Class was somewhat disorganized (we didn't really go chronologically) and it got a little hard to place events in a mental timeline. Tests are usually straightforward, with basic sections of multiple choice, true/false, short answer/essay, and matching. Some questions are tricky if you don't do the reading, and some aren't clearly worded. There are extra points built in though, so that helps to balance out anything you miss.

It is very important to attend class. The majority of the material on the tests comes from the lectures in class, with a minor about of material coming from the actual reading.

Pros: Class satisfied two requirements
Cons: Grade dependent on how lenient T.A. is
Lecture's have no powerpoint to accompany them
Workload too heavy for a 1000 level class
Too much reading
What a mistake taking this class. I know that I may of missed the easy T.A.'s because the Spring 2011 semester was 3.34 and the Fall 2011 was 3.04.
Even if we got the good T.A.'s, the class was NOT interesting at all. I attended every lecture of class which was required or you would be deducted "some kind of points" which was never explained in full detail. The readings took in between an hour to many hours every week just to take quizes that were nearly impossible. In between the mumbling of Bianchelli's lectures and my T.A.'s (Amy Skillicorn's) complaints of not reading the Odyssey and obsession of her underworld gingerbread house, my enjoyment of the class stopped the first day. The only reason why I didn't drop the class was because I didn't know how my T.A. was going to grade until the day after drop/add. (All I'm saying is if you get Amy Skillicorn for one be prepared because she grades essays on tests like a 4000-level English class instead of 1000-level and her weekly quizzes are nearly impossible.
If you get to get point in my review, you may say that I'm being a little harsh, indeed I am. I didn't even get a bad grade after being miserable for a full semester. I got a B+ out of this, but did I deserve it? Maybe, maybe not. But if I had the choice I would probably take this class with somebody else and WITHOUT breakouts if I could.

Pros: She's extremely enthusiastic about this course, making the lectures engaging. The class is fairly easy. The tests only require you study/read the basic material and memorize.
Cons: She has a BIT of an accent: while I could understand her easily, I knew there were a few students who could not.
We got off schedule from the syllabus near the end of the course which can be a bit frustrating if you missed a day.
This course requires attendance. If you miss too many days, you'll get a full mark down. It also requires an extensive amount of reading (although there's no other homework other than a 3-5 page paper project). The reading material isn't difficult to get through.

Pros: very nice, will help you if you go to office hours.
Cons: hardly "teaches" she explains how translations are structured more than anything.
A slight learning curve to understand her. You have 8 tests including the final which is really just the last test.
You have 8 tests including the final which is really just the last test. You have to do the homework to ace the tests and you have homework every day.

Pros: She is very helpful during office hours!
She will definitely prepare you for future latin classes.
Her class was hard at times but she is a good professor. She expects her students to keep up with their daily homework. She is a very helpful teacher and is even more helpful during her office hours.

A lot of students complained about her accent, but I could understand her fine. Just sit near the front if you don't understand her.
This course required a lot of work. There were tons of readings to be completed weekly with quizzes every breakout class. The quizzes could be tricky at times too because all the names in mythology are weird and sound the same.
The TAs grade fairly though & are always willing to help.
Bianchelli was a really good professor--very animated, passionate, and she knows her stuff.

Pros: The class is easy if you do the reading.
Cons: She has an accent. Some students had a hard time understanding, some did not. The breakout session can be worthless if your t.a. sucks.
Generally some reading but for the most part the stories are interesting. There is a quiz every friday in breakout but it is easy. The tests are based on the stories you read, the pictures in her powerpoints, and the stories in her lecture. They are not hard if you do the reading and listen in class.

She's a nice person and very passionate about teaching. She is very knowledgeable about Latin as well. Her accent makes it hard to understand what she says some of the time.
She's not very helpful when you ask questions in class and she expects you to to all of the book work all of the time. She doesn't give quizzes everyday only when she remember to. Grades the tests fairly hard not very lenient in grading translations.

Pros: She gets very excited during lectures, and it makes it more interesting. You do have to read a lot, but the test are easy if you do read. Her accent never bothered me, just makes her more authentic.
Cons: Confusing, Lots of reading, TA sucked.
I think it is because english isn't her first language, but she says things backwards sometimes, and will stop mid-sentence, and start another one. Its not too distracting.

Pros: She is very willing to work with you and loves teaching Latin. As long as you do the homework and study the night before the test, I don't know how you could not make an A.
Cons: She has a thick accent, so it can be hard to understand her at first. Also, there is a lot of homework that is daily, so you have to keep up.
