Dr. Oneal has a vested interest in your education. He is the chairman of the electronic media program so he has high expectations for his students. He will do everything he can to help you through his course. He presents the material in an effective way and he knows a lot about this field. He offers extra credit if you don't miss any of his classes but if you miss more than three classes he starts to deduct points, so I would show up. It's an interesting course and is taught very well.
Exams: He grades fairly but does not curve exams. You will also have a series of quizzes over what he covers THAT DAY in lecture. He only keeps the ten best quiz scores to count towards your final grade.
Homework: None. There are some out of class extra credit opportunities though.
Textbook: It is a MUST for reviewing before exams.

He really just talks about radio, but when the tests come you better know about internet too!
I wish he would overlook his love for radio and actually go more in-depth with other stuff too!
Cons:
Have to read the book
cumulative tests

dr O'neal seems very intimidating at first and you'll prolly think you are in for a rough semester, but let me tell you, you will learn A LOT!! Especially in his honor course, you will be expected to do your best and he will treat you like an employee as far as your work is concerned. However, if you study right and actually care, you'll see that he really wants you to be prepared and do great in the industry some day. take advantage of having this guy, he can take you places. You won't regret taking Dr O'neal he's demanding, but funny and he has a lot of experience so keep your ears open for some great stories.
Exams: BE PREPARED!! Dr. O'Neal will expect your best, and you'd better give it or plan to not do well in this class. Tests are comprehensive, which seems like a bummer at first, but when you get to the final and need those extra points to get an A, you'll love that some of the same questions are on every exam.
Homework: One project where you have to write a paper and give a presentation on the topic of your choice. Also helped on Close-up which was super cool and great experience.
Textbook: It was an okay book, i'd say you could get by without it. I just used it to review for the tests. has pretty good field of info though, i'd at least check it out.

Pros: he is responsible for the mobile media (2 million dollar bus) bus on campus
Don't really need the book (though he says you do)
Cons: doesn't put notes online
put notes on overhead & moves so quick
can be a ass at times
won't email you grades, you have to go to office
Test/notes are all his own, nothing from book really!
Dr. Oneal is like the chairmen or something close to that, so he always sees himself as correct. Don't get me wrong he may be a nice guy, but I will NEVER take him again! He takes attendance at EVERY class, and I do not know why. We have 3 test (1st is 100, 2nd 120, and 3rd 140 questions)... basically don't take him. He gave us extra credit which was to watch tv 3 hours straight and write each commercial & etc. He rambles soooo quick and once you finally decide to answer a question, he'll shoot it down. He constantly talks about when he taught at Univ. of Arkansas- Fayetteville, so be prepared to sleep! The 2nd & 3rd test contain stuff from each previous test, they're quite hard everyone in my class basically failed... He knows he is a hard professor too....
AVOID ONEAL!

Dr. Oneal was a very nice man to the guest speakers that came to our class like Chris Clark (very cool!) but always seemed in a bad mood and negative toward our class. He got on to us for not speaking up in class but no one ever wanted to because he would shoot down your answer as soon as you said anything. He's definitely intimidating. The tests are also pretty hard and they are cumulative. I had him for honors which is a really small class so maybe he would be better in a larger class.
Exams: The tests are HARD!!!! Read the book or otherwise you won't get the few short answer questions at the end.
Homework: No homework but you did have to come three nights outside of class to work on Close Up which was pointless because it was during a very busy week for me and all I did was come and sit. But you have to go because he will ask you to write a reaction paper about it, and he takes attendance.

Pros: gives a notetaking guide that has all the information you need in it
all info in notetaking guide is the information that is on the tests
no homework
awesome, easy to understand
Cons: his tests are difficult - half multiple choice half essay
he says he doesn't try to trick you on his test questions, but that's BS.
all of his tests are comprehensive
I absolutely LOVED taking Dr. Oneal's media law class. He has a great teaching technique and uses great examples and analogies to explain cases and precedents. His tests are kind of hard, but he gives points for attendance, and there are other assignments that allow you to make up for it. He also curves the class at the end of the semester. If I had to take this class again, I would definitely take it with Oneal.

He was a good professor and was willing to go in-depth about a subject if you didn't understand. The material is just very hard to comprehend but otherwise this was a good class.
Exams: If you take this class, make sure to read his lecture notes! That's where you'll miss a lot of questions if you don't read the lecture notes. Also watch out for the essay questions; they need to be very specific.
Homework: There were just a couple of papers due and some opportunities for extra credit.

Pros: Kept the classes entertaining and very willing to help you. Knows his material.
Cons: Tests can be a bit rough. But just pay attention, dont miss, and take great notes.
The extra credit is worthless don't do it. I did 7 extra credit assignments and it didn't move me from an 89 to a 90? Other than that I loved the class and will be taking Dr. Oneal again if I have the chance. If you don't show up regularly you WILL fail. Don't miss a class, he will jump your grade up big time at the end!

Pros: Only homework is to read and do optional extra credit projects
Cons: Class can get a bit boring
This is a pretty easy class-show up, take notes, take quizzes, take tests. You've got to show up though to do well.
Dr. Oneal puts the notes on the projector for you to copy down. He says tests are composed of 80% of content from lectures and 20% from the book, but it's more like 95% from the lectures and 5% from the book, which is a good thing because all you pretty much have to do is memorize the notes and you'll do fine since all of the tests are multiple choice. I never read or even bought the book and still got an A in the class just by studying over the notes. The next class after test day, he goes over the entire test so you can see which questions you missed.
There are pop quizzes that he gives at the end of lectures. My advice is to quickly read over all of the content you covered for that day right when he announces a pop quiz (it helps out a lot on the quizzes, which count for your participation grade).
He also gives extra credit opportunities. 20 points if you have perfect attendance or 10 points if you only miss one day. There are also occasional speakers on campus that you can go to and write a one to two page reaction paper (really easy). However, these only count for half of a quiz grade (2.5 points). There is also a project that he assigns that varies from one semester to another worth around 25 points.
Dr. Oneal could come off as rude sometimes, but he's actually a pretty nice guy and I would be happy to take another one of his classes. Easy class if you attend every day and pay attention.

Oneal is one of those professors that actually cares that you get a quality education. He cares about his students and on occasion showed tough love (the first test was much harder than any of us expected but in the end we learned a lot more). He made lecture interesting and I never really faded off into la-la-land. Oneal has also done his share beyond the classroom, so he knows what he talking about. I would suggest taking him for sure.
Exams: The tests were one of the few grades you had in the class, and there was only two tests and the final. Each test was over notes (90%) and the book (10%). Only the final was comprehensive.
Homework: We did two projects. One was only a group project and a perfect score was given to you if you just showed up. The other was a research paper and presentation about anything you wanted that interested you in a certain field of study within Electronic Media.
Textbook: I bought the textbook, but I must say that you can pass this class with an A if you never even look at it.

Dr. Oneal is really cool. He has a dry wit and subtle sense of humor that I found hilarious. Don't be afraid to laugh if you find something funny. Most people didn't laugh because they didn't understand when he was telling a joke among the mountains of information we were covering.
Exams: Tests weren't hard if you studied. I made B's on the test, but because of my high grades on projects and extra credit, I received an A.
Homework: Two projects: one individual and one group. Both topics are of your choice, but you must submit your ideas a few weeks in advance. Try not to be too brood with your project topics.
Textbook: We're supposed to read the textbook, but I rarely used it. I studied with it for one test because I missed a couple of days of notes. However, if you pay attention and take good notes, you can use those to study from.

Dr.Oneal is a really laid-back, straightforward teacher. He doesn't try to trick students with odd-wording on test questions or anything like that. His dry humor keeps the class entertaining. He's always telling stories that relate to what we're learning and help you remember the information. I took the Honors section b/c I wanted a smaller class aize, but I worried that the class would be difficult. If you just come to Dr. Oneal's class and pay attention, you should have no trouble making a B.
Homework: One pretty easy research project. We picked a topic about something we're interested in.
Textbook: You don't need to read it, although he says he expects you to. There are only a few questions each test from the book that weren't covered in class, but if you just skimmed through the book you'd probably get those questions right.

Oneal is awesome, very fair, funny, keeps your attention, is willing to go above and beyond most help given from professors, and students,... a refreshing change, a teacher that wants you to do well, not trick you.:) Awesome, it's a tough class, but he's the best to take the class with.
Exams: Come to class, take notes, and pay attention, with a minimal effort to read every once in a while and you will do well.
Homework: one paper, easy and straight forward
Textbook: a couple of test questions are from the book so ultimately it is optional, but you do better having at least skimmed over the material

Dr. Oneal is an interesting professor. I did not particularly care for his way of lecturing. He sometimes did lectures on the spur and really did not hold my attention. He talked a lot about his own experiences. I did not find the text helpful in studying because we were mainly tested on his ramblings. The course itself is quite interesting and I think I could have done much better if I had taken it with someone else.
Exams: The tests were cumulative in nature. The first test was 100 items, the second 120 and the third was 140.
Textbook: The text is informative and is good overall.

He has lived a lot and can relate to a lot of the material. He has a story for just about everything. He goes off on random war tangents, but most of the people in the class don't mind. He's a great story teller and the stories are USUALLY relevant.
Exams: Study what he tells you to and know everything he gives you in your notes and you'll be fine.
Homework: one presentation and one paper
Textbook: He requires a book and a notetaking guide. The notetaking guide is a basic outline of all the notes he gives and is supplemented by the book. They come in very handy around test time.

Dr. Oneal is a pretty good professor. He tells really corny jokes sometimes, but he usually keeps your attention. The material in the course is really pretty boring. It is all about the history of radio and television...blah blah blah. There are 3 tests in the course. The first one has 100 questions, the second one has 120, and the third one has 140. They're multiple choice and comprehensive. It takes some studying, but you will carry something out of the class. I recommend taking Dr. Oneal.

Exams: Alot of the information is from the previous tests. The first has 100, the second has 120, and the third has 140. You do the math. Anyway, he practically writes out the notes for you so it's easy to study. You can do ok by just using yoru notes but read because you'll do REAL well. Also, be THERE.... just by being present every day in class you can get TONS of bonus points at the end. That's why I got an A.
