CHEM 101 - FUND OF CHEMISTRY I
Stone was a very enthusiastic. He knew the material and was always throwing out random facts. I think he was a good prof even though his tests were hard. He did NOT assign OWLS.

He is a knowledgeable professor, and he knows what he's doing, but he does not know how to present and teach the material. He literally gives you a set of slides online, and then goes through them word for word in class, and solves the problems on the slides very quickly, before you can fully grasp the concepts. The problems presented on the test are also much harder than those given in class.

Teaching style is very laid back, but he presents the topics well. Moves through the material fast. Exams are very difficult compared to the example problems worked in class.

He is a wonderful professor. He is always extremely excited about the subject matter, and he does not like to waste his time teaching things that won't matter.

Pros: No homework, no quizzes, no attendance taken.
Cons: Only tests count towards grade and they are difficult.
I took Stone Fall of 2010 at 8am, probably my biggest mistake for me as a first year freshman. I went to class maybe 5 times other then the tests and when I did go I had a tendency to pass out in the middle of lecture and wake up when the next class started to file in. I ended up with a B in the class though because I discovered A+ tutoring. GO THERE IF YOU HAVE STONE. They were my life saver. I wish I would have discovered them before the last two exams, which I made easy A's on. When you go to class he tends to speed through problems and go directly off the powerpoint. He seems like a really nice guy and does curve the tests, but his class is boring. I definitely recommend him over other CHEM teachers though because he doesn't have OWLs which will be the death of you. They take atleast 5 hours to complete and if you are like me and wait till the last minute that doesn't work out..

Pros: You don't have to go to class, it's a waste of time. He just talks and talks but really doesn't help you any for the exams. He curves a ton because his exams are so hard. He doesn't give homework (or OWLS) which is probably the best part.
Cons: His exams are extremely hard. You have to go to A+ or some type of tutoring because Stone himself will not benefit you. He's cocky and thinks he's funny but he's not.
GO TO TUTORING not class. & he wears a hawaiian shirt every single day be prepared. I only recommend him because no homework, don't have to go to class, and he curves. But he IS a hard prof.

Pros: Stone gives all the powerpoints and readings ahead of time. There are 5 tests to give you a meter of how you're progressing in the class. He sets the grades to a scale to help you out. He doesn't use OWLs but that's not always a good thing. The homework is suggested and never due.
Cons: The tests are very hard. You can tell he understands it but it doesn't always fall the same with the student. If you don't get ahead you will possibly fall behind. The final is comprehensive of all 4 tests. Homework is suggested and never due.

Pros: Everything comes from his Powerpoints
Cons: He always goes beyond what we need to know and can become confusing.
His tests are very hard, but once you learn how to study for them they are a lot easier. Don't focus on the work he gives you in the books. Always study the powerpoints first. The tests seem really hard when you take them, but he grades on a huge curve. He does not take attendance, and unless he is doing example in class, it is almost pointless to go. Overall good class.

Pros: Dr. Stone's course is a good course to take in preparation for future chemistry courses. He is interested in the topic and it is fun to listen to him when he gives his stories.
Cons: I did not like when he got off of the topic...he did this a lot. I also thought that in order to understand the information, I had to read a good amount because sometimes he is too smart to understand.

Pros: Most of his tests are vocabulary. Going to A+ isn't gonna help much. You memorize his slides and solve the problems on Mastering Chemistry, you should make an A
Cons: He doesn't have any homework or quizes or anything. Tests are the only way to bring your grades up. But he does have 5 tests including the final, which is quite helpful

Pros: He is ridiculously smart and really knows his stuff.
Cons: Can be hard to follow. Watch out for his multiple choice on exams, they are tough, you really have to know the concepts backward and forward.
Stone is a good professor but I would not take him unless you are a chemistry major or plan on taking organic chemistry later.
