CHEM 1212 - FRESHMAN CHEM II
Gen Chem II is definitely more difficult that Gen Chem I but if you attend lecture, do well on the homework, and maintain studying, you should do fine.
The final for this class is definitely harder than Gen Chem I's.
Pros: Atwood is probably the best lecturer you can take. He explains things slowly and consistently to make sure everyone who pays attention really understands. Helps prepare you for the tests.
Cons: Can be a jerk sometimes. Pop quizzes are difficult compared to other classes. My class was the unlucky one chosen to do the PBI2 crap. If possible, do NOT get into that class. PBI2, although it helps your grade, is a HUGE waste of time and usually the reports end up with one person doing the whole thing.

Test are kind of hard but if you get As on the homeworks, you should be able to just study those, the notes, and the practice test and you'll be fine. The final messes up most people's grades. My A went to a B+. Tests are on computer using JExam software. Final is paper and is a "standardized" test.

If you're going to pick a chemistry professor, Atwood is a good choice. He is clear and easy to follow. He can move quickly in the lecture, but he allows questions often and will take time to clear up issues.

Overall, I throughly enjoyed having Dr. Atwood. I think he gets a bad wrap from students who don't put in the appropriate amount of time outside of the classroom. You need to be prepared to study a decent amount of time in this course. Homework comes out every Wednesday and is due every Tuesday, don't procrastinate. Read your book. Bring your lecture outline to class. Refer to that supplement B.

Pros: Extra credit pop quizzes

He is on the board that makes the test for the final

Cons: He can be a dick sometimes
Try not to take the PBI2 class. The projects are easy but take a good amount of time to do outside of class. You also dont get to chose your groups so you can get stuck with a bad group. For test, study the practice test and you will do fine. The homework is pretty easy but sometimes you have to teach yourself how to do it. If you do the homework and study the practice test you will easily get an A in the class.

Pros: Atwood is definitely the best 1211/1212 teacher and he explains everything well. He gives you time in class to work problems on your own which really helps you learn the material.
Cons: Not really any
If you do the homework, pay attention, and study somewhat hard for the tests you should be able to pull out an A. A lot of people say it is really hard but they don't go to class and don't actually do all the homework. You get what you put in.

Pros: good teacher but does not solve problems at crucial times when students need it the most
Cons: kind of full of him self. if you ask a stupid question, he will insult you for it. personally he has not done that to me but i have observed it
out of all the chemistry professors he is the best. very good at explaining but have to deal with his ego.

CHEM 1211

Pros: Thoroughly knows the material and is usually pretty clear in his explanations. Pop quizzes given in class for extra credit. Holds help sessions that actually help. Always open to questions.
Cons: None really.
It's UGA's freshman chemistry, so it's going to be a difficult class. As long as you keep up with your work and study a decent amount, you will be fine. People say he is a jerk, but I have met him personally and he is very nice.

Pros: He is helpful and is clear in his discussion. He is also one of the better chemistry teachers.
Cons: He comes off a little jerkish, but it's just his personality.
Atwood is a good choice for a chemistry teacher. He is helpful, and the students in his class generally score the highest overall on chemistry tests.

CHEM 1212
FRESHMAN CHEM II
5*****
Pros: He is very thorough and knows his material. If you need help, the help sessions are a great way to communicate with the professor in a smaller setting.
Cons: The cons are with the course, not the professor. This class is just incredibly time consuming. There is a lot of material to grasp and it takes a great deal of dedication.
I chose to take Atwood for my first semester of chemistry and could not imagine having anyone else for 1212. He has been absolutely phenomenal. Class was interesting and helpful. He may come across as strict, but he offsets that by inserting stories and random facts that help the class to move faster. Considering he is the professor in charge of writing the exams, you can be sure you are prepared for each test.

CHEM 1212
FRESHMAN CHEM II

Pros: Probably the best 1211/1212 professor, most able to explain the material in an understandable manner. Tries his best to make sure all his students understand the material.
Cons: You have to work very hard if you want an A, but it's by no means impossible.
Since freshmen chem is standardized for all the professors, his workload and tests are exactly the same as the others. It doesnt really matter what proffesor you get for the class since all of them teach the exact same material. However, I would recommend Atwood over the others simply because he is the most capable at explaining the material and he wants to make sure the students in his class understand what he's teaching.

CHEM 1212
FRESHMAN CHEM II

Pros: He really knows a lot about chemistry. He is very helpful at times.
Cons: He has his bad days when is not very helpful at all. Instead he is an arrogant jerk.
The chemistry department has (in 2010-2011) a testing system called J Exam, so everyone's test is over the same material and is similar in format, so Attwood's tests aren't any different than other chemistry professors who use J exam. At times Attwood was a complete jerk and expected his students to know more than they did, but if you can deal with his abrasive personality he will do a good job at preparing you for tests.

Pros: I would say he is the best chem 1212 professor. He is very good at explaining it and makes you really think in class. He tries to teach you different shortcuts to save time and not do as much work. Going to class helps to get a general basis of material, but it's chemistry, so most learning is outside of class.
Cons: He hurries through his powerpoints sometimes which is annoying. When he gives us an example to work in class, sometimes he doesn't work the example out after and moves on to the next slide once he gets the answer from different students.

CHEM 1211
FRESHMAN CHEM I
5*****
Pros: Class is informational and kinda interesting if you have a knack for science.
Cons: Some people find it extremely hard.
The goal of this class is to weed out all the people who should not be science majors. Expect 30% of pre-vet students and 15% of pre-meds to change their major after the first test. This is a true college course--- the professor will not hold your hand, but will teach you how to learn the material you need too, Do the practice tests before the real ones too. Dr, Sumner is awesome!

CHEM 1212

Pros: Takes time for his students and is always at his office hours to help. He explains everything really well and often uses real life scenarios. If you work hard there is no reason not to get an A.
Cons: Is often rude and abrasive. If you ask for help and it is obvious you have not taken time to figure it out yourself he will not help you at all. The final is super hard but if you study a couple of weeks before it you can do well.
