This class is worth it! Good luck and study hard! But keep in mind how easy it is to pass (with at least a D) before you decide not to take it.
Pros:
You learn A LOT of useful information for the real world. Laplante is crazy smart and an entertaining lecturer.
Cons:
Hardest most stressful class I have taken. You can't slack off because the tests are crazy hard and long.

Pros: Best lecturer you'll ever take at UGA. Competitive grading makes the absolutely impossible tests fair. You'll learn more in this class than just about any other class at this university.
Cons: The tests are unbelievably difficult, not because the problems are that hard, but because you don't have enough time to finish. Oh, and there's a 50 question test on the syllabus...btw.
Don't take the easy way out with Pope, LaPlante might be the best professor at UGA.

Pros: You learn a lot
You learn a LOT
He will keep you awake
He will keep you entertained
Competitive grading
Cons: You will do a lot of work
You will do a LOT of work
He will call you out in class
You will not finish any of his tests
Competitive grading
1) Do not skip his class if at all possible. 2) Come to class as prepared as possible. 3) Study as hard as you can for his first test because no one else will and you can hopefully beat enough of them to cover you for test two. You will be destroyed by test two. It will wreck your grade in his class so do very well on test one. The final's not so bad if you studied all through the semester. 4) He will give answers to questions on his tests on days when few students show up. 5) Study well in advance, not the night before. You will not know it well enough by that point.

Pros: Best teacher I have ever had! He is BRILLIANT and makes class very entertaining. Gives a lot of "real world" examples and advice, so a really beneficial class regardless of your major.
The class is really, really hard, but exams are graded competitively so it makes even impossible exams fair.
TAKE THIS CLASS! super hard, but Laplante DEFINITELY makes it worth it!
Cons: You have to study for this class EVERYDAY, starting from day one or you will get behind, and its almost impossible to catch up once you get behind.
I would not suggest taking this class the same semester as Intro to Tax or Intermediate I (ACCT majors) because of the massive workload from all 3 of the classes.
If you can, take this class before you get in Terry (before you start your major classes)

Pros: This is the best class I've taken at UGA, hands down.
Dr. Laplante is an incredible lecturer and you will probably learn more from him than from any class at UGA. He makes finance, which can be boring to some, very interesting and relevant to your future.
Cons: While this is the best class I've taken at UGA, it's also the hardest and most work intensive I've ever had. Be prepared to work like you've never worked before to make a good grade.
It's not hard to walk out of this class with a C or a D to at least pass this class. The benefits of taking Laplante are worth it over anybody else teaching FINA 3000 in the department. The grades are curved based upon your performance against everyone else.
Take this class.

Pros: Best teacher I have had in college. He is extremely entertaining and will force you to learn ALL of the material if you want to do well.
Cons: If you aren't a finance major, don't care about retiring one day, are lazy, want to live off of social security one day then do not take this class. Now if you do want to be a better person then take this class.
This guy is the biggest boss EVER. Hands down my favorite teacher in Terry College and I have enjoyed this class immensely. If you want to do well be prepared to study for hours on end but if finance interest you then you will make the effort. Expect to study for 25-30 hours for a test if you want to score in the top 25%

Pros: Best teacher I've ever taken at UGA
Laplante knows his stuff and loves to teach
Passionate about his students
Interesting material
You learn a lot of useful information even if you're not a finance major
Competitive grading makes getting a good grade actually possible
Cons: So incredibly difficult
Had our second exam the tuesday after GA/FL (that sucked)
Had to dedicate a solid 4-5 days of my life studying before every exam
I left class completely overwhelmed a few times (he just knows SO MUCH)
Although this is the hardest class I've ever taken, it was the best one as well. LaPlante is an incredible teacher and I'm SO happy that I took him. Study hard!!

Pros: You will learn a ton. Laplante is the best teacher I have ever had or ever will have, no doubt. He wants to give you tools for the real world. Competitively graded exams.
Cons: MUST work hard and take it very seriously. You will not get a 100 on a test, sorry. Hard Exams.
If you are a Finance major, it is highly recommended that you take Laplante given the opportunity. Even though it is a hard class, its worth it. Attendance is not required but if you want to do well you don't have a choice but to go to class, he is a very fun person to listen to anyways.

Pros: Keeps you engaged, teaches well, truly wants you to succeed
Cons: Difficult tests with competitive grading
If you have the opportunity to take this man and you do not do it, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. This is the best teacher I have ever had dating back to kindergarden. I mean this guy seriously has a way of teaching that just makes things makes sense. He is incredibly passionate about what he does and this becomes obvious from the first word you hear him speak. His class is a challenge though. He grades competitively so you have to beat out other people in your class. His tests are very difficult and also very long. He makes them this way on purpose in order to make the competitive grading work more effectively. They are graded like the SAT, in that you are penalized for guessing a wrong answer as opposed to just leaving it blank, again this is to make the competitive grading fairer. Honestly you are going to have to work very hard in his class. But it is so rewarding because you really do learn. I do not care what your major is, take him. He will teach you so much that you will be able to use in the real world no matter what you end up doing for a living. I wish I could take him for every single class.

Pros: Fantastic Lectures
- He not only was very enthusiastic about the course material but would have "editorials" that were very interesting pertaining to real world events and how the material applies to real life.
-You can really learn a lot from Dr. Leplante.
-Also he holds a personal investing seminar once a semester and you NEED TO GO TO IT
Cons: Very tough class
- Competitive Grading so study you butt off if you want a good grade.
Leplante is the tougher of the two professors for FINA 3000. Here is how you can break it down. If you want a slightly easier prof, take Pope, but if you really want to learn and gain information that you can apply to the rest of your FINA classes and to life, take Leplante. Definitely go get to know him in office hours. He is very personable and is a great prof to know!

Pros: Hands down the smartest and best overall lecturer. He is brilliant as you can see in the other comments and he IS the harder of the 2 FINA professors but the life lessons you will learn from him will make everything worth it. And the competitive grading makes it so that your raw score has 0 effect on your grade. You can make a 20% on your tets but if EVERYONE else makes a 10, you are in line ot make a '99' in the class.
Cons: Extremely hard class. If you miss a day of class, you WILL make up that missing lecture in about a week or two of work. Missing 1 class could destroy any of the 3 test. Practice problem is the only way to prepare for the test and it is still impossible to prepare 100% for the test.

I learned more in this class than any other class at UGA
Competitive grading can work to your advantage if you study more than your peers - make sure to do practice problems!
Cons: Tests are difficult, they are given at night and usually take the whole time.
He is the best professor I have had at UGA and highly recommend his class. Attendance is not required, but you need to go to class in order to do well on tests. The book is not required either but you need the book to do well on tests, too. You won't pass the class if you try to cram for exams the night before.

Pros: Really good and clear teacher and wants everyone to understand the material.
Cons: Be ready to work your ass off. there are 10 pop quizzes and she will call you out if you look like you're not paying attention.
Tests are very hard but graded competitively. Keep up with the material and you will do fine but if you get behind in the class you will struggle and be lost in the lectures.

Cons: This class is arguably the most difficult in the accounting coursework.
Stay on top of it; do well on the quizzes. Study your ass off for the exams and don't be discouraged by low raw scores. It's all competitively graded, and since everyone does so bad, you'll turn out alright!

Cons: Lot of hours dedicated to this course. Good luck.
I slacked off for the first two exams and made between the 40-73 percentile of the class, but did work on the final and got 98 percentile. Saved my A since the final is worth ~48% of your grade.
