The only homework he ever gives is just reading assignments. The class is mainly note-taking and exams. He has no final exam, rather 3 separate exams. The only catch is that a good 90% or so of your grade is on these exams. To do well in the class, you MUST do well on the exams. Studying for the exams is simple for me, since he does not put material from the book on exams that was not covered in class lectures/notes. Therefore, about half of the reading you won't be tested on. He posts the lectures online a week before each exam. Overall he's funny, his lectures (compared to other teachers) are rarely boring, and he's a great teacher overall.

Hambrick is the best teacher I've had at MSU. He holds 2 review sessions before every exam (2 exams and a final), in which he tells you everything that will be on the exam. He tells you that if he didn't discuss it in lecture, it will not be on the exam. Therefore you DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. I didn't use it once. If you go, the class is pretty interesting because he is younger and laid back and tells some funny jokes.

Basically, you don't need to go to class (unless you want to), just go to the review sessions and look over the slides before the exam and you will get a 4.0.

I really liked him, and i'm not a psych major. I went to class, took notes, and skimmed the book. Easy 4.0 if you pay attention. It's really not that hard to sit through and you can miss some classes and keep up. He posts his lecture slides online a week before each exam, which is really nice. He is a good guy and not a bad teacher. I really liked this class and would recommend it even to non-psych majors.

the class can be boring. But Hambrick is a good professor who cares about you learning the material. The test can be tricky sometimes but it is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is take notes and study the power points

Pros: Easy points on the experiments.

Exam 2 and Final were easy

Hambrick is a great guy. Great Personality. Tries to remember students names.
Cons: Only 3 exams (including a final), so 2 unit exams which means it is heavily graded on two exams.

Unit 1 exam was more difficult b/c it consisted of much more.
If you want a PSYCH 101 teacher that is an easy 3.5 at least (I got a 4.0) then get Hambrick. He is an energetic guy. Always in a good mood. First exam was kinda tough b/c I had 25 pages of notes (computer) while the 2nd exam was only 17 pages. He puts the ppt slides online so really not that much of a dire need to go to class. I barely 4.0ed the class, but I would say to do the experiments before the 1st exam. I got 19 of the possible 22 credits (11hrs,) done before the 1st exam. You need 14 for full 5% and 3%extra credit for another 8credits. He is a good guy, but you don't need to stress that much if you just want to get by, but to 4.0 you will still need to study quite a bit. He gave us back the exam questions from the first two exams before the final which was helpful. But I don't think he will give any extra credit or curving grades at the end of the semester. Also, you don't really need the book. I opened it maybe 5 times all semester.

This class is interesting and fun. I am doing well (most likely a 4.0 depending on the final) The first exam I got a 45/46, second exam I got a 43/47 and this past exam I got a 42/47. Oh, I did take AP Psych last year so it kind of gives me an advantage, but I do still study. Moreover, I am a psychology major so I take this class very seriously. I have missed 2 classes the entire semester, but got the notes from the TA. Attend class, take YOUR OWN notes, and you will do well. I rarely read the book, so the person who said reading the book will make you do well does NOT know what they are talking about. I'm actually mad that I bought it. There are questions off the test that pertain SPECIFICALLY to information relayed in class that cannot be found in the book, usually 4-5 questions out of 50. Skipping the class and reading the book MAY allow you to get an A. Really, though....there's no reason to skip the class. It's by far one of my more interesting classes (he uses powerpoint rather than overheads). I have no idea what the other PSY professors are like, but as far as I am concerned, I'm glad that I had this class with Dr. Hambrick. I realize this review is really long, but I want you to feel informed about your decision.

I hate this class!!! I am so pissed off right now! I am currently RETAKING psych. b/c of blowing off classes my freshman year. So I looked on allmsu to see who the easiest psychology prof. was and hambrick had awesome ratings, so I took this class. I go to EVERY lecture, read every damn chapter we are supposed to read, study my ass off for the tests, and know everything on the study guide and average about a very low 2.5 on the the 3 tests we have had so far. He has def. changed something b/c he is not an easy professor- besides being disorganized and annoying, his tests are too hard- and believe me coming from someone who has taken psychology for the 2nd time and does everything you're supposed to do to get a good grade- this class is way too hard b/c of hambrick's difficult, irrelevant to anything tests!!!!! UGH!!!! I would stay away from this test if I were you, don't listen to the old ratings b/c he has changed!

I gave hambrick a 3.5 even though i'm on pace to either 2.0 or 2.5 this class. This is my 2nd time taking this class and trust me when i say he could have made this material MUCH harder and he could have made those lectures MUCH more boring. If you find this kind of stuff boring, as I do, there is nothing he can do to make it interesting but he tries. He also makes himself accessible out side of the lectures and seems to genuinely care how we do in his class (i.e. giving us extra chances at the experiments and the writing option). To those of you who are freshmen and are giving him bad ratings because you didn't find the material interesting or his lectures entertaining, welcome to college and if you think this class was bad drop out now and save yourself thousands of dollars.

Hambrick is a good guy - I'm on pace to 4.0 the class this semester (need an 85 or so on the last exam). The class is doable and not particularly difficult, even if some of the questions come out of left field.

He's a decent guy - he realizes when he makes mistakes, and tries to fix them. He also explains things very thoroughly in class, to the point that he ended up lopping material off of the tests so that he didn't have to teach it.

He also tells usually one bad joke/funny thing per class, some highlights being "To be good at any activity, like beer pong, you have to practice. Yes, I've played beer pong," then there is also, "Tell me he does NOT look like Satan," and my personal favorite, "There's Sparty!"

Hambrick is an asswipe that needs to be thrown out. He acts like he cares, but if you go to see him during office hours - his recommendation is to 'talk to his TAs' - cause he's too lazy to help out students himself. He thinks he's cool, but he's the lamest guy ever. He's sooo boring, class is painful to sit through. Even if you do all the readings and take excellent notes, you'll still do horrible on his exams - they are made by Satan. SWITCH OUT. I mean that seriously. I thought it was a joke - but now I probably failed, and have to make up 4 credits - cause Hambrick is a douchebag. If you want to pass - read way in advance, go to ALL classes, and pray that you do well.

This is by far the easiest class I have ever taken at MSU. Zach is an awesome guy and constantly gets distracted by the new drinks he has at every class. He gives students a 10 minute break which is cool and shows some really cool video clips.

The material is sooooooo easy and DO NOT buy the book-I didn't crack mine open even one time. There are three exams that are 50 questions each and there is no final. I think I got 5 questions wrong over 3 exams so I ended up with a 4.0. Just do the study guides. There is extra credit and the labs you do are really interesting. Honestly, if you can't 4.0 this class you really have a problem.

Pros: -Really chill teacher. Although this lectures can get pretty boring, he's a fun person and trys to engage everyone in what he's talking about.

-Will let class out early sometimes and even canceled one day
Cons: -Has technical difficulties with his computer a lot

-You definitely need to put the time in to remember the material
Professor Hambrick is my favorite professor at MSU so far. He is very passionate about psychology and actually cares about his students. He's done a lot of cool things research wise which adds to his lectures. Exams are difficult, but if you study hard enough for em you'll be fine. Overall great class.

Hambrick is a sorry excuse for a professor. His lectures are pathetic power point presentations taken directly from the book. In fact, once I asked him after class if he had ever heard of treatment for Tardive Dyskinesia and he literally opened his text and read to me from the chapter that I had already read. Thanks for nothing, douche. Anyway, his tests are fairly easy, but his lectures are so boring that I spent four hours a week thinking of creative ways to off myself (even when he had a guest speaker come in, class was boring as hell). Don't waste precious time and money on this red-pants wearing waste of space.

Pros: practice quizzes available
Cons: BORING LECTURES!
This class was horrible. The lectures were so boring and mono tone that it would a chore in itself to stay awake through them, and reading from the book was no better. This subject really interested me but hearing the information in the way it was presented made me despise the class! There are 5 exams and THAT'S IT! no other homework assignments and no other way to add points to your grade! I'm a horrible test taker and the exams were timed and you can only view one question at a time which is even worse .... I would def. not take this class online it was THE WORST!

Professor Hambrick is amazing! Of course you aren't going to do as well if you aren't interested in psychology, or if you plan on sleeping/skipping class.

The whole point of college is to go to class, so I recommend that in general. He admits when things are boring, gives a break when some other professorss won't, and tries his best to make things interesting by bringing in outside examples, youtube, and attempts at jokes. You really don't need to read the text, he usually only has 1-2 test questions from the book. As long as you pay attention and really understand the material, this class is very easy.

Pros: Good professor. lecture slides are detailed and almost all of his questions are direct definitions off of the slides. So if you go to his lectures and make flashcards, you are most definite to 4.0 it!
Cons: Lectures are long! I suggest starting early in the year with all the material you have to study for the upcoming exams so you don't have a backlog. Also since he only has 2 midterms and a final, you want to get the points.

N.B.: Start on your experiments AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE!; you DO NOT want to be stuck writing a 14- page paper on a topic he approves of, till the end of the semester!
