Dr. Rothman is a great teacher. She is really easy to listen to, and funny. I got kind of tired of her off-color humor. She does a whole unit on gay and lesbian theatre which was very graphic, and gross. I don't mean this about gay people, but she showed very explicit and sexual pictures during one of her lectures which was disturbing. You can just avoid going to this lecture if you don't want to see hardcore pornography. Otherwise this class is easy, you just have to go to class because most of what is on the tests/quizzes comes straight from her power points which she doesn't post online. She also requires you to see two UMD theatre productions and write reviews on them, as a big part of your grade.

I hated her class. It felt more like a prison than a college class. The TA's would constantly patrol the room, looking to see if anyone wasn't paying attention, and if they thought you weren't paying attention, they would mark you off. This is annoying, but it becomes just plain unbearable when she decides to waste twenty minutes of class time talking about things which are, by hr own admission, 100% irrelevant to the class. She also will make her own stupid jokes legitimate quiz questions while relegating relevant class material to extra credit.
Pros:
She makes theater interesting, and has a deep knowledge of the subject
Cons:
Has a very off-color sense of humor, and likes making people see graphic sexual images. Has a tendency to waste class time, but won't ever let you leave. She can be a real bitch when she is in a bad mood. Hard tests

The class was not only interesting, but not too hard either. Dr. Rothman is energetic and even though the class meets later in the afternoon, she holds the class' attention very well. The reviews are not too difficult either. The midterm is much easier than the final, but there is ample opportunity for extra credit- take advantage of that! Keep up with the readings and you will easily get an A in the class.

There's a LOT of extra credit given in this class (you can get up to 50 extra credit points easily). Dr. Rothman is hilarious, but towards the end of the semester, she has a lot of guest lecturers and it kind of gets boring. Other than that, it's a hilarious class. You're guaranteed to be laughing a lot.

A funny and enthusiastic professor. Her class is very interesting and fun. A lot of work and readings in her class. The class itself is not hard as long as you pay attention in class. Enormous amount of extra credit points, so there is no reason that you shouldn't get an A in this class.

Dr. Rothman doesn't always teach class but the guest lecturers provide detailed informaiton on the subject. Be sure to show and take notes beacuse: 1. In class quizes are important 2. Test are straight from the notes and she doesn't post slides.

Pros: How could theatre get easier? Rothman is an extremely nice lady, looooves theatre, and gets you interested. The class is VERY easy. There are short quizzes, and are straight-forward if you do the readings. There are some pop quizzes, so you pretty much need to go to lecture, especially since a lot of the material she tests/quizzes you on is based on what she says. The readings are mostly plays and are easy and interesting. Overall and easy A.
Cons: Unfortunately, she likes to test you on specific things she says during lecture, so you definitely need to be there and taking notes.
She gives a pretty hefty extra credit opportunity which is easy to get.

Pros: Your homework for the class is watching musicals!
She really gets you engaged in the class and everyone feels comfortable talking
Final project was awesome: we got to create an idea for a musical and pitch it to the class
Cons: None really!
Most of the homework was watching musicals, reading articles about them, and you have a quiz on every musical. There are also a few papers, but they're manageable. She often gives ridiculous extra credit, like 10 points for dressing up like a character from a musical. You also have a class trip to DC to see a show, which was really fun. Overall, a really great class. An easy A.

Pros: Its possible to get 50 points extra credit. She is absolutely hilarious and uncensored. So sometimes she said vulgar things that make it that much more funny and interesting. She is so cool about everything.
Cons: You must attend every class or have someone take notes because she doesn't posts notes online nor does she give out study notes.
She is probably the best professor I've ever had. She is hilarious, engaging, and fun. This class was great.

Pros: Awesome Class, Awesome Professor
Cons: None
My favorite class by far. Dr. Rothman is super funny and class is always fun. I always looked forward to this class. Homework is watching musicals and sometimes a couple readings. No tests, just short, easy quizzes (but only easy if you watched) on each musical. Class discussions are very interesting, and you'll learn a lot!
For the final project, you work in a group and pitch an idea for a musical!

Pros: She really likes teaching theater. Her class is really easy if you just listen. Tests are right off of the lecture. Papers are graded leniently(depends on TA).
Cons: Lectures not online. Need to be there for most classes due to short quizzes(if you attend you will do fine).
I only needed a 55% on the final to get an A. This is an easy A! Just make sure you go to all the classes and try to ask questions or make a comment every once and again.

Pros: Really really funny, really knows her stuff. Powerpoints are really easy to learn from. Homework usually consists of readings, which you than have easy quizzes on. Homework also consists of watching musicals, which can be time consuming but is really easy.
Cons: Stringent on her no-texting rules, will call you out on talking while she is talking or texting
This class is great, even for people who don't love musicals.

Pros: All the information you will need for the course is easily accessible and most of it comes from lecture. There are up to 50 EC points available for little to no work at all. Dr. Rothman is entertaining and her joke about the polar bear gets me every time.
Cons: Must do the reading. She will know if you don't and she will make you pay for it during the exams and the quizzes.
