Pros: He was honet with students about what would be on an exam and gave 1-2 exam questions out in class. He taught the class as a nonmajor course but still expected you to know the material.

Cons: exams are more difficult then expected.

He was a very good teacher if i could i would take him for other courses. He made it easy to understand the material. Would def recommend him.

Polluck is very helpful during his office hours. His exams are wordy which is why it's so difficult, you definitely have to take your time reading and trying to understand what he's asking for. His quizzes are easy because if you print them out he'll go over them with you the day they are due.

Pros: An AMAZING teacher. He really knows his stuff and does a good job translating it into "English". His exams are strictly from his notes, but you MUST go to class to get thorough notes and actually understand them...you cannot just memorize his powerpoints and assume you'll get an A. He has a lot of office hours. I suggest you go to them. He is such a nice guy and really cares about his students doing well. He is not intimidating at all during his office hours and is not at all arrogant. Going to his office hours frequently allows you to get a feel of what is going to be on the exam/ what material is important. A lot of times if you have questions and you ask one he will be like "Did I talk about that in class?..Well then you shouldn't worry about it". Reading the book is NOT needed at all. Also, there are 2 exams...which is great because you only have to worry about an exam for this class twice and all the other weeks you can focus on more diffficult classes.

Cons: Mastering Biology quizes are somewhat of a pain to remember to do and these quizes are pretty difficult sometimes. He does though do a huge curve at the end to make up for this. Get a 80% to 100% on all of them and you will for sure have an A under your belt for this section.

Go to class+take good notes and comprehend them well+study a little each day+don't read the book+show up to his office hours frequently+remember to do your Mastering Biology quizes and score 80% to 100% on all of them ===== EASY A

He's an awesome teacher! He has a sense of humor, and he knows the material. I missed a lot of class, and I wish I would have been able to go to more because he gives a lot of notes. His exams were pretty difficult, but it helps that he posts the slides on moodle before the exams.

Pros: Very good in explaining the information in laments terms for non-bio majors and is very accessible for office hours. He shows interesting videos pertaining to his lecture that gives you a better insight of the lecture, and is always happy to answer any questions.

Cons: If you are looking for an easy A, it is highly unlikely unless you are a Bio Major. he is a very good professor, but he is also very difficult, and there is a great deal of information you need to retain in this course that will show up consecutively in the homework and quizzes, as well as the exams.

Establishing a relationship with this professor will benefit you in your studies, and he is very friendly. just dont cut up in his class or you will be looked down upon with a devilish glare...

Pros: he posts his power points on moodle and you can easily get them on note swap. He REALLY know his stuff and expects his students to know just as much as he does.

Cons: His tests are EXTREMELY hard. His questions make you second guess yourself, and things are on the test that he spoke of in class but isn't in the book or on his powerpoint slides. Average for the first two test in my class were a 64.

He's Canadian and he basically hates America, especially Louisiana. If you don't mind him shoving Darwinism and how much he hates Bobby Jindal down your throat then he's a good teacher. He's thorough and puts homework/quizzes up on mastering biology (which I have 100+ %) on right now- it helps out your grade in the long run.

He teaches it like a major class. His tests are very difficult...I found that going to class everyday and paying attention and doing study guides and all that still didnt prepare me for his exams. I ended up with a C for the class but my friend got a B...It's okay..enough to fill the requirement painless enough.

Pros: easy-going, extremely helpful, tells you exactly what to study for exams, very considerate of student problems, take suggestions from students about class managements and applies them too!

Steve Pollock is one of the best biology teachers I have ever had! Very highly recommended!

Pros: he is really good at explaining things and is very helpful outside of class. trys to answer all questions and make sure you know the material

Cons: this is such a hard subject matter that its hard to learn everything. the tests are hard sometimes even when you study a lot

Amazing. Best biology teacher/instructor/professor I've ever had. Its a shame he got let go because of budget cuts. I'm sure many worse professors got to stay because they were "more qualified".

Going to class is really important in order to do well. He will tell you this at the beginning of the semester and then you will probably learn for yourself. He usually gives out a few exam questions during lectures, and sometimes gives bonus points on tests if you're in class. It doesn't happen much but it helps. It's a hard course and you definitely have to study in advance. There's always a few questions on tests that aren't going to be in your notes or in the book so you really have to KNOW the material if you want an A or B. And he says the textbook isn't necessary, but again if you want a decent grade, it is.

Pros: The fewer exams are good to get used to if you plan on going to graduate school or medical school.

Cons: However, if you don't do well on one exam, you could find yourself dropping the course.

Even though it is a difficult course, he is very helpful in his office hours. As long as you come up with questions about material you do not understand as you study and visit his office hours, you will do well in the course.

Pros: He wants to help you. He gives in-class assignments to help your grade, you get credit for just doing them. He posts his outlines online for you to review and study from. GO SEE HIM! Go to his office hours to review, you'll get a much better grade.

Cons: His test are really hard, but if you go to his office hours they become much easier.

The class overall wasn't as bad as 1201. I liked Pollack more but its still pretty boring. Tests are hard and the homework can be tricky. Evolution, plants and fungi aren't the most interesting topics. The teacher was great, but the course itself is pretty boring.
