Pros: The man is knowledgeable and he gives pop quizzes that are strictly extra credit. You do not need to go to class unless you want the extra credit.
Cons: The tests are impossible. You need old tests to even get a B in this class, and even then, you will not have all the test questions. The questions he asks are ridiculously hard and are stuff you do not even cover in class.

This is the worst teacher I have EVER had. He does not care about his students at all, in fact at the beginning of the semester he tells you if you ever have any issues to go to the TAs and not him because he is basically retired and doesn't want to deal with it. His tests are 40 questions each all multiple choice but are done completely on powerpoint and you are given 30 seconds to answer them, he does not go back and you have no opportunity to ask questions or even really think the answers out. The information could have been interesting if not for his monotoned voice and obvious disinterest in what was going on. This is the worst class I have ever been a part of and I would strongly recommend taking ANYONE but him.

Pros: He gives pop quizzes periodically throughout the semester, but they are only for extra credit. The test are all multiple choice and are straightforward. You can exempt the final if you get a certain number of pop quiz points and an A average on the tests. He has experience from private practice, so he tells interesting stories sometimes. The subject matter is very interesting if you like psych.
Cons: The test questions are given on a powerpoint and you have 30 seconds to bubble an answer. Some people didn't like that format, but it isn't bad at all if you are prepared.

Pros: Easy if you get the old tests

Can drop 2 of the 8 tests

Possible to exempt final
Cons: 8 Tests (8!!!!)

If you don't have the old tests and try to learn, it is impossible

Awful class

Calhoun even tells you the first day of class to find his old tests, you absolutely need them. If you have them, the tests are easy, but it's just annoying.

Pop quizzes that are bonus points.

You need an A average on the Tests and the pop quizzes to exempt the final.

Boring as anything.

Pros: Interesting material

Can exempt final if have an A
Cons: Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to exempt the final, you need to go to class to take the pop quizzes.

There's a test every 1 and a half to 2 weeks.
At the beginning, this course was really hard because I did not know to study the old tests. Definitely get the old tests--you can find them on koofers or on studyblue--if you want an A.

Pros: Old tests make this class a breeze and there is no attendance. I never went to class and took the final and still got an A.
Cons: He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Not to be confused with a bad course. The Course was easy but like I said he is the worst teacher. He doesn't care at all. He's tenured and you can tell.

Pros: Attendance is not required.
Cons: Even though I went to every class, read every chapter and studied the notes, it did not help come exam time.
I didn't start doing good until I got a hold of old exams...if you have the exams then you need not do anything else.

Pros: very informative course, all the material you need for the exams is provided, fast paced
Cons: reading intensive course, fast paced, no absentee make-ups for any quz or exam.
This is a very cut and dry course--you study all the material and you either understand it or you don't. There is no room for non-traditional students (if you are sick or have family matters to attend etc...)--if you don't show up for a quiz or an exam you dont get credit for them, and there are absolutely no make-ups for anything.

Pros: He gives a study guide/practice questions and they sometimes appear on the tests. Pop quizzes count towards extra credit so you benefit from attending class. Tests can be challenging unless you have older tests to look at.
Cons: Class is not very entertaining. There is a TON of reading material to keep up with and it is very detail oriented.Tests can be challenging unless you have older tests to look at.

Pros: easy A with old tests
Cons: didn't learn much so if thats a big concern of yours, don't take Calhoun unless you want to study the book AND the tests
if you don't have the old tests, don't take this class. i read the book and studied for the first test and made a B or C. for the others, i studied old tests and barely cracked the book and got a lot of As.

Pros: Material is really interesting and it's obvious Dr. Calhoun is interested in the materal he teaches.
Cons: A lot of reading. You need to read the textbook if you want to do well in the class.
Attend class. The pop quizzes help your grade dramatically in the end. I didn't have to take the final and got an automatic A because of the pop quiz points.

Pros: Posts notes and there are lots of chances the earn bonus points. Final exam can be exempted with a lot of effort. Old tests with help you out.
Cons: Exams are sometimes hard, with really in depth questions. He moves really fast, and he isn't very interesting.
We always got out of class 10 minutes earlier or more.

Pros: You can get extra credit by just coming to class. The material is very interesting.
Cons: A lot of reading, but the reading is interesting.
As long as you keep up with the reading, the class is very easy. The large amount of tests/ quizzes allow for a lot of points to be earned. Lots of extra credit opportunities.

Pros: His lectures are to the point
Cons: None of his test questions come from the lecture or the text. He gets them from old tests. It's crap.
Just study old tests and you'll do ok, but I would recommend getting a different teacher. I actually wanted to learn something. Not regurgitate something from an old test.

Pros: if you go to class, hell give you extra credit through easy pop quizzes. his test format is hard to get used to (the questions are on powerpoint slides that he only shows for 30 seconds), but they are not terribly difficult. also, he is very knowledgeable about the subject.
Cons: his class can be boring.

Cons: Kind of Boring

Tests are Tricky
Get old tests! They won't give you every questions, but they will help at least 85% of the time. Someone posted on here all of their exams and it helped me a lot, but I could have used a few more copies of different tests.

Pros: Good and interesting lecture. Explains concepts well.
Cons: Most people really hate the test format of a slideshow that has each question up for only 2 minutes, but he may have changed it since then

If you take practice exams (which are posted on Koofers) before you take the actual exams and you go to class to take the pop-quizzes (which count as bonus points) you should be able to receive an A in the class and not have to take the final exam!
