Mahapatra does a very poor job of communicating to his students in a way that is easy to follow. He writes with colors that are difficult to see and is very scattered across the board. If you get Mahapatra as your prof be prepared to do a lot of studying on your own time.

Prof. Mahapatra is a very smart man, and with that being said, I do not believe is an effective teacher. His lectures and problems he works through on the board are very scattered and hard to follow. One of his worst qualities is that when he asks if anyone doesn't understand something, he then only asks " why don't understand it", instead of explaining it to them so that they do. He also works way ahead of schedule so that you are learning stuff that is going to be two test from then so you forget half the stuff you learned for the next test. Oh, and if you want to see him out of class, then good luck. He planned his office hours when our whole cluster had our math class.

Pros: He knows science...
Cons: However, he's not good at teaching it. He'll explain something on the board, teaching it in a way that seems best to him. In the meantime, none of the students have any clue what he's talking about. If someone tries to ask for him to elaborate or slow down, he'll completely ignore it. He's not at TAMU to teach, just to use the technology the campus has for his personal research.

Awful professor. If you get Mahapatra, get the hell out of that class as fast as possible. I don't think I've ever met a man that could be so degrading and egomaniacal as Prof Mahapatra. Most of his lectures consisted of speeches about his dark matter research followed by incoherent calculations that make absolutely no sense.

Cons: All year he said he would curve and don't worry about your grade and then on the last day he said he was going to make the class average a 65, but ended up making it a 60.
