Dr. Nelson is a very interactive professor. He asks great class discussion question and is sincerely curious to to see what his students have to say. The exams have lots of material but they are fair. The best part is that if you are there for 4 out the 5 attendance quizzes, you get 5 points added to your overall average!

Pros: He makes lecture very interesting, and shows lots of videos in class. You get extra credit if you are there for 4 out of 5 attendance quizzes. It's a reading-intensive class, but enjoyable overall.
Cons: Nelson is not very approachable. TA's lead review sessions, have available office hours, and grade the tests. Hopefully you get good ones.

Pros: Very intelligent man

Very enthusiastic about anthropology

Gives random attendance quizzes that aren't graded on accuracy; you receive credit if you're there for them; be there for four out of five and you get five points on your total grade.

Makes a study guide for every test and final and there's review sessions
Cons: Lots of reading; but it's interesting

Lots of reading that is not in the textbook

In the fall semester we had a lot of guest lectures; they were all interesting but also all included on tests and we never went over the stuff in class

Absolutely wonderful class! Dr. Nelson is an intelligent man with lots of experience in his career. He is very nice and willing to meet during office hours. Also has a sense of humor, especially if the class is receptive to it. If you DO your readings, GO to the review sessions, and GO to class an A is easily attainable.

Pros: Lecture notes posted on eLC
Cons: Attendance pop quizzes, fairly difficult tests
He's an okay guy. Enthusiastic about anthropology, which makes the lectures a bit more interesting; he does, however, give attendance quizzes at random and his tests are fairly difficult. There is one homework assignment (2% of overall grade), and if you're there for all of the attendance quizzes, he adds 5% of your grade to the overall grade. Watch out for Test 2.

Pros: Easy

5 extra points for attendance added to final grade
Cons: Boring. Boring. Boring. You can't expect too much from a lecture hall that large though.
Just read the assignments, complete the study guide, and show up to class to make sure you get the attendance points (he gives 5 pop quizzes--must be there 4/5 quizzes to earn credit). Made high A's on the tests and didn't pay a lick of attention in class.

Pros: Half a letter grade extra credit for being in class for attendance quizzes

Dr. Nelson is a fun teacher that knows what he is talking about
Cons: Unless you have a particular interest in the subject, the curriculum is thoroughly boring and useless

Reading is necessary and class is mandatory if you want the extra credit
I would recommend this class to anyone looking to fill an elective requirement

Great and easy class! Yes you have to write like 3 papers but they are only a page long and are mostly opinion-based. Nothing formal.
