CHEM 231 - Organic Chemistry I
sometimes the answers to the review questions are wrong leaving you a little unprepared for the tests/quizzes but if you know all the hw and pre quizzes you can excell in her class.

CHEM 231 - Organic Chemistry I
If you want her, you better work hard for it.
Pros: Good teacher, learn alot.
Cons: She goes WAY too fast. If you like slow paced, go somewhere else. Her tests are EXTREMELY hard. I studied for days and still failed. She complicates simple things sometimes.

CHEM 135
GEN CHEM FOR ENGINEERS

I thoroughly enjoyed having Dr. Dixon for this class. She made the material easy to understand and was always available you help you if you needed it. She gives you the grade that you earn. I absolutely hated chemistry before having Dr. Dixon for a professor. She really cares and does her absolute best to help you learn the material. It may seem like she asks for a lot but that's only because she gives so much to her students.

CHEM 135
GEN CHEM FOR ENGINEERS
3***
Pros: Cares about your grade and is a nice person. Very helpful if you go to her office hours, and knows a lot about her subject. You'll learn a lot about chemistry if you take her, but prepare to work your tail off and still get a C.
Cons: Flies through material; if you haven't taken a rigorous chemistry class before this (like AP Chem), prepare to struggle. Also, her tests are very difficult, and are sometimes too long to finish.
She's a good teacher, but very difficult to get high grades with.

CHEM 135
GEN CHEM FOR ENGINEERS
2**
Pros: She is an awesome teacher (see cons)

Office hours (all day every day)

Very nice to students

Friendly
Cons: *she is an awesome teacher if you ike working your butt off for a C or B. Her exams are very tough, with averages ranging from 50% to 70%. Students entering this class with very little to no chemistry background will get served!

Pros: She is awesome. Knows her stuff 100%
Cons: Tests are hard.
I'd say she's the best person to have, at least for an introductory chemistry course. She knows her stuff and she genuinely enjoys teaching. As long as you make the effort to reach out to her, she'll help you if/when you have trouble with the material.

Pros: Knows the material really well. Very prepared for class. Is actually pretty funny. If you need to take higher level chem I would recommend her class, she will make you learn it in more detail than most of the other profs. If you go in to her office she will love you & help you.
Cons: Sometimes doesn't get that she needs to explain things multiple ways so the wide variety of students have a chance of understanding. Can be nasty to TAs or students who aren't among her favored few. If chemistry is a weak point for you and you just need to take the class and get out then absolutely don't take Dixon. Everything about her teaching style is focused on the next course. If you didn't go in to her office hours early on and get to know her you may as well not bother.
As a person, she's probably fine. As a professor, I hated Dixon. However, I hate chem so I might just be biased.

CHEM 231
Organic Chemistry I

Pros: Great Lectures

Many opportunities to salvage your grade

Helpful office hours

Helpful class TAs
Cons: Heavy Course load
She is a great lecturer. You can never fall asleep or even get distracted in her class. She tries to help you understand the material from many angles. Although her class is difficult and the amount of materials she covers is probably twice as much as other orgo1 professors, she really helps you understand the material and prepares you well for orgo2 and your grad school exams. To do well, you need to study hard from the beginning and you can't slack, period, for that A. Go to her office hours if you have ANY questions and you should be fine in this class.

Pros: -organized lecture

-thorough and challenging content

-big curve
Cons: -high expectations

-moves very fast

-too much material

-long exams
Overall, a good teacher if you're passionate or good at chem. That wasn't the case for me and I was basically failing the class from the beginning, but if you keep up with the lecture notes and do her worksheets and understand class material, you shouldn't have major problems in this class.

Pros: Very intelligent teacher, makes herself available frequently for students, holds weekly review sessions
Cons: A LOT of work, teaches at a fast pace, teacher more material than other Orgo 1 teachers
If you have to take orgo 1 and 2 I would recommend her, she will prepare you. Do the work, don't get behind because everything builds throughout the entire semester. Go see her at office hours

Pros: She teaches it well

Offers more practice and help
Cons: She is a tough teacher

Expects much more than all other teacher
Dr. Dixon is a very good teacher, but she expects a lot out of her students. She wants everyone to learn in to do well later, so many people end up not doing well. It is a lot of work and very difficult. She offers help and assitance throughout the course.

Pros: Explains things very well. Pretty good notes. she doesn't do power points.
Cons: She goes really fast.
Dixon is an amazing teacher. But you HAVE to put a lot of time aside to work on orgo. It may be best to record her lecture and go over them. You would definitely miss something during class.

Cons: Content-wise -- very intensive course

Orgo is easy for those who like to solve puzzles. The general rule is that if you hate Gen Chem, you'll love Orgo and vice versa. Hope this helps.
