I really enjoyed this teacher. I thought she did a great job of explaining the material. A lot of people complained about her not covering some material effectively, but she told us repeatedly to read the book. She even told us not to read the whole chapters just the sections about what we went over in class. The final is optional to replace your lowest grade. I thought this class was really easy compared to the other Bio classes I have taken. And I'm not one of those students who makes A's in every class. I did really well in this class and it even pulled my lab grade up to an A. She has been the best Bio teacher I have had at MSU

I could NOT stand Dr. Langlais. Her lectures were straight from the book and would make sense in class, but when it came to studying for the tests, they were difficult to understand. The notes would be extremely easy, but the tests were extremely difficult. She would constantly repeat herself. For example, one day she said "The phospholipid bilayer has 2 layers of phospholipids since it is a bilayer. Bi means two, that means two layers. The head is hydrophilic, and the tail is hydrophobic. This means the head likes water since philic means likes and hydro means water. The tail does not like water since it is hydrophobic which says it does not like water since phobic means fear of and hydro means water. So we have the phospholipids in a bilayer membrane which means we have the phospholipids with their hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails in 2 layers since it is a bilayer." She constantly talks like this. When you email her to ask a question, she gives you the shortest, bluntest, and most useless answer. She finishes with saying to look in your book for the rest. She is not a high caliber teacher, and I would NOT recommend her to anyone!

Cons: BLAND. ANNOYING. MONOTONE.
She is terrible. She is very bland, and reads straight from the powerpoint. There is no way of her knowing if you are grasping the content or not, and she is very nonchalant. Office hours aren't very flexible. SHE IS TERRIBLE. I WOULD ADVISE TAKING SOMEONE ELSE. Carly does not try to work with students that are having a hard time in the class. Overall, she's the worst science teacher I have ever had.

She teaches conflicting material between the book, her notes, and the test. She doesn't post notes or give back test so you must go to class. On every test so far there has been at least 2 questions that she took off because most of the class missed it. She doesn't proof read her test so there are mistakes.

This woman is probably the biggest idiot I've ever met in my life. She rushes through and makes sure she gets out of lab in 25 min, usually covering 35 slides. She doesn't know what she's talking about. She reads you the slides, if you ask her to explain something she says she doesn't know and bumbles about like an idiot. She can't tell you what any tests are actually supposed to look like. I'm honestly not sure how she ever got her phd.

Pros: Not too hard but not overly easy
Cons: The lab- much more work and studying to do for the lab than for the lecture
Dr. Langlais (Commings since she got married not long ago) is a nice, funny, and a genuine professor, and I enjoyed her class. The worst part of Microbiology was the lab. You have to make sure that you get and A's and B's on all of the quizzes and the practicals to actually have a chance of getting an A on the whole thing. Make sure you study A LOT for the lab. The final's optional in the lecture.

Pros: There is no pros about this class...except the lab...the lab was easy.
Cons: Homework sucked! She read straight off the board so if you can imagine a 6 year old could have taught the class. The exams are departmental so this means the things she skipped over are still on the test. So, if you are willing to bust ass to make a B....take her.

Pros: A very good teacher! I learned a lot and enjoyed going to the class. She test only on the material given to you during class on the powerpoints.
Cons: The speed of the class in overwhelming at times but if you go to class every time the class meets you will be fine. Sometimes the test questions are a little wordy and hard to follow.

Pros: Langlais (Cummings now) is a great teacher. She has really dry humor and a lot of passion for Micro. She's never mean or demeaning and gives students a chance to speak up in class.
Cons: The tests are pretty tough and lab is, too. But the material is pretty interesting.
I made a C in this course.

Pros: Knows her stuff.
Cons: Some subjects were hazy, but with help from the book, they were cleared up.
She is hard, but she definitely wants you to do well. You can tell she is very enthusiastic about the subject matter and truly knows her stuff. If you have to take microbiology, take her.

I didn't like her at all, she threw lots of things into a Powerpoint, went very fast and we were expected to copy down all her notes, but she wouldn't post them online. Had to buy a clicker, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK.

Pros: Powerpoints online
Cons: Bad public speaker
Nitpicky
Her mom was an English teacher so make sure your grammar is correct. Also, don't just study the powerpoints, they are more of an overview of what you should study then the actual material.

She doesn't put her notes online, and goes through notes way too fast. Didn't enjoy the way she taught the class. However if you do have to take the class make sure you go to class and ask questions if you don't understand.
