HIST 157
HIST U S SINC 1865
5*****
Smead is very interesting to listen to. I enjoyed this class, although my TA was not the best. Exams were sort of difficult, but primarily because it was hard to argue your case with the TAs, who did all the grading. If you had a fair TA then you do well, but otherwise you might not do as well as other sections. I would definitely recommend Smead to anyone

Discussion is 30% of the grade. Read the primary sources, and be prepared to really think about, evaluate and compare them during each week's discussion.

5*****
Pros: Professor Smead is really one of the best professors (especially history) on campus. He makes his material interesting and presents it in a way that makes you want to know history. He's real chill and also efficient because he puts his lecture notes online and records his lectures on itunes, so if you have to miss a day your covered. But Go to class cause he makes teaching look easy.
Cons: Nothing really?
Smead is the Best!

HIST 157
HIST U S SINC 1865
4****
Pros: He's fun to listen to and really understanding.
Cons: He never really gives any insight into his exams, he gives you a review guide which is basically an outline of everything you learned, but one or 2 things from the study guide will actually be on the test
I was looking for an easy filler class and this was definitely more work than I was looking for in a class that I didn't even need

Pros: my TA never gave any quizzes, which was nice. professor can be boring, but comes out with these sarcastic comments you have to pay attention to notice, but they're really funny
Cons: my TA gave us annoying papers... sometimes grading system was asking too much of essays written during a timecrunch

Pros: He can be entertaining, and some of the things he talks about are cool. You can tell he's really into the subject.
Cons: He goes on and on about topics, so we're often behind in class material and talking about things in discussion a week before he actually lectures on them.
