For those of you giving this professor a terrible rating, did you even study? You might want to think about this very hard and when you do, you will realize that you deserved the grade that you received. I 4 pointed this class and I truly deserved it. I studied over 5 hours for each quiz that was on Friday and I studied over 15 hours for an exam.

For new students taking this course or about to take this course, it really is not as bad as people make it out to be. Reading the book is all you need to do. To study for quizzes and exams, you need to read each chapter and do practice problems. This will guarantee you a 4 point. For the first exam, I got 100%, second exam 80% and the final, 89%. For the quizzes(she takes the best 8 out of 10) I got 6 tens and 2 eights and for each excel/LONCAPA/attendance points, I received 100%.

The professor is very very nice and helpful. I went up to the front of the lecture hall after class to ask her a few questions and she was always very nice to me. All the SAs are very courteous and helpful as well. I really enjoyed taking this class because I learned many helpful things for my future. Working my butt off in this course after getting a 3 point in ACC 201 really helped me accomplish my goal of getting into the Accounting school. I hope all of you future students do well.

Remember: STUDY/READ, and go to the helproom for excels(guaranteed 100%). That's really all of the advice you will need.

First of all, I got a 4.0 in this class and I only needed 75% on the final to get the 4.0 overall. I usually give a prof what I got in the class on allmsu.com too. However, no matter how generous I try to be, 1.0 is the highest rating I can give Dr.Kattelus. The reason I don't give her 0.0 is because as a person, she is very nice and care about her students. But whether she is capable of teaching is a different story. What you see on the weekly quizzes or exams are not very relevant to what she teaches in lectures. Just going over the lecture slides will give you 0.0 on the qizzes and you really have to read the textbook. And what I mean by reading is not just skimming through a chapter, but to take notes throughly as you read the textbook. You may want to go over the notes you have taken until you understand every detail that is from each chapter. That will enable you to answer all the conceptual questions on each quiz or exam. Unfortunately, however, there will be more calculation problems on the tests than the conceptual ones. For those calculation questions, you really have to use every resources possible (ex. chapter problems on the textbook, online problems, etc) and understand the concepts. Luckly, I had some friends who could give me the quizzes from previous years and without those, I don't know if I could 4.0 in this class.

This class was too time-consuming for a 3-credit, 200-level class. In addition to the exams and weekly quizzes, there were weekly LON-CAPA problem sets, Excel Projects every two weeks, and i-clicker problems in every class. You need above 90% on the i-clicker problems overall to get 20/20 points. Also, there were 6 Excel assignments which took some students a couple hours to complete. And only the top 10% of the students in your recitation sessions (on every Friday) can get 10/10. Most people got 9/10 and even if you get 10 on one assignment, you probably will not get another 10 because TAs have to allocate those 10s to other students. For this reason, it is impossible to get 50 out of the possible 50 points on Excel overall. On each assignment, I did my best and I was one of the few students to get two 10s (the rest were 9s). But that still made my Excel grade 47/50. So if there were 40 students in a recitation session and even if 5 of them made a perfect Excel document, one of them has to get 9 for no reason. Dr. Kattelus has said that fairness is a vital part of accounting procedure, but is this grading system really......"fair"?

I 4.0ed overall in this class only because my friends have helped me. I am still a 3.95 sophomore student, but if I didn't ask for anyone's help, this could be my first 3.0 or less.

Dr. Kattelus is not a very good teacher at all. She has never had courses in education and it shows through her teaching. She does seem like a nice person, however, she does not know how to properly prepare her class for her exams. She does not go over any material in class that is anywhere near as difficult as the exams. Everyone thought are class was going to be curved due to the fact that the exam averages were 69, 66 and 71, and there was--a whopping 2%.

To do the best you can in this class: get tutored (you will get full points on your homework), read the book and attempt the practice problems at the end of each chapter.

This was a terrible class by all means and I am thrilled to have it over with.

Unfortunately, if you're a business major or trying to get into Broad you really have no choice in taking this class with Sue (unless you take it somewhere else). It is the WORST class I have taken at MSU. I did fine in ACC 201 and did horrible in this class. I don't know how anyone gave her a 4.0. I have no doubt that she knows the material but can't communicate it to save her life. I went to her office hours once, she kicked me out and told me to talk to the TA's in the help room. It kills me to think that my tuition or tax dollars go to paying her salary. Supposedly the class has gotten better since she started, but it was still HORRIBLE!

Don't listen to the two fucks below me. First of all while some ratings can be attributed to bad grades, most of the kids in the class got a good grade; the class average was an 81%, a lot better than the 201 average last semester. But, don't let that fool you Dr. B dwarfs this cunt in teaching ability. Now moving on to my next point, the DISorganized, waste of my motherfucking time 50 minute time frame that has been given the foolish title of "class". For 6 weeks I wrote down the time that Sue wasted on each class, keep in mind that I was conservative with my estimates. Beginning of class - 1min. Talking about excel projects which she had already made an informational video on - 1min. (note: I realize that this was not an everyclass occurence, but we met 30 times during the semester, had 6 excel projects and wasted 5min. talking about each of them, hence the overall average of 1min. per class). Talking about shit we're going to do the NEXT class - 1min. iClicker questions - 7min. 30sec. (about 3 questions per class at 2min and 30sec) Ending class early - 5min. This brings the grand total to 15min. 30sec. (30%) of her wasting time during our very short "class". Let's now focus on the other 34min. and 30sec. where she was supposedly "teaching". Let me first say that I don't doubt Sue is intelligent, but she doesn't have the slightest fucking clue on how to teach. She couldn't even field questions during class because she had no idea how to answer them! The slides were only helpful because they contained iClicker questions that were used on exams and quizzes, other than that they were pretty fucking useless. The demonstration problems on them showed no work, just the answer, thanks bitch. And to the people who said, "But she's a really great person!", She may be, I mean I fucking doubt it seriously, but I don't care if she was the Virgin Mary, she is supposed to and is paid to be a fucking educator, which she fails miserably at. Sue needs to take a page out of some other professor's books at MSU and donate her salary back to the University because sure as hell does not deserve it.

In sum, Sue sucks big dick at teaching. The class is not that bad though, if you read the chapters and look over the iClickers you're guarnateed at least a 3.0. I'll end with one parting thought; does anybody in the business college read the fucking student reviews??? Apparently not because this fuck is still employed and continues to embarass the Broad School and the University as a whole.

I just have to say I'm feeling a little better than more people thinks this woman sucks. This whole semester has been torture for me. I loved ACC 201, and was exciting for this class until she started teaching. The second half of the semester I just don't even go to class anymore. I use the online learning center from the textbook. My tuition shouldn't money shouldn't be going to this professor; it should be going to the authors of the book.

She never teaches the concepts. Only tells us how to review/study and what to look over. I wouldn't be this far in school if I didn't know how to study.

She enourages using the textbook's website, so for the 2nd test, I studied for a week straight, going through every chapter online and using every resource they had online. Sure enough, the exam was nothing like the questions and problems I studied. Class average on that exam was a 58%. Shouldn't that tell her something about her teaching??

Also, unorganized with the course...doesn't utilize the Iclicker questions in an efficient way... uses another professor's notes (which still don't help anyway)..

Oh, and I dont' know about the other TA's, but mine sucked. She didn't help me learn anything else. Basically just administered quizzes and flirted with students. These TAs need some Bokemeier training, because his TA's were extremely prepared compared to what I have this semester.

Basically, everything that's been previously posted is completely true. So, be prepared if you have to take this course!

I wanna start by saying that I'm not a hater. I don't hate people w/o any reason.

My overall gpa is 3.9x and I've got 4.0 in every single business core class that i've taken at MSU. I was an aspiring CPA at the beginning of this semester, but I started hating accounting by taking this class. This is the worst class that i've taken so far at MSU.

As an international student, I paid about $2500 for this class, which isn't worth the money at all. I should have taken 202 class somewhere else. LCC could have been a better choice. Iclicker required is not even part of the grade. I think it was about $45. Definitely a waste of money. We are not experimental mice. All she does in the class is writing DM, DL, and MOH on the side of her slides which are straight from the publishere's website or somehing. Oh! Yeah! I forgot to mention meaningless arrows she draws everyday. Oopsy! We all know what DM, DL, and MOH are.

Come on!! I'm not in middle school. We are COLLEGE STUDENTS.

The materials in the lectures do not have relevance to the quizes or exams.

You will have to read the text book at least twice not to miss her stupid conceptual questions.

The average for the 2nd exam was about 58.

I think I'm still gonna get 4.0 if there is a curve, but I cannot stop thinking that this class sucks a big time of my international balls.

Reading and studying on your own instead of sitting in her lecture can get you a better grade.

Fuck ACC. I stopped thinking of being a cpa agent.

She is a complete dumbass. I took her Spring Semester '09 and her class single-handedly almost made it so I did not get into the business college. DO NOT TAKE HER!! At first it is easy, but then it gets a little harder and the problem is that Sue cannot teach.

1. I-clicker points count for like 5% of your grade and you have to get 90% of the points for a 4.0. What???? I-clickers are supposed to help you learn the material, but i guess she expected us to already know them and get 90%

2. Quizes on Friday were dumb. Plain and simple. The things she teaches werent on there.

3. She actually does not know the material

a. One day in class she didnt have her notes and while working out a problem said, "I dont have my notes here, can you guys help me out with this one. Seriously."

b. There was a questions with production of a company and the question was how many machines are need to make XXX amount of items. The follow up question was "how many machines would you need to make YYY items." The choices for answers were "True" or "False"............

4. Didn't command respect. Let students walk alll over her. People would get up with 10 min left and just leave and she quit. Never said sit down or anything. She was always talked over. When it came to filling out her evaulations, about 60% of my class just got up and left.

Everyone dislikes her, she cannot teach, and the material is difficult when a PAID teacher cannot help you learn it.

Horrible professor. The only reason I gave rher a .5 was because there are a ridiculous amount of points, and an extra credit assignment. She knows absolutely nothing about accounting, her slides basically outline the book chapters. She spends thirty minutes of the class outlining what we are supposed to talk about, and then actually talks about the topics for a few minutes, after that she spends time on iclicker questions that you basically have to guess at because she never taught you how to do the problems in the first place. She is completely incompetent. The class is fairly easy if you read the book, the excel problems are a bitch, but you can get full points on them fairly easily. Her tas know more about accounting then she does, I find it hard to believe that she actually worked in the field of accounting. The first two tests are pretty easy if you study and do the book problems on the website, because half of the questions on the test are the exact same problems. Dont ask her a question, she always says "Im actually not taking questions right now" acting like she is better than you, but the real reason is because she doesnt know how to answer the question. There are often mistakes on tests, and exams have spelling errors and look like they could have been worded by a five year old child who just learned English. I ended up getting a 4.0 in the class, but its really horrible.

For all you people who say Sue is the worst Prof you ever had, consider yourselves lucky. You have either had really good teachers, thus making her bad in comparison, or else you're really stupid, and blame it on her. The material isn't hard if you're halfway smart, and Sue is helpful if you talk to her.

To the person below me, you are so right. These people are fucking whiners like I've never seen!!! How could there be so many bad reviews for a teacher who is pretty good? Look she's no superstar, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with her.

One more thing for you whiners: if this class was really that bad for you, then you are in for a tough surprise if you are going into accounting. It doesn't get much easier than this class, and there are teachers who are WAY worse. I guess with it being a 200 level intro class, you are all still awaiting the experience of the upper level professors, who the university doesn't care as much about, when it comes to their popularity, because by the time you get closer to graduating, you're not going to withdraw and go somewhere else. Let me tell you though, that if they took these upper levels professors and had them teach intro classes, then a lot more people would be leaving the university because of it. You whiners in this post, have a lot to learn.

I gave her a 2 because that's the average of what I thought of the class (4), and what I thought of her as a professor (0). I love the class and have learned a lot of useful information that I'm sure I will see again on the job. After saying that, I learned none of said information from Sue. Basically I go to class for the 3-4 iclicker questions and exert most of my effort on the crossword so I can pay as little attention to her as possible. She's not a bad person she just has no idea how to teach and tends to make the material about 1000% harder than it needs to be. I have recitation at 1:50 on fridays and I just wake up at about 10, read, do the recitation problems, and some review and get perfect scores on most quizzes. Prepare to teach yourself most of the material and hope you have a good TA. I would defiantly recommend using the help room for the excel problems because her instructions usually are very very very very obscure and unclear. All that being said, its not a terrible class, it just requires a lot of work and self-motivation. To get a 3.5-4.0 READ THE BOOK, DO THE REVIEW PROBLEMS BEFORE RECITATION, READ THE BOOK, READ THE BOOK READ THE BOOK, AND FINALLY READ THE BOOK!!!!!!

there is a quiz or exam every single friday. there are homework questions on lon-capa due every single thursday. there was supposed to be an excel problem due every single friday but she was too disorganized to get that going so we only had 6 throughout the semester. she is a horrible teacher. the only way to try and boost your grade is to go to class and do the iclicker questions. they are easy points. ge bai was a pretty good TA she was an easy grader on the excel problems that take 3 hours and are impossible. you have to use excel 2007 or you have to go to a comuter lab which is just more of a pain in the ass. you HAVE to buy the book because you have to read all of the chapters yourself and teach yourself the material. i have never had this much work for one class in the 3 years ive been at msu. its bull because its only a 3 credit class and accounting isnt even my major so i could care less. the only good thing about her is that there was an extra credit excel problem so you can earn 10 pts extra out of the 500 from the course. take this course at LCC during the semester and you will have a MUCH better grade and you might actually learn something.

I don't really rate profs that much because most of the stuff about them has already been said. But I need to take time to say that Sue Kattelus is an absolute embarrassment to Michigan State University. Completely pointless lectures, just reads off her notes that were prepared by a different Eastern Michigan teacher (where she came from), and from the slides that the textbook website prepares. She doesn't teach anything. The only way to learn the material is to try to wade your way through the textbook and learn from there, which is difficult to do (that's why we have professors!!!). She has weekly quizzes, and weekly homework in which you have to fill in all these boxes on a website which takes an unnecessarily long time. Her exams are 20 impossible questions, even if you know the material down to a T you will be fortunate to walk away with an 80%. She takes attendance and uses the i-clicker, but neither count to your grade.

I feel like the University needs to step in and just give everyone a pass/fail grade and admit they made a horrible mistake in hiring this lady from Eastern Michigan, and damned if she ever teaches a class here again.

She is terrible. She reads straight off her slides, and refers to the book's website and pretty much uses other people's material to teach the class, which brings up questions of her own knowledge, compounded by the fact that she often mispronounces words that a doctorate-level professor shouldn't, the most maddening being hundred (she says hun-derd). She made the class buy a brand-new book and use the book's online homework resource, and claimed that it was more effective for learning, when you really just need to take a look at the homework in the book, understand how it goes, and then just adjust on the quizzes for the different given numbers. The TA's have often had to stop quizzes to fix major confusing problems that she has had in writing the quizzes. She required an i-clicker, but didn't know how to work it for the first few weeks, and then she got a hold of the idea, but still writes poor/confusing questions and gives them before she has taught the material. Very poor professor in a class that is a little challenging, but just needs strong guidance from the professor. A complete change from Dr. B from ACC 201.

If you have an opportunity to take this class with another teacher, then do so! this lady is ridiculous. Beware of the final!!!!! I can't stress that enough. I had a 3.5 going into the final and studied quite a bit for it, but there were questions on things that had never been discussed at all. hell, one of the questions was just a statement with 4 completely different answers after it, but you didn't know what she was trying to ask for. I wound up getting a 14 out of 30 on the final and 2.5d the class. i was one the first people done with the exam and i handed mine in after about an hour and fifteen. So be prepared, I'm not sure how, but be prepared. Out of the 5 or so classes i attended, only for a bout 5 minutes total did I learn anything useful, and that is giving her the benefit of the doubt. 30 minutes or so of each class is devoted to clicker questions, that she herself barely knows how to answer. You should definitely go to the recitations, as to that and the book is the only place where you might learn something from. Do not take this class with Sue! for your own good.

First off, I rarely rate teachers because I feel with a bit of effort even a poorly taught class is very manageable. I was very wrong about that. The way this woman teaches is honestly just sad. I could take slides, questions, and examples from the book myself and teach at the same level she teaches at. Did I mention that her slides and examples don't prepare you for the tests in any way? I mean in comparison with the rest of the class I am not doing too badly at all, however, when your hardest class is ACC 202 when your an Applied Engineering major is garbage. I know this class is historical a more difficult class than 201 is, but honestly, should the average be a 68 percent after two exams with only the final and a quiz left? To me that is a load of garbage. If you can wait until this woman is fired or gets some sort of epiphany. Her teaching methods are seriously flawed. I mean, fill in the blank, what are we 6 years old and learning to read? We are going out into the real world in a couple of years. How about someone talks to us like we're adults!
