ECON 2030 - ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES
Roussel will rub some people the wrong way, and he definitely makes his tests "tricky," but overall he's a good professor. If you go to class, take notes, and go to labs, you can definitely get an A or B.

Don't let other ratings on Koofers.com fool you- Charles Roussel is one of the best instructors I've ever had. If you are taking a course with him it is likely you are a direct admit to the College of Business at LSU. As such, he expects a higher standard from his students. Most of the people who hate Charles are upset because their binge of drinking in Tigerland with their fraternity's was not enough studying to let them pass his course.
If you are a student interested in economics, business, life, or anything at all other than drinking and partying, Charles Roussel can provide the tools and resources to get you there. I cannot recommend him strongly enough.
NOTE: If you are struggling in his class, take advantage of his office hours. He wants you to succeed. Believe me.

Pros: Awesome teacher! Go to your lab section, go to the lectures, PAY ATTENTION, and you will receive AT LEAST a B. I did this and made out with an easy A.

Roussel is the best econ teacher there is. As long as you read the chapters, go to class, and take notes in lab this class is a piece of cake!

Pros: Class is very challenging. Class attendance isn't necessary, but lab attendance can seriously boost your grade.
Cons: The class itself was nearly impossible, and he can sometimes respond to questions in an arrogant way. I found myself (an A student) struggling very hard to get a B. Roussel chooses questions so as to get the distribution of grades he wants, not necessarily to help the students (or at least, that's how he came across.)
Take the class if you have to, but put it in an otherwise light semester because it'll take up a lot of your time. Buy the book and go to the labs--use those to help in case you get confused!!! Old exams help too.

Pros: He is very passionate about the subject. He will always be willing to help you if you go to his office hours. Curves very generously. On a 28 question test he throws out 5-7 questions.
Cons: His tests are extremely hard no matter how you prepare. You must go to class and office hours if you want an A.
A lot of people seem to have issues with Charles, but most of them don't know how to prepare for a college level class. You must want that A if you want to succeed. If you don't put forth at least some effort, expect to fail. But if you legitimately want to learn economics, this professor is the one to take.

Pros: Go to class and labs and you'll have a good base toward the exams. Do the questions from the book that he lists on daily outlines to prep.
Cons: Exams are so crazy hard, that he curves 15 to 20 points each. Came out of them feeling like I'd been beaten. I don't like it when my grade doesn't reflect the amount of work I put into a class. Word got around that he curves again once the grades are figured... ours weren't.
If you're wanting to know the subject, you'll do that. If you're used to making "A's" when you study hard... sorry...

Pros: Very helpful
Teaches it so you can understand it.
Speaks Clear English
Offered test review before final.
Cons: Random conversations before class.
I took his course during the summer...I highly recommend it. You still cover the main topics but the content is condensed and straight forward. Final wasn't cumulative.
I suggest you constantly read the book, ask for clarity, and Join a Study Group.

Pros: he's a nice.. knows his shit and tries to make economics interesting
Cons: his tests are horrible! only 25 questions and then the final is 50. i never go higher than a C. i would study everything (old tests, lab questions, textbook, notes) and start studying at least a week before the exam. he makes the test entirely to difficult for a non-major class

Pros: He is an interesting fellow and keeps the lecture part of class entertaining.
Cons: The test are pretty difficult so you can expect a B or C in the class and in rare cases and A
It's a survivable course but you will have to study and attend the labs to get your participation points.

Test are managable if you figure out his little tricks; study time though needs to be high if you want to do well.
