AMERICAN GOVERNMENT
5*****
Pros: She's really enthusiastic in lecture which keeps it interesting and goes into a lot of detail. The tests aren't very hard if you follow her study guides and usually had a bonus question or two from the text or a random fact she mentioned in lecture.
Cons: The tests sometimes will have short answer (like a sentence) questions or ask you to explain a concept in addition to multiple choice & true/false questions. The study guides also require a lot of reading from the book.
Definitely buy the book because you will need it.

Pros: Dr. Haynes is a hilarious person and she always makes lectures fun.

She drops hints on test questions if you attend class, because a lot of people skip.

She makes the material pretty easy to understand, and is a very friendly and flexible person if you need help with something.

Shes awesome.
Dr. Haynes is pretty much the best. End of story. Take this class. Do it. The breakout session assignments are easy, and the tests aren't bad. Do the study guides she gives you and you'll make an A.

Dr. Haynes is a great teacher! I had an awesome TA, Darien Dabney, which made the class. Dr. Haynes is super enthusiastic and funny. I highly recommend her!

Pros: Haynes is really funny but the class lectures get pretty boring if you're not into politics. She gives study guides for every test and they are VERY helpful. There are bonus questions on every test except the final exam. Every week you have to write a 2 page paper but they are easy and don't take long to write. As long as you do the study guides and the papers, you can get an A in the class.
Cons: Not many cons except the class is required and I hate politics so the class was pretty boring for me. She calls people out in class for talking or falling asleep or not paying attention but it's funny as long as it's not you she's calling out.
Best teacher for Polysci. Definitely recommend taking her class. It's pretty easy and if you like politics you'll like her class, otherwise it's just a required class you have to get through.

Pros: Fairly easy

Very, very nice

Optional final (B average)
Cons: Other than the breakout, it's all lecture
Professor Haynes is a great professor to take if you're a Political Science/International Affairs major. She relates the material to Political Science instead of making it completely government based. The homework is all in the breakout sessions - once a week, you have articles to read and you write a response to a question given beforehand. It's semi-formal; my TA didn't grade too hard. I got mostly 98s and up. As long as you read the article and write a semi-articulate response, it's an easy grade. I got a B with very, very little studying and missing 30% of the article responses because of absences.

Pros: Dr. Haynes is really enthusiastic and likes to crack jokes during lecture to keep it interesting. The tests are not difficult IF you do the study guides she posts on ELC. Attend class regularly because she will give "bonus question" answers to those present. One time we even got to sign in for extra points. The only "extra credit" given is the bonus questions on the tests. Also, attend the breakout because attendance is part of that grade. You have to write essays in the breakout but they aren't bad, and that's the only homework. I highly recommend Haynes as a teacher!
Cons: None. Except that the final is cumulative....that was a lot of information.

Pros: Really loves what she does.

Very nice, helpful, and easy to talk to.

Gives random extra credit.

No quizzes, so you don't have to go to lecture.
Cons: Breakout sessions are boring, but every POLS 1101 class has to do them.
She is such a wonderful teacher and I really have enjoyed her class. She makes lecture fun and interesting which helps when the topic is pretty bland. She gives extra credit randomly to people who go to lecture so it's smart to attend. I would definitely recommend her to anyone. She is by far the best political science professor!

Pros: Interesting lecturer, fun class. She is awesome.
Cons: The Maymester class moved quickly and and there was a lot of reading. Pop quizzes keep you from procrastinating. Tests are long and extensive but not bad when you read, go to class, and study.
This was probably one of my favorite classes I've ever had. Dr. Haynes is super nice and funny. She really knows how to take material and make you learn and think about it. I didn't miss a single class because I actually wanted to go for once.

Pros: Great teacher who really enjoys political science. Very excited for every class and makes lecture fun. Tests are pretty easy. No pop quizes so attendance is not really required plus the test are pretty much out of the book.
Cons: Makes people sit in the front of the class if they use laptops. Breakout session is ridiculously pointless and boring.
From what I've heard, probably one of the easiest, if not the easiest political science teachers.

Pros: Haynes is a very good professor. Her lectures are interesting and very informative. She gave extra credit/bonus questions on each of the exams, including the final. She will also answer any question you have, in case and outside of class.
Cons: Breakouts sometimes seemed to be pointless. But the reviews before exams were quite helpful.
Great professor! Would highly recommend, especially to those who aren't majoring in political science.

Pros: Amazing teacher! She knows the information very well and is hilarious. If you go to class it will really help you out because on days with low attendance she will give you hints about the test.
Cons: If you are not interested in american politics this class can be very boring. I also thought that the break out was annoying because it seemed pointless to me.
If you can get your hands on old tests this class will be a breeze!

Pros: very interesting lectures, helpful TA's, gives study guides before tests, powerpoints available online
Cons: breakout session writing assignments every week, challenging and in-depth tests
I loved Haynes. She was so funny and interesting in lecture, almost made Poli Sci fun. Tests are from lecture and a lot from the book. She goes over the majority of stuff in class and provides very thorough study guides for each test.

Very interested in the subject she teaches. Communicates well with students for a class that size. Break out sessions are a little annoying, but the weekly papers are only one to two pages and are very easy. Tests are not that difficult if you study both lecture notes and the textbook. Lecture attendance not required, she posts the notes online. Very energetic and actually quite funny. Enjoyable class.

Pros: She is an awesome professor. She is funny and she knows the material that she talks about. Going to class really helps come test time; however, attendance isn't mandatory.
Cons: There are breakout sessions and they are pretty boring (depending on your TA). Also, it is important to read the book in this class. Tests cover in class material and material from the book.

Pros: Super easy tests, Lecture is pleasant (drops hints at test questions), TA's work hard to prepare you for tests
Cons: Her lectures don't always match her powerpoints because she tends to ramble. Breakout requires a 2 page paper each week, but she frequently cancels assignments...
Dr. Haynes is ...bizarre, but she's very friendly and enthusiastic about what she teaches.

Pros: She's passionate about teaching, funny, and very involved with the class.

An easy class if you prepare for the tests. Although she doesn't take attendance for lectures, I really recommend going because on some test questions, you can only get the answer by going to class. Overall, a good class considering it's political science.

Pros: Gives tests questions in class when there is low attendance. The tests are not there to trick you, and if you read the book it is easy to make an A or high B. Puts all of the power points online.
Cons: Have to write essays for breakout class, but they are graded pretty easily. The chapters that are assigned to read are really long.

Pros: She loves her job, is a great lecturer, gets the class involved, and doesn't expect too much out of an intro class.
Cons: The material can be a little dry to some. Really not a lot of bad things about Dr. Haynes.
Take her. She's energetic and funny. She doesn't make the class too hard but she challenges you to earn your grade.

Pros: Good teacher; interesting; covers a lot of material and does it in an efficient way.
Cons: Research paper; tons of pop quizzes. You have to work or you will get a bad grade, but we all worked really, really hard because she did make it fun.
