Dr. Jones knows her chemistry. Unfortunately, this didn't translate into being able to write a chemistry lab book. To make up for this, she does hold review sessions and posts a "blog" about each lab. Both are rather helpful in understanding each week's lab.

The labs were not difficult, however the lab reports were unnecessarily long and took way too much time. The midterm and final exams were impossible with the final exam average being an E. However she curves the class a ridiculous amount that getting A's and B's on all the labs and and E on the final, you could still get an A (she curves so that the highest grade in the class is a 100% and goes down from there basically giving over a 10% curve as her highest grade ever has been a 92.5%. It all depends on your T.A. too, if they know what they're talking about then lab shouldnt be too bad, but if they dont...

If you're in a good group then lab is okay yet tiring (3hrs). Post-lab questions are hard and you need to know a lot more than what is taught in lab to answer and get full credit;extra credit problems are available. 9% curve. If you need 1 pt to get the higher grade you will not get it.She knows a lot about chem, very smart. Has reviews for tests.

Cons: Hard material to process with little or no previous background, class does not follow lecture, syllabus quiz answers not on the syllabus

The questions she asks involve a lot of thinking and time and research outside of what you learn in lecture. It's a tough lab. She's also a little crazy...

You probably have to take it if you're reading this, but this class kind of sucks. My ratings pretty much reflect the TA I had, who couldn't speak English very well (I almost feel like she took points off my labs because she didn't understand what I had written), not Professor Jones - I only ever met her once in the first class. The labs, basically, are the most boring labs you could possibly do for each experiment (except the periodic trends one where calcium practically explodes when you put it in water) and the supplies are obnoxiously expensive. The labs are graded kind of hard because you don't really get partial credit for questions and if your data is wrong then your lab will be too. There is a mid term and final which are both moderately challenging but basically ask you to do the same kind of work as the labs. The upside for the class is that the labs are pretty relaxed and fairly sociable and never take the full three hours. The longest was around two, and the rest were no more than an hour and a half.

Pros: Great study material, interesting concerts and shows included in the curriculum. Easy grading on papers.
Cons: Terrible lecturer, reads directly from notes for the majority of the class. While basing a large part of her class around AVI samples and movies she appears to have no idea how to use these technologies.
This is a great class to take to expand your knowledge of music. However, it is not easy, and has an absurd amount of work associated with it. With several papers, weekly homework, and discussions sessions to lead, this class definitely takes up a lot of the time that could be spent on harder classes.

If your TA is good, you will probably make it out alive. Lab reports can be pretty difficult, but the TAs are always available for help, and they hold review sessions each week.
I'm not actually totally sure there is a curve, but I expect that there will be, because otherwise half the class would fail.
Overall, the class is a pain. Labs are usually easy, but the reports and exams are difficult.

Pros: The TA is easy, but he's very observant. You must finish the prelab first before going to the lab, which is a plus because you will master the materials and do the lab real quick.
Cons: She is not teaching anything herself, but instead the TA teaches the class.
I see Ms. Jones one day and that's it, never see her again. I would recommend a professor who would get involved directly with students.

Pros: -Will help you if you go to her office hours
Cons: -Too much work for a 1 credit lab
-Make-up labs are extremely hard
-Final exam pretty much determines your final grade
-Lab practical is pretty difficult
-Pre labs every week
-Lab report due every week
Overall, be prepared to work very hard and do well on every assignment especially the midterm, lab practical, and final exam.

Pros: Sometimes the way she words questions isn't ideal, which makes it difficult to understand what answer she wants and how she wants you to say it.
Cons: She gives a lot of work. Usually the lab report and pre-lab for the week will take about 5 hours to do combined, and when you also have a 4 hour lab it ends up being a lot of time spent on a 1-credit class.

Cons: She demands a lot from her 1000 students. She likes to find the smallest lecture halls for review sessions, and when she has them, she's very unorganized. It's hard to even make sense of what she says due to the fact that she talks about the useless things and loves to exaggerate.

It's a lab, what do you expect? It's tough - lab reports every week plus post lab questions. One midterm (average usually around 5/10) and the final (average again usually around 5/10), and both are curved.
The labs themselves aren't too great either - expect to stay close to the whole time.
