Go to lecture because he puts questions on tests that are not in the book.
There was also an optional project to do instead of a test. It was worth 105% so there was incentive to do it.
A friendly guy, and good teacher.

Let me just begin by saying this is the most boring class I've ever taken. If you are looking for a blowoff class, this is definitely not it. His lectures are really boring and sometimes difficult to follow. You really need to be paying attention and writing down EVERYTHING he says. I went in to see him during his office hours once before an exam-I didn't have any trouble contacting him. However, I had a lot of questions, and every time he would begin to explain something, he would say, "Well, I showed this in class, don't you REMEMBER?" Obviously I didn't, which is why I was there. He made me feel completely stupid and I felt like all of my questions were dumb. Everything he told me was extremely helpful though, he only gives you information that will be on the exam and hints at what you'll need to know. The exams themselves are set up so that there's the option of two formats: typical multiple-choice or short answer. TAKE SHORT ANSWER. It'll ask for definitions, short explainations, and essay topics; you only have to answer 9/10 of the definitions, 3/5 short explainations, and 2/10 essay topics, which only require writing about half a notebook sheet of paper for both topics. This is the better option because you can write about the information you know about rather than having to memorize everything ever covered in lecture. There are 2 exams worth 30% each and the final; you can write a paper (he gives you a list of acceptable topics) to replace one of the exams worth 35% instead of 30%. You have to choose which exam you're going to skip beforehand though; you can't fail an exam and then try to replace it with the paper. Don't even bother buying the book, or just share with a friend; all of the exam info is from his lectures. Anything you might learn from the book can just be googled.

This teacher does not specify what to study for and what he wants for the tests. He also offers 3 tests but you can only take two of them. He also grades the two essays very weird and complicated. If you don't pay attention one day, your screwed for a long time.

Basically this class wasn't too hard.. the only bad thing is there's no textbook so you have to go to all of the classes to get the notes he puts on the board. Also you have to read 2 books and write a 5 page paper on them.. I got an A- on the first one and worked my ass off on it.. the second one he doesn't tell you what you get until after the final which is optional

Pros: Occasional attendance quiz.
Cons: Occasional attendance quiz.
He likes to talk a lot about history. Also it seems like he thinks that a majority of the class knows the history of the world and likes to ask random questions that don't really deal with class material. Sometimes he gets off topic too. Overall, unless you like history I wouldn't recommend the class.

I've always found History boring, but Profesor Johnson shows a passion for it. This man is not afraid to admit he was wrong. Amazing teacher! He is here to teach however he cares more about preparing his students for life.

He is hard to pay attention to. He speaks in monotone and changes subject very often. He will jump from one topic to another and go back and forth like it's no big deal. If you read the material you should do fine.
