VERY HARD COURSE!!! But Rashad is the best teacher to have because he gives you great examples, he's not boring, and he is always available for help if you set up an appointment.

He is very enthusiastic. Loves what he is doing. I really enjoyed having him as a professor. Homework online sucks, but all the CEM classes have it.

Pros: Enthusiastic, Good lecturer, does demonstrations, explains stuff well.
Rashad was a great professor. I had him a few years ago, I'm not sure if he stills teaches the course or not. I liked this teaching style. He always engaged the class despite the number of students in the class. He didn't rush through anything, and wasn't ever really boring at any point. The material itself is boring, but he teaches it in a way that doesn't bore you to sleep--he is not monotone by any stretch.

The OWLs were a pain. I spent hours on end trying to get them done before Saturdays at 8am. Several Friday nights were ruined because of them! I don't think that reflects Rashad though--those dates and workload are given to all CEM 141 students regardless of the professor they have. Some CEM 141 higher-up guy named Steve Poulios or something sets up the OWLs I think.

Overall, great professor. Exams were tough for me (chemistry is/was not my forte), but looking at old exams (purchasable at bookstore) is invaluable for getting to know the testing style. I wouldn't spend $ on the book.

Recitation really depends on who you get. Some make review sheets, others do not and it's open Q&A. But again, doesn't reflect Rashad himself so it's a matter of chance you get a good TA.

I wouldn't take this class if a) you don't like chemistry, and b) you don't need it to get your degree.

Good Luck.

I totally despised this class, but Rashad was awesome and was very helpful. He is always willing to help his students with questions and when he drops hints on material in class MAKE SURE YOU KNOW IT! There's a shit ton of material to learn in this class which makes it so difficult to break down and study, so this is VERY helpful. Also, make sure you go to his and Hunter's reviews for the exams.. NOT the LRC reviews. I went to the LRC review for the first exam and the TAs had no idea what the hell they were doing. Oh, and Rashad actually keeps you awake in his class. He's very enthusiastic and always cracks jokes. Hunter is good too and knows his stuff very well, but he will honestly put you right to sleep. Good luck.. this class is a bitch!

Rashad is a very nice guy and is passionate about teaching chemistry. He is very smart and does not rush through material; he takes his time teaching & sometimes runs a few minutes over, but trust me - IT'S WORTH IT. The exams are difficult since there is no partial credit & it's all multiple choice (at LEAST A - E, sometimes it's A - J!) I suggest picking up a past exam solution book; it will help IMMENSELY! Rashad and Hunter also hold review sessions before each exam, which is very helpful. He is a great guy, funny, and tries to make chemistry as interesting as humanly possible.

Rashad is a great guy! I skipped a lecture to go see my girlfriend in Chicago and asked him if he could give me a personal lecture on that day's material in his office and he gladly did it. He cracks jokes on some things that might make your mother wonder but that's really the funny stuff ;) On top of the great personality, he really is a good professor with some brains as well. The class is a bitch, not gonna lie, but if you have Rashad you will smile. He is from Detroit, balding, and has dreadlocks - think of that look in your head. Just think Bob Marley haha he's great!!!

Great teacher! I stopped into the other teachers class, LaDuca, like twice because i couldnt make my section and Rashaad is waaaaaaaaaay better. Like by a million. The course is extremely difficult, but Rashad does seem to make it a little less hard by breaking things down. I dont know if this can be used as a statistic or a rare case but I got a 3.5 being in class. (I will admit I aced the final, the tests during the year were shaky), but I think he was awesome. Even if u dont start out with him, at least try his lecture once so u can see for yourself.

Rashad is a straight up G! he is very enthustiastic about chemistry, has a great sense of humor and always makes you feel involved in his lectures by calling for volunteers and he did really cool expiriments at the end of class. Although I did terrible in the class since the exams were hard as shit, is still give Rashad props for making chemistry seem so fun and interesting every morning.

GO TO ALL YOUR RECITATIONS AND DO ALL THE OWLS!! I failed every exam and still passed the class with a 1.0 simply from doing the hw and attedning recitations.

Rashad is awesome. He explains the material in such a great way that you can understand and keeps the class upbeat. I had this class at 9:10 and most days had no problem paying attention. I just wished i could have had him again for cem 142 because he is so much easier to understand than hunter. he will lecture the entire time but who cares when it comes to the exams you are going to know the material.

This guy's a boss. Even if you don't schedule his lecture, still go to it because Pollock is boring as shit and treats the class like we're all in middle school. He's really nice and very helpful if you have questions. If you miss a lecture and go to his office hours he will literally go over all the material you missed. Chemistry dept tries to make this class a pain in the ass but Rashad helps a lot.

Rashad is such a cool guy! He seemed a little reluctant at first, but he follows the lecture notes well and gives an easy to follow summary.Although, sometimes the lecture can get a bit boring, he tries to be as 'cool' as possible. He has sweet dreds and always tries to throw in a cool demonstration and cracks some pretty funny jokes.

He is a real laid back guy, good for chem 141.

really great teacher, even at 9 am. He really cares that you learn how to do the problems as well as understanding the concepts. He is a fun guy too, jokes around a lot and makes chemistry interesting.

be warned, the exams are very hard. I worked my butt off and kept my eyes open for tricky questions (theres always at least one) and got the most rewarding 4.0 I've ever gotten.

Great!!! Rashad is hilarious and down to earth. He definitely knows his Chemistry, but he presents it in a way that is easy to understand and not boring. He does some pretty cool demonstrations (although his luck with getting them to work isn't the best haha). The course is extremely hard and you have to work hard, but out of all the professors, I still think Rashad is the best.

I had LaDuca and thought he was a pretty good teacher, although I did have some trouble understanding the material sometimes. Then one day I missed my 3:00 class and decided to go to the 4:10 to make up for it. I heard Rashad teach and after that my mind was set. I went to the 4:10 the rest of the semester. He's really good at explaining difficult concepts in simple terms.

Rashad is not going to become an MSU professor next year as he is moving to Georgia to get married, but I feel I must talk about his performance. He is an excellent professor. Whenever you go to his office hours, he is always willing to help. You can never blame him for the exams b/c if u don't understand it, it's ur fault. HE IS THE MAN!

Rashad is the best for 141 and 142. I've been to other lectures. He goes much slower than Dr. Hunter and doesn't assume you already know everything. If you already know the material, you might find it slow and boring, but if you need to learn the material and learn it well Rashad is your man! He's a lot of fun and a great prof!

He is a great professor. He follows the lecture notes and makes it easy to understand. He also breaks down the ideas and puts them interms that everyone can understand. He seems like he genuinly wants everyone to to well in this course. I have gone to a few other professors lectures of this class. but by far Rashad is the best.

I loved Rashad. He is very passionate about teaching, very knowledgeable, and knows when he starts to lose people during lectures. I was sick last semester, and he was willing to give me a couple personal lectures in order to catch me up for the exam. I failed the class, but if I take it again here, I'll take Rashad.

Do not take this class with anyone BUT Rashad. He is so cool and such a genuine guy. I spent half the semester in Hunter's class and did pretty poorly. When I went to Rashad's class my grade improved dramatically. He makes chem interesting and fun. I seriously wish he taught every class I take, he's that cool.
