Professor Tucker makes this class pretty difficult. He uses two textbooks and the test questions come from the lecture and both textbooks. You really have to read the textbook thoroughly to do well on the tests. But he has a really dry sense of humor which makes coming to class kind of fun. Still though, for a class that seemingly would be easy he makes it pretty difficult just from the tests; especially since the only grades come from three tests and no final, so if you don't do well there are no chances to bring your grades up.

Class uses two different books, both of which you MUST read through all the way. Tests are very difficult if you haven't read. Tests consist of 3 portions; one over lectures in class, and one section per book. Therefore two thirds of the test is not covered in class making hard to get a B without reading text, and nearly impossible to get an A. Total grade comes entirely from the three tests, no final.
Bottom Line: If you get stuck in this class, be prepared to read

Pros: His three tests (which were the only grades in the class) came straight from a universal poli sci book, his own book, or lecture. And it was written on the test where the question comes from.
Has powerpoint notes in a bound notebook for sell in the MSC
Only work in the class was reading the two books before lecture
Cons: His book was VERY boring. Just a bunch of statistical comparisons.
His lecture itself can be very boring.
In the first few weeks he speaks very abstractly and hardly makes any sense.

Pros: You don't actually have to go to class to do well in the class, he wrote the textbook and the lecture is only part of the book, I rarely went and got a B. If you want an A you should go though.
Cons: HE IS BORING AND DRY, he thinks hes funny, hes not. I fell to sleep most of the time. His tests are half lecture and half textbook, but sometimes the same question would be in both sections and have different answers, which was dumb.
Take a different professor, I was a polisci major and this made me want to change majors.

His lectures are always very interesting and I had no trouble staying focused on him throughout a whole class period. He is witty and has a great sense of humor, I enjoyed coming to his class. However, his tests are extremely hard. You really have to know exactly what he talks about, and then some. Tests include powerpoint notes that he does in class, and readings from the textbook (never used in class). Definitely not an easy "A" like some POLS207 professors.

Pros: Knows what he is talking about, overall good professor.
His textbook was not that expensive
Cons: Wrote his own textbook
Its a one time use textbook, meaning there is no selling it back.
His class is pre-curved. 100-84.5 is an A 84-74.5 is a B.
4.0 and Go offers a class usually the night before the test. Very helpful pretty much consolidates the book into a couple pages for you to study over.

Cons: He is very sarcastic, which makes it hard to take notes because you can't tell what to write down. He never makes it clear what is, and isn't true.
I would not recommend a class with him. His lectures are super boring and the only things I really learned in that class, I learned from the text.

Pros: A lot of people say that they dislike his class, but if you go to class every day and pay attention as well as do all the reading before the test, it is very possible to make an A in the class. I actually found his lectures interesting and found his sarcasm amusing.

Pros: no class work at ALL
Cons: INCREDIBLY boring. he is a strange professor, and there is a lot of very vague material on the test. I hated this class. I love school, and usually find something interesting about each professor I have, but Harvey Tucker was terrible. poor guy

Pros: Knowledgeable of the material.
Cons: Boring, his own book had a ton of mistakes in it, basically put the book on powerpoint and read from it. He wrote the book, so he knows the ins and outs of it, every fact imaginable could show up on the test.
