BSCI 222 - PRIN GENETICS
Great Prof. had her for BSCI105 and 222. Tests are not bad, not tricky if you know what you're doing, just long sometimes. active, funny lectures. uses clickers, there's some extra credit in the classes. Doesn't curve because she doesn't have to. Could drop one exam in BSCI222.

BSCI 105 - PRIN BIOL I
Don't take her. There are many more BSCI105 professors out there. One who curves and gives out easier exams.
Pros: She gives away free clicker points. Several chances of extra credit.
Cons: Her exams are EXTREMELY difficult. There is no curve. Her extra credit is tedious, and you have to get it right in order to get the credit.

Pros: You buy all of the semester lecture notes before the course. It really has every slide in it and some extra diagrams. It's so helpful to study from. A lot of her questions will come from her lecture notes, though it's a good idea to read the textbook. She gives some practice exam questions during lectures (like clickers). It's easy to get all the clicker questions you need by the end of the semester. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities.
Cons: She could be a bit rude sometimes (if a student asks an "obvious" question)

Dr. Shield's has a very vibrant personality - she says what is on her mind no matter its content. She is easy to get along with and enjoys teaching. She is annoyed with those who talk during her class, but shouldn't she have the right to be so?

I have gotten any where from a 66-77.5 on three prefinal exams and I need to get at least an 85/140 on the final to recieve a "B" in the course. Dr. Shield's realizes that exams aren't everyone's strong point and she gives lots of small assignments that will reflect your knowlege and support your grade.

She also gives extra credit, which is welcomed! Her extra credit on exams I found challenging, but she has real life scenarios called PAKs and it is fairly easy to recieve extra credit on these.

Also, if you take this course in the Spring you may recieve extra credit (up to five points) for helping out with Maryland Day [if BSCI105 continues to participate in the event].

Pros: -Very Invested in class

-Posts most things online

-Is an advisor
Cons: -Mastering Biology doesn't show the questions you got wrong

-Can come off as harsh at times

-Gets impatient during review sessions when it gets redundant and or people aren't listening
Should only take class if it's a requirement for your major since it is a "MAJORS' class after all.

Not the best choice to just fulfill core for an LL or other kind of science.

Pros: She has an amazing personality and is very lively and engaged during lecture. Has been teaching the class for a while so really knows what parts she wants to focus on. Also comprises her slides into a notebook for you to take notes on during lecture which is extremely helpful for studying.
Cons: Her exams do tend to be pretty hard and you pretty much have to go to lecture.

Pros: She lets you opt out of the final in return for the grade she offers you.
Cons: Clicker points are a fairly large portion of your grade so you need to attend class. The quizzes in discussion are somewhat difficult as well and you'll have homework due each week.
