BIOL 1001 - GENERAL BIOLOGY
Great Teacher. Knows the material and is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Genuinely concerned for his students education. Still have to study and do the work to get a good grade. If you want an A you'll have to get comfortable with drinking coffee and pulling all-nighters!!!

BIOL 1001 - GENERAL BIOLOGY
Pomarico is an extremely difficult teacher. He expects you to know the material backwards and forwards and be able to apply it. If you're used to getting A's in Sciences....you may not want to take him.

He's a pretty funny guy. Very enthusiastic. He makes a boring subject interesting. Just make sure you go to class because sometimes he does in class quizzes just to check if you're there.

Pros: Loud, makes the lesson interesting. Easy to talk to in a one-on-one conversation.
Cons: What is being taught may or may not be on the test. No real way to know. Wording on tests may be very confusing.
I like Prof. Pomarico as a teacher, but do not like the tests. He is one of those that doesn't quite help you transition into college, you're just thrown in. Believe me, I like Pomarico's teaching methods, just not the graded material.

Pros: He curves EVERY exam, you get to take a pretest for every exam. It dosen't count against you and it asks the exact same questions as the real exam.
Cons: Nothing, it was a great class. He is a really nice guy who not only knew what he was talking about but new how to communicate that information.
I would recommend this class above all else. You have to TRY to get a bad grade.

If you want an A, you should thoroughly read the book and understand what is going on in the class. Dr. Pomarico is a really nice guy and definately knows how to teach! He is always willing to help if you need it and explain all of the problems on the pretest. He is a very thorough teacher and goes into great detail. Awesome guy!

Pros: He gives you the notes beforehand
Cons: Sometimes those notes aren't on the quizzes/tests
Good class if you need a GPA bump if you're WILLING to go. Does a lot of clicker quizzes, so attendance is bascially mandatory

Pros: he posts all his notes on moodle



in class events are easy points to boost your grade
Cons: his notes are not enough to help you pass the test and they're kind of confusing.



his test are computer based



he's extremely boring... which is why i stopped going to class.
honestly the only reason i did not do well in this class is because i didn't study and didn't come to class as everyday which is why i missed most of the in class events. if i would have tried harder i would have done a lot better. He seems like a pretty easy teacher so i do suggest taking him if you cant find an easier teacher to take.

Pros: Very enthusiastic about what he is teaching, and goes out of his way to help you. Gives a pre-test before every test. Curves for almost every test.
Cons: His tests are extremely difficult, and he tries to trick you by giving answers that seem very similar. He curves way more for his 1001 students than his 1201 students. He gives an online quiz for every chapter, and you only get one chance to answer. Be prepared to study a lot if you take him!

Pros: He curves the tests

He gives out of class quizzes about once a week which really help your grade. He gives inside class quizzes but drops 5 and he drops your lowest our of class quiz. He also posts his notes online.
Cons: holds class to the very last minutes
I really liked Pomarico. His classes were interesting and he was really good at teaching the concepts. With his quizzes and curves its impossible not to do well in the class!

Pros: really nice guy, knows his stuff, can just talk about it and make it sound interesting.
Cons: final is cumulative, online quizzes every week, as well as attendance taken most days. his tests are pretty tough, gotta be careful with the way he words questions.
took him for BIOL 4087, though he usually teaches intro level bio. though you can probably get away with not reading the textbook, i highly recommend it

Cons: but this semester has been bad for me... so i'm failing right now. plus, i'm an art major and i'm still disgruntled at the fact that i even have to take these stupid general classes. WHY DID I BOTHER WORKING IN HIGH SCHOOL TO PASS ALL THE GENERAL CLASSES I AM TAKING YET AGAIN IN COLLEGE!?!??!?! >:[_____]

Cons: Ridiculously Hard

Arrogant
Stay away from this guy. First 2 tests I got high A's on then on the third test I got a C. The next class he was bragging about how he put questions on the test that he knew we weren't going to be able to answer and said we needed to get used to that. This class was the most work I have ever done for a B in my life.

Funny

Curves on almost every test

Practice exam for every exam
Cons: Material covered on each test is a lot
Great professor! Probably the easiest for 1002. Practice exams really help seeing what kind of questions will be on the exam and sometimes you'll get the some of the same questions on the real test.

Pros: Really makes you understand the complete mechanisms of whatever you are learning.

pretests are allowed
Cons: lectures are boring and can be over your head at times.

tests are very detailed
Not a bad teacher, really knows his stuff but can be a bit too detailed for a freshman.

Pros: He's enthusiastic and answers questions. Pretests.
Cons: His tests are much harder than the level at which he teaches the material. You WILL HAVE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK. A LOT.
He's not bad if you know how to study well on your own.

Pros: He provides an entire outline of the notes at the beginning of the semester and he also puts them on moodle. He is also a very hands on teacher.
Cons: He will often do in-class group assignments that he uses for attendance.
