Dr. Schreifels is a pretty good professor.. just make sure you read the book and ask any questions you have in class. Also make sure to pay attention to the practice problems he does in class. He's good about taking time to meet with you, answer your emails, and will usually extend deadlines on quizzes and tests if asked in class. You need a PC with Internet Explorer to do the quizzes.. fyi.

iclicker quizzes everyday. There are 3 exams. If you practice the assessments you get 100 on all exams (takes a lot of time). Quizzes are exactly like the practice cd you have to practice a lot to get a 10 in all of them. Homework and quizzes are fairly hard and contain material that he never went over in class, so u have to spent a lot of time in the tutoring center. The final exam is nothing like the tests, exams or homework because it is conceptual and not based on math like the homework, exams or quizzes. Class average on the final is 50. He curves so that the class average becomes a D. Extremely time taking class. You practically have to rush through in the end.

He is difficult to understand because he talks as if there is information that we should know that he hasn't yet taught. He's a super nice guy and is completely willing to help if asked for it. Sit in the front and ask questions. He has i-clicker quizzes basically every day during which you can discuss the questions with the people around you--easy A's. Sit in front and ask questions.

Not a bad course- stay on top of readings and assignments and use the practice quizzes on blackboard for the chapter quizzes and tests and you'll do just fine.

Very smart but a terrible teacher. I-clicker quizzes every class with quizzes and tests outside of class time. 4 chances on quizzes, 2 chances on exams.

Pros: I guess....the homework problems helped

-can take tests up to 2 times

-quizzes up to 4 times.. but they are hard!

Cons: -Bad teacher

- Can't teach... can't speak up--he is really smart and knows his stuff just too shy

- tests are hard

General Chemistry II

Pros: Your grade in this class will directly reflect the amount of work you put into it. The homework assignments are all opened back up for full credit at the end of the semester, you get 2 tries for all 3 midterm examinations, and you get 4 !!!!!!!!!!!! tries for each quiz. Not only that, but the quizzes directly match the practice quizzes on the CD, which you can take a million times if you want. If you don't end up with a 100 quiz and HW average, you just aren't trying. Final grade is curved. A lot.

Cons: If you don't print out his slides and carefully track what he's saying, you'll get lost. He really knows his subject, and I think he doesn't realize that it's not conceptually easy for most people to pick up. But, he makes himself available to explain it, and he's excited about teaching, so that makes up for it.

I didn't learn as much chemistry as I would have liked in 212, but that probably has more to do with the fact that it's been a few years since I've taken 211, and I signed up for too many classes. You really can't ask for a more fair professor; he understands that we're there to learn, and EARNING an A isn't all that hard to do (but you'll be disappointed if you think he'll just hand one over to you).
