Nelson is a really nice man, and was very helpful when I had conflicts taking exams on the scheduled dates. He's very funny in lecture, even though you really do not have to go to lecture since he posts all his slides online. I still went, and found it beneficial to at least hear him discuss the topics. His tests aren't easy, and I ended up studying really hard for this class in order to do well, but there is a curve built into the grade, so you can lose up to about 120 points all together by the end of the class and still have an A. He doesn't curve individual tests, but you have to remember that, given this system, an A on a test is something like an 85 and above. All in all, its a tough class no matter who you take it with, and you are going to have to end up reading the textbook chapters anyway, but I had a good experience in Nelson's class and would recommend him.

There is nothing wrong with the professor himself. The problem are the tests. The tests are only 18 multiple choice and 2 short answers. It is difficult to study 5 chapters of information (A LOT of information) to then answer 18 questions. The questions are multiple-multiple choice which means they can have 1 to 5 right answers. This leaves alot of room for only partial credit. I'd rather take a quiz with 60 questions knowing there was only one sure answer. My TA was also an idiot.
Pros:
friendly guy, no attendence taken, book has online text
Cons:
masteringbiology assignments, tests are hard

Pros: Hes a pretty easy teacher with the potential of lots of extra credit
Cons: He gets kind of boring since he lectures from his slides that he ends up putting online anyways
He offers lots of extra credit through mastering biology which is a very nice thing. He is an overall easy teacher as long as you look over the slides and do the mastering biology. You can work your way to an A.

I talk to my lab TA a lot for this class, so I don't have a lot to say for this teacher in particular. His tests are really straight forward, though. His tests are based on his lectures, but you need to read the book to make sure his lectures make sense.

Dr. Nelson mainly reads from the lecture slides, so his class is not that interesting, but his tests are fair and he is interesting to talk to after class

Pros: Good professor who explains the material well and is very open to student concerns. Adds 40 points to total score to help boost final grade.
Cons: The material itself can be very challenging if you don't go to lecture or read the books.
Very good professor, but prepared to work because the material is hard.

Cute old man! Adds a 40 point buffer to your grade. Exams are difficult because they are multiple multiple choice so you have to know a lot about the subject. The final was actually a lot easier than the 4 exams during the semester, thankfully.

If you just read the assigned material, nothing is going to surprise you on the exams. You don't really need to go to lecture unless you don't understand things
