Professor Newman is very knowledgeable about economics, but what we went over in class only represented about 20% of what was on the exmas. The class is hard, so I disagree with his structure of the course as well. We had only 3 exams and the Final. the first quiz/test/exam in any course is when the student is figuring out the format/content of the test and what they should be looking for when studying next time. Because the first evaluation was an exam, the class average was a 56% for that one. 1/3 of the class dropped after that exam. we were, however, allowed to drop one exam, so that was helpful to most students. If Proffessor Newman had given us more quizzes along the way, I think the whole class would have done better... The only person I know who managed to get an A in this class had already had econ in high school and, therefor, knew most of the information coming into the class. I've always been an A student, but I'm just praying that I passed this class.

Pros: New what he was talking about
Cons: He is very unapprocable and could never seem to find him during office hours. Knew what he was talking about but had difficulty explaining it to the class
Talks about beer, steak, fishing as examples for the entire semester

Pros: None.
Cons: SUCKS. He can't teach. He speaks down to the class regularly and doesn't want people to do well.
Take someone else for intro to econ, he teaches grad students and expects the same out of freshman.

Pros: He knows his stuff very well. All of his real world examples are about beer and cigarettes, so it's very relatable.
Cons: Only 4 exams (one is dropped) make up our entire grade.
Econ in general is a difficult subject. Yes, about 1/3 of the class drops after the first exam, but that happens in most beginning biology classes as well. Compared to most the people I know with other Micro teachers, he is more lenient with his grading, and the final exam questions were exactly like his first 3 exams (all of Econ 2000 takes same final).

Newman is one of the more down to earth professors in the economics department. he's really patient, which is important because 2000 is the first micro class so it's new to people. he curves his tests generously, but not as much in the honors section as the regular section. he's always open to helping students outside of class and really cares that they learn the material.

LOVED this teacher although everybody hated him.

Go to his lectures, sit in the front, answer the question he asks.

He knew my name by that way. His tests are extremely hard (you really have to know the stuff in textbook) but his final counts 40% of your grade and it was easier than his usual tests.

Not impossible to make an A if you do what he tells you to do. (READ THE TEXTBOOK)
