The class has two midterms that are difficult only because you only get an hour. There are three machine problems that you have to do out of class. You can do the MPs in groups of up to three people in any section. All of the lecture slides are available online.

Gambill is very enthusiastic. He is not the best at explaining things sometimes and it seems like he sometimes dumbs things down. Also, he combines his office hours between 101 and 105 so things can get confusing there and he doesn't have the time to sit down and help someone with a specific problem. The tests are not too difficult. Labs vary from really easy and short to long and monotonous. The lecture notes can help a little bit, but you can find all of the information online for free.

Pros: Never really went to class, but I studied a lot for the tests. Grading is decent. 3 mp's that are hard, but you get to work in groups, and get help. 2 midterms--first one is easy, second is difficult. Practice from old exams! There are a lot, but they do help. Final is cumulative and you really do need to know your stuff. Not incredibly difficult, but if you study hard, there are no surprises or tricks. All multiple choice. 3 extra credit quizzes help boot your grade too.
Cons: Lectures are boring, course packet was not very helpful. Labs and mps are more advanced and slightly irrelevant to lecture material.
Tends to be one of the harder 100 level classes, though no where as difficult as math and science classes like calc 2 or physics.

Not too bad of a class expect that although you could get by in the class with the lecture slides, the books are extremely helpful.
