CHEM 241
Organic Chemistry II
5*****
Pros: If you go to class, he will hint very heavily as to what will be on the exam. Also, his exams are very straightforward; check out the old exams either on Koofers or with the chem society on campus -- they don't change much. He really does want you to do well. He's very nice and the lectures are entertaining. I actually learned organic chemistry this year, and have found that I actually like it (which I never thought I would say after Orgo I). I highly recommend Dr. Khachik. It's not an "easy A" but it is definitely a "doable A."
Cons: N/A
The reason I clicked "frequently" on extra credit is b/c you have to write your section number on your exam, and for doing so correctly you earn 5 points towards your exam grade. I used the textbook as a supplement (especially for conceptual type things; i.e. what determines the basicity of an amine?). Generally, I would suggest taking really good notes during lecture and using those to study from primarily, and then supplement with the book for conceptual ideas and to do homework problems.

CHEM 241
Organic Chemistry II
5*****
Pros: He is very organized and his lectures coincide with the book material. Very helpful during office hours. His exams cover the material taught in class, nothing extra.
Cons: It's a rigorous course that requires a lot of studying.
Be prepared to take very detailed notes, listen to him carefully, he announces the type of mechanisms he's gonna cover prior to outlining them, but doesn't always jot them on the board. His lectures follow the book material and during lecture he will also hint at "exam like" problems, be sure to mark these accordingly because they are sure to show up on his exams. Overall, I highly suggest taking Khachik, he makes learning this difficult material very manageable, as he is very well organized. Can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I love organic chemistry and in large scale it's due to Dr. Khachik and his enthusiasm for teaching.

CHEM 231
Organic Chemistry I
2**
Pros: Easy exams

Straight-forward
Cons: Lack of challenge

He teaches this class at a very basic level by giving examples directly from the book. Then on the midterms he presents similar problems from class which are for the most part easy if you pay attention in class. I found myself unable to learn anything from him because he never provided extra work that would give students a challenge. This ultimately screwed students over for the final as he failed to prepare us all for a majority of the questions. Overall very easy, but be warned if you plan to take the MCATs it's advised you don't take this professor, but if you want an easier chance of passing then take him.

CHEM 231
Organic Chemistry I
2**
Pros: Exams easier than other professors.
Cons: Boring, disorganized lecturer.

Does not go into details necessary to comprehend O-Chem beyond pure memorization.

He has omitted sections from the text that should be studied to prepare you for lab.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone that has to take CHEM241. Khachik does not teach 241 usually, and his instruction in 231 will leave you unprepared to take the second course with another professor.

CHEM 241
Organic Chemistry II
5*****
Pros: Both CHEM231 and CHEM241 are very straight forward. He goes directly from the book so it is easy to study for his tests.
Cons: If you haven't read the material before class it can get a little confusing sometimes
If you read and outline the textbook, go to class, and do ALL the suggested problems (without looking at the answer guide until after you finish them) you will get an A. It is a lot of work but definitely doable.

CHEM 231
Organic Chemistry I
5*****
Pros: -Wonderful teacher

-Simplifies organic chemistry

-Focuses on making sure students understand concepts rather than confusing them with very difficult questions
Cons: -Your grade is pretty much your exam grades

-No other way to improve grade
I would recommend Khachik for he is a very good teacher and places a priority on making students understand concepts rather than just give difficult exams

CHEM 231
Organic Chemistry I
2**
Pros: no homework or quizes. lectures weren't too boring
Cons: HARD tests. He even says he chooses problems with a sneaky twist for exams to make sure we actually know material and can use it, not just repeat it. Also can be hard to understand at some times since he has a heavy accent
good orgo professor but you definitely need to study for tests since there are very few grades

Don't take him, seriously he is incompetent and he makes up for it by giving exams which are very tricky and long. I love Chemistry but this guy will make want to hate it, because 90% of the class always bums on his exams. He has this ridiculousness way rating students that'll have you confused, I got C but hey you could get an "A"....,in your dreams :-)

Pros: Tests are pretty straightforward. Doesn't try to trick you and tells you exactly how he wants you to answer a question.
Cons: Lectures are really disorganized. Basically have to teach yourself from the textbook. Go to discussion because you're not going to learn anything during lecture.

Pros: His exams come straight from lecture, and he really wants you to do well
Cons: The grading was not fair- barely any partial credit
You need to get lucky with a good TA for this class, and need to be willing to study a whole lot on your own

One of the best teachers to take Organic Chemistry with. Organic is difficult no matter who you have, but with Khachik you at least have a fighting chance of passing.
