Murnane is a very crude teacher in his language but he knows what he is talking about. He relays the information which is easy to remember because of all the personal examples he gives. However there are only 3 test which makes it difficult to get an A. I ended up with an 89.6% in the class and a B

uses VERY profane language - not appropriate for a professor in a college lecture hall. pretty fair professor - test questions come from lecture so if you attend lecture and don't open the book - you'll be fine!

go to lecture and you will get a good grade. his lectures are interesting so you will not mind going. he's a great teacher just a little bit hard with grading. he does not curve and you only get graded on your tests. overall he is a good teacher and makes lectures interesting.

One hell of a crazy guy. In the middle of lessons, he'll go off on random tangents and talk about smoking weed and strange experiences he's had in his life. He's a funny guy that makes you want to go to class. Highly recommend him.

This guy is hilarious, lectures are never boring. Some of his test questions could be a bit tricky sometimes. He goes through things pretty quickly and the class can be pretty tough though if you don't keep up.

He's hilarious, entertaining, and really knows what he's talking about. This class is pretty easy if you attend lectures and take notes. There's only 3 exams and the final.

Pros: Most questions on the exams are straight out of lecture, word for word. There's only a few questions from the text, so you can get by on not buying the text book. Just make sure you attend discussion, because your TA can tell you important stuff from the book.
Cons: Absolutely no wiggle room in when you take exams. You cannot reschedule anything unless you ask him the first week or two (w/e the University policy is). He does not "bump up" grades. If it's an 89.99, you get a B.
If you are offended by curse words, maybe this isn't the class for you.
Best class I've taken so far at UMD.

Pros: Great lecturer! Funny!
Attendance not mandatory.
Cons: Exams are difficult.
You will not like him if you are adverse to strong language and inappropriate sexual content.
Do not take this class under the impression that it is an easy A. You absolutely will have to come to class, take notes, AND read the text in order to succeed (get As or high Bs) on Murnane's exams. His lectures are incredibly entertaining, however, and it was generally a joy to come to class.

Pros: Dr. Murnane is hilarious. He also curses like a sailor which some people find offensive, but I think it's funny. His exams are straightforward, just make sure that you take good notes in every class.
Cons: The only con I can think of was that we had to partake in a number of psychological experiments in order to pass the class. Also, don't mess around in class, because he has no problem calling you out and putting you down in front of everyone!

Pros: AMAZING TEACHER
Best professor i've ever had. You wont need to worry about attendance because his lecture is better than staying home and watching TV. He's the most engaging and passionate professor i have ever come across. His exams are not easy by any means, but a lot of the things he asks are about the particular stories he tells in class, so they are easy to remember if you were there to hear it.

Pros: - great lecturer
- Exams aren't hard if you review notes beforehand.
Cons: - you might not like his attitude. He's a genuine and honest, but can come off as quite negative if you didn't know any better.
- three non cumulative exams
- he works only with a few projector sheets and his voice.
- you must take your own notes for every lecture or you will miss a section of the exam.

Pros: HE IS AWESOME. If you don't have a sense of humor though--beware. He is obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about topics as well. Great TA's.
Cons: He may not go over something in class at all, but everything in discussion and readings is still fair game. Discussions are not really review of lecture but new topics and lectures in itself by TA's.

Pros: The man is hilarious and will keep you awake if you can't sleep through noise. He yells from the beginning of class until the end. He curses a lot which can be funny at times because you do not expect it.
Cons: He is very strict. Don't think that if you show up to an exam late and teary eyed because you overslept that you will be able to take a makeup.

Interesting course
Teacher is excellent, curses all the time and talks about Gears of War. What's not to love?
Cons: Only 3 exams. No other grades.
I heard he teaches a lot differently for his upper level classes and that they're significantly harder, but his 100 class is relatively easy. Completely lecture based, no need for a book.

Pros: Impossible to fall asleep in class. He is simply a character, a must have teacher.
Cons: If you are not appreciative of foul language, don't take this class.
Exams are relatively easy, and all about the lectures. With the exception of like 2 or 3 random questions from the reading no one does. Even if you read you will probably not get them right.
