This man's class is a joke. Don't show up for the class -- you will get NOTHING out of it. He lectures from a powerpoint, but the lectures are ridiculously boring. He doesn't care if his students understand the information, he just spits it out and his tests are really vague. His class is too much of a pain to deal with (even as an elective!). It's too much work for something people care too little about. Take someone easier (and better) so you'll actually get something out of the class. :)

Though I have heard from other sources this class can be very interesting, I did not particularly enjoy Edwards' class. He puts powerpoints on moodle each week which is nice and makes it easy to keep up if you miss a class. He says a lot in class that isn't on the powerpoints though. He also moved our exams a lot. I could never keep up with test dates. He has 3 exams and a final. Lowest test score dropped. A do-able freshman intro if you are just looking for a class. Recommend going to class though.

Pros: Can miss class. He puts up all of his power points online before your tests and you get study guides. He drops your lowest test grade as well.

Outside readings are usually gone over in class.
Cons: Tests get increasingly more difficult. Make sure to understand the topics on the study guide rather than to just memorize the topics given.

- field trip to New Orleans

- small classroom setting so more one on one with teacher

Cons: - tests are very specific regarding detail

- large end of semester project

- small classroom setting so attendance is noticed

- 3 books to read w/ material covered on test

The class was boring. I only enjoyed some of the stuff we learned. And you have to buy like 5 books for the class. The only plus is he provide's a study guide, it just takes 4 days to complete them.

Pros: Knows a lot about the subject and has lots of first hand experience through his ethnography.
Cons: You have to go to class to get the full experience even though the powerpoints are on moodle
