BSCI 105 - PRIN BIOL I
Very challenging teacher, difficult exams. Emphasizes lecture attendance. He expects a lot out of his students, but if you go to lecture and do the reading and really try, you will be fine

He is such a pretentious asshole. He gets mad at you if you don't participate but will make fun of you if you get the answer wrong. He's also on probation for failing too many students.

O connor is really smart but he is a horrible lecturer. he doesnt take the time to explain much of anything thorouglhly and kinda rushes through it. You'll be in the middle of writing down the first sentence when he's finished his 6th sentence and moved onto the next subject. He's extremely boring too. the worst part is his tests are about his lectures even if you have the power points there is so much useless information that you dont need to know but he gives you and so much that you do need to know that he doesnt stress enough. there are no study guides or anything along those lines except a review session which is completely useless. reading the book and lectures may help you but not that much. And the amount of information you read from power points is no where as much as you need to know for the test there is just so much unecessary information.

Extremely difficult class. Taught as a 400 class and not an intro. Very knowledgeable person but is terrile at relaying information to the students. Moves very fas and test deal with very very minor details and not concepts. Refuses to put notes on blackboard prior to class which makes class even harder

The projects and homework assignments are referring to the lab part only; not the lecture. This professor bombards you with a lot of information; be prepared! Not an easy course.

Pros: He knows what he's talking about, and (believe it or not) he's actually a nice guy if you go to talk to him outside of class. Exams are almost exactly like previous years, so if you can get them, tests are much easier. Lab is easy, and counts for a lot of your grade.
Cons: He teaches the class as if it were a 400 level course, rather than an introductory one. He uses all sorts of terminology that most of the class is not familiar with, and expects us to know what he's talking about. He tends to almost make fun of students for asking questions during lecture, and if you give the wrong answer to something he asks, he will ridicule you in front of the whole class. Exams are about picky little details, and are almost impossible if you can't find old ones.

Pros: you don't have to go to class
Cons: he can't teach you anything without throwing in a huge scientific word, just to make sure you really don't understand what he's saying. he doesn't actually want you to learn anything, he just wants you to know how smart he is. asshole.

Avoid taking him at all costs, try your hardest to take nelson for bio105, only saving grace is the generous use of old test questions which are put on new tests word for word, getting a hold of these tests is a must to do well in this class

Pros: Test are the same every year
Cons: Very Boring Professor
Lab is a great help in this class, or having someone who has taken him previously. The exams are tricky and long. Unless you have studied a previous test it will be a struggle.

O'Conner knows his stuff and is very knowledgeable, but he does NOT know how to pass the info to students. His exams are hard and he does NOT curve. Do not take his class unless this is the only class you'll take in UMD.
