Make sure that you write very fast when taking notes. As soon as he is finished with a page, he erases it and continues forward. Don't ask him which structures, etc. you should know because he will always tell you it is your responsibility to know everything. My advice is attend class regularly because he gives you old test questions, especially during the break-out sessions.

Pros: There are no pros besides the curve at the end.
Cons: Tests are extremely detailed and super hard. As long as you are above average you will pass. I never got higher than a 75 on a test, failed the final, and I got an A in the class.
Brewer's voice is like Ben Stein's and he basically reads straight from the book. Extremely boring.

Pros: Notes and class are very structured and organized. Most of the material is from the book and if you take notes and study, you will know exactly what is on the test.
Cons: The sheer amount of material you need to know is staggering. Brewer is reluctant to answer questions. Teaching style is extremely dry.

Pros: Heavy curve at the end...even then you might not be lucky.
Cons: Think of every negative experience in every class that you've ever had and roll it into this one. Now add a useless sack of flesh- the professor.
Scored a 95 on the first test. Just memorize all your amino acids from the book. Memorizing old tests for this exam works. However it is not that effective for the rest of the tests. Book material is heavily used, and there is a plethora of information that you must go over, and truthfully it's near impossible to go over it all unless this is the only class you're taking and have all the free time in the world. Scored a 71 and a 56 on the next two tests. I have no idea what I made on the final, but I did end up with a B+ in the class, no thanks that senile old man. He's probably so cranky, because he hasn't been laid in the past 70 years.

Pros: Has a ton of old exams on his website which he picks questions directly from.
Cons: Not really sure what to study, lots of material on every test.
A lot of information is covered in the class and with Brewer, you aren't sure of what to focus on when studying. His review sessions are helpful as he gives you exam questions. Grades are based solely on class averages. Go to class, take notes, and memorize the old exams!

Pros: He does go over some test questions at the review sessions.
Cons: He doesn't really like interacting with students. He doesn't speak up sometimes, hard to hear. His tests are crazy, the hardest portion of the tests were the T/F questions.

Sometimes, there comes a point in your life where you just have to bite the bullet and take a really bad professor. Fortunately he only teaches half of the BCMB 3100 course and the other professor is good.

Pros: Gives great notes
Old tests (can be found online) are very helpful
Cons: Can be a bit cranky
A bit dry
I'm not sure why everyone complains about him. Yes, he can be a bit cranky at times, but it's often funny. My friends and I really enjoyed his tests. His notes, while often unreadable, line up really well with what he tests you on. His old tests (online and the one posted outside in the glass case) should help you get a minimum of 75 on the actual tests. Like most UGA science classes, you get what you put into the class. I'm pretty sure that the ones who gave him horrible reviews didn't put enough time into the class. The grades that I made on Brewer's tests pretty much saved me from the massacre that occurred in the 2nd half of the class.

Pros: If you find his test online, you'll be fine through the tests. He doesn't deviate AT ALL from the book. Read the book and you'll be fine.
Cons: He doesn't deviate from the book AT ALL. Makes you wonder why you even come to his class. Also, he moves really quickly, and uses the "Sticky Notes" function on his computer to write all of his notes. DON'T try to follow his drawings (structures) in class, you'll get confused really quickly. Honestly, the only reason I gave him two stars is because he curves really nicely at the end of the semester.

Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE!
Cons: Hand writes/draws lecture material on computer, then erases everything when going to next page rather than posting it. Makes you feel stupid whenever you ask a question and doesn't answer it (even though he always asks us if we have questions). When drawing molecules, draws them differently each time. Tells us to study specific stuff from lecture, then puts different material on exam.
Worst professor I've ever had. Avoid at all costs. If have to take him, get RedNotes from Baxter Street Book Store.

Pros: Curves grades a lot. 15% above the class average on any test is generally an A.
Cons: His handwriting is extremely difficult to read, and he can appear impersonable at times.
Overall, he's a good teacher to take. He curves a ton and although his teaching isn't the best, he tells you the exact material you need to know for the tests and his tests are very similar to his old tests which you can find online.

He is rude to students when they ask question, especially if he feels like the student should understand what he or she is asking about.

AWFUL. I've never had a worse professor--he's very rude, grumpy and seems to hate teaching but does it anyway so he can continue doing research for UGA. He gets annoyed when people don't ask questions but when they do, he makes them feel stupid for asking.
