I received a high grade in this course, I'm not bashing the man on a personal vendetta, this is just what I observed). I wouldn't suggest taking a course with him to anyone, especially if you aren't good at writing papers. I think that his Chaucer paper was quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever had to write.

Dr. Morscheck is an excellent professor. You really learn alot from his class. His tests are really fair, and in fact, if you go to class, that should be enough for you to get at least a B. There are 2 papers for that class, however, he is not strict with deadlines.
He is always willing to help out if you have questions.
Great Professor, and I would take him again any day!!!

Don't take this guy unless you really, really love old art. I don't and it was TORTURE. I had absolutely no desire to pay attention to a word the man said. Like I said, I didn't really have an interest coming into the class, but his boring, BORING lectures didn't help that at all. I hear the other instructors are better and I'm sure that's true

good news is the seats are comfortable...bad news is they need to because the class is so boring u cant help but sleep. the material isnt very interesting even though i like art. this seems like more of an archeology class to me. its ok though cause the papers a breeze and chucky here doesnt seem to believe in due dates.

He is an amazing teacher. He would always excuse absences, take late papers, and be UNDERSTANDING! His tests are hard, if you don't study. If you don't care about art history, why bother taking the class at all? And he is definitely not boring. He treats students with respect and would always ALWAYS help you!

Pros: He definitely knows what he is talking about
Cons: He does not like modern electronics
I recommend studying the artwork listed on the big list when studying for the midterm and final because those are the only things that he will test you on. There is a lengthy paper you have to write by week 8.

Pros: Knowledgeable
Cons: A little dry
He talks a lot, hates technology, and knows absolutely everything about art history.
If you want to get a comprehensive understanding about art history, take Morscheck. If you aren't passionate about art though, you'll probably hate the class.

I would definitely take him again. He really cares about students and gives extensions, helps you with your work, and doesn't require all that much. you'll know exactly what will be on the test, and as long as you study, you're guaranteed an A.

I HEART MORSCHEK! This man is absolutely hilarious! Don't listen to everyone else. Any boring stuff he says is made for by random funny comments and amazing hand gestures and reenacments. I LOVE THIS CLASS! Best art history class ever!

very boring....and he loves to try to trip you up on tests....there is no bull shitting his guy, either you know the material well or not at all. And avoid the oral final exam....that killed me! The papers were graded easily though.

He can be pretty funny at times, but for most that class is a sleeper, the warm room doesnt help either. But hes a really fair grader and his tests, well they arent easy as pie, but if u study you'll do well enough.

Morscheck is a nice guy...if you ask for help he will give you more than plenty. His test can be hard if you dont study, and no real deadline on papers. Some interest in art would be helpful to learn in this class.

very intellectual man who gets way into art history. not hard to get a "B" if you study a fair amount and attend all lectures. dates are very important to him on the test.

Very very boring...bring a pillow but make sure you're there to "sign in." If given the choice always take Gregory, he's always interesting and not such a tough grader.
