Prof. Carello is by far the best professor I have had at UConn. She is brilliant and really knows how to break down the difficult material in her class in a way that?â?ó?ó?ÇÜ?¼?ó?Ç??ós full of enthusiasm and very understandable. She integrates all the topics she covers thoroughly and uses awesome animated slides to depict her objectives. Also, she has no qualms about standing on chairs/desks/etc or frantically waving her arms around or making sound effects in demonstration to make her point more vivid.
GO TO CLASS, print the slides, bring them with you AND take good notes. it really doesn?â?ó?ó?ÇÜ?¼?ó?Ç??ót require an ungodly amount of effort, just an interest in the material and a willingness to actively listen in class, and put a little time into workin through the material. She is always available and makes extra office hours for her students. She encourages students to come to these office hours, and I encourage you to as well. She's a valuable tool to the course, take advantage of her offers!
This class combines biological components of human systems with logical reasoning to establish how we interpret the world around us. The exams are very fair. Not an "easy A" per say, but an incredibly do-able one if you put in the attention. If this sounds interesting, or you want to learn a ton take this class with Prof. Carello. I highly recommend it

Prof. Carello really is a great professor, don't let the other posts fool you. Yes, her class is challenging. Yes, you actually have to do some work. But it's not a difficult subject matter. She explains everything in lecture -- don't waste your time writing the whole person -- just listen to her talk and actually understand the concepts. Sit towards the front - just show up and listen (no notes, no books) - read the book a few days before the exam - go to the review session (which she has for every exam!) - then take the practice tests. Don't even bother printing out the notes, just understand the material - if you don't...go see her. This is college kids, get use to having to read material. Although it is sometimes boring and she's not hilarious (she's there to teach - not to entertain) - I would definitely recommend Prof. Carello. Study 3 hours for each exam 3 days before and you'll get an A easily.

It is true that Prof. Carrello expects a lot from her classes when it comes to what they are required to know for exams. However, she more then makes up for that expectation through making the exams nearly 100% identical to her lectures. By simply sitting in on her classes one gets a better feel for the concept she is teaching and therefore will do well on the exam. If you don't go to her classes, however, you're in trouble for the exams! She's also VERY good about helping the student understand the concepts, no matter how stupid the question. If you are required to take a psychology 132 class, and a lot of people are, there are very few teachers better then Prof. Carello!

Cons: Needs to involve students in class discussions
Shes one of the best professors ive had. anyone that complains shes boring is taking the wrong class. everyone wants to complain about how hard the tests are. i admit that some of the answers on her 50 multiple choice type exams sound alike...but welcome to college, a place where you might actually have to use your head rather than memorizing facts for a couple hours...idiots. you want straight lecture and countless facts, take a history class. getting students to use information together in order to understand ideas on their own, is what great teachers do...so grow up and take a step into the real world.

Confusing or hard to understand
Overly difficult tests or assignments
Although Claudia herself isn't too bad, the tests in this class were pretty tough..What's tricky is that the practice tests aren't too bad and then when you look at the test half of the stuff looks pretty foreign. The way she approached the subject was personally difficult for me to understand. It's helpful that she puts the notes online but it wasn't really enough for someone who lacks a scientific mind. Most people should be able to squeak by in this class as long as they attend the lab section, do the homework, study the notes, and do as much extra credit psych experiments as possible. don't take her if you don't have to, but I hear she's better than Turvey...

Lectures are well organized, puts her notes online and uses diagrams and drawings to make them easier to understand This is a good class if you are a visual person. She talks kinda fast so it takes a while to get use to. The class isn't hard but its not easy either, you definately have to study and attend lectures to get a good grade. She tries to be funny but she really isn't so some people might find it boring. (I saw a whole bunch of people fall asleep in that class.) The lab section can be very difficult if you get a bad TA like I had. But the overall class is good.

I feel like I learn something every time I got to lecture. Carello usually says the same thing 3 different ways and it helps me to understand the point and remember it in the future. Her exams come straight from her lectures. I fell asleep during one or two, and I am sure that is why I got a couple wrong on the exam. Some of her questions are worded pretty confusingly, but overall I pulled low to middle A's on the exams. As a freshman, this is what I expected in a college course, but overall I'm pretty sure that there are easier classes. As far as learning goes, take this class... if you are looking for a 4.0 with little effort, then look elsewhere.

Best professors I've ever had!
Cons: Overly difficult tests or assignments
Everything you need to study for tests is online, and if you were to study as if you were taking the essay you should have no problem getting a B. Only problem I have is I had mono for the 2nd exam and as opposed to taking the multiple choice test the class took I get to take an essay version which will be much harder.

Everyone sits here complaining that her tests are hard. Those people are the ones that dont goto class and expect to do well by reading her powerpoint presentations that are posted online. Her tests only cover the lecture notes (powerpoint). If you goto every class and pay attention, little studying is required to get at least a B on the exam. If you dont usually goto class, then dont take psych with Carello. If you do goto class all the time, then the class should be a breeze.

Has the hardest tests ever and the book is of little value. I went to about 90 percent of the classes and paid attention and still don't really understand how everything fits together. She is a bright lady and gives you the slides ahead of time but is confusing as far as what aspects of the course fit with what theme. If you want to be confused take this class.

I can see why people would not like this professor's classes, because she has high expectations of what you are required to remember for exams... However, the information she gives is very interesting, and she doesn't expect you to know more than she says in class. If you go everyday, you will do well. Additionally, she is able to answer any question you may have from lectures. Once you understand the material, everything will make sense and you will be more interested in the class. I recommend her, as she is quite knowledgeable about psychology - specifically, sensation and perception.

I had prof. Carello a few years ago and was so sad to see her low grade! She's one of the best teachers I've ever had. Yes, she's very hard. Yes, the material is hard and she expects you to learn it ALL... but isn't that the point of college? Don't take her class if you want an easy A... DO take it if you're looking to learn a lot.

she gives the best notes i've ever had, and puts up so many study guides on webct. she realizes that her tests are difficult and often brags about it, but gives enough extra help that you should be able to survive. horrible sense of humor, often makes strange noises during lecture. overall, excellent teacher, worth taking the class if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

Her exams are unfairly hard due to the fact that she sugar coats her notes to see all bright and cheer and clear her tests are the complete oppisite they are full of new vocabulary and terms that you must learn on your own. She is very enthusatic when teaching but she is boring at some times and I had to actually write her notes instead of printing them out to stay alert in class.

She needs to learn to stick to the point and to talk less about her lve at home, yes that's right, her CAT. I looked forward to this class but it ended up sucking. I did manage a B- when I expected worse so I shouldn't complain, but this lady is unlike anyone you'll ever meet... beware...

This class was so hard. I worked really hard and squeaked out a B-. Carello's tests are too difficult, no matter how much I felt I new the material I couldn't seem to do as well as I wanted. Then again the material is difficult. If you take this class with her my suggestion would be to do as much of the extra credit that you can, it really helps your grade.

This lady is nuts and could easily make a psych major want to switch to another major. She takes intro to psych way too seriously..I went to ever class, every review session, did all the extra credits and still ended up with a B, im all for challenging your students but making an introduction course overly difficult is just unecessary. Her tests are nothing like her notes..if possible take this course with another teacher.
