MGMT 209 - BUSINESS GOVT & SOCIETY
Swim's class is HARD, but you can't deny that he is a great teacher and a great guy as well. There's really no alternative to taking this class if you're a business major or minor, so just be ready to study and go to class!

BUSINESS GOVT & SOCIETY
Swim's class is HARD, but you can't deny that he is a great teacher and a great guy as well. There's really no alternative to taking this class if you're a business major or minor, so just be ready to study and go to class!

Swim knows the material, but it can sometimes be hard to tell because he isn't the best communicator. He's a nice guy and makes the class laugh a lot, but the material can be dry. The book is a necessity and I would suggest reading the chapters and doing the study guide. And doing the study guide again after that... not a bad idea. This class is hard and you have to study weekly if you want to do well on the exams.

He knows his stuff. Hard exams. To get an A or B takes a LOT of studying. Meticulous exams. Imagine a lawyer trying to trick you on a test, that's him.

Pros: Every time class ended
Cons: The material for the class itself is not that hard but the way Swim writes his tests almost seems like he's trying to fail the class. All his exams are 55 MC with answers A-E.
Choices D and E are often a combination of A,B,C which makes narrowing down your choices very hard.

Very personable guy. Doesn't accurately describe what exactly is going to be on tests. Don't be mislead by the simplicity of material; encyclopedic knowledge is required of it to do well on exams. If presented the chance, don't buy the book. Just buy the study guide.

Pros: The subject is pretty interesting even if Swim sucks
Cons: Swim is a cocky douche and his tests are way too specific. You have to memorize so many small, unimportant details that you end up not learning as much.
Swim is a dumb hoe.

Pros: Great lecturer. I loved going to class to hear him speak. The material was pretty interesting to me, so I enjoyed this class. Plus he curves quite a bit because he is aware that his exams usually destroy everyone
Cons: Everything you have probably already heard about Swim is true - the exams are incredibly hard. He'll give you scenarios, and you will have to discern what laws apply, etc. He has a lot of "A and B but not C" type questions, so you can't simply memorize the material, you need to be able to apply it to situations.
I really liked this class. Be prepared to study quite a bit, but Swim is a great guy who cares about his students and community.

Pros: He doesn't take attendance, and he's a good lecturer. He wrote the textbook, so all you have to do is follow along.
Cons: He makes it apparent that he purposely tries to screw over students with difficult exam questions (a, b, c, a and b but not c, a b and c, none of the above) and tries to scare people out of using outside tutoring. VERY reading-intensive class.
You have to take Swim at one point or another. My only suggestion is reading the chapters before class, or else the lectures sound like Greek.

GO TO CLASS. He follows the outline provided with the book for the most part but make sure you make extra comments in the margins to help study. His exams are hard and meant to trick you. He hates the tutoring sessions, but I found them helpful just to hear the material again and practice with their sample questions to get a better grasp on the material. Read the text and make sure you understand it. Studying the night before will not cut it in this class so put in the work to do well!

Pros: His lectures can be pretty interesting and he definitely knows what he's talking about.
Cons: I would study at least 20 hours for each of his tests. I basically had all the information memorized, yet still had trouble making B's. His tests are tricky, meticulous, and HARD. You definitely need to buy the 4.0 packets to help you study for the tests. The average grade on his final was a 53. I made a low B in his class even though I put way too much of my time into his class.

Pros: Great prof! lectures can basically be read strait from the book.
Cons: Be careful not to skip class all the time because some test material is out of lecture, just current event stuff.
Hands down, very well prepared prof, tests are fair and exams cover the material strait out of the textbook.

Cons: Tests are tricky, but if you go to class it shouldn't be a problem. A lot of the quesitons are from straight lecture, so going to class is important
