Easy class. You can read but he goes over the main points in class through powerpoints, which he then posts (usually- depends on his mood). He can be kinda crazy at times, sometimes to make a point. At the beginning we all thought it was really comical but now most of us find him fun but strange. There's no doubt that he knows what he's talking about, though. And he really does care about you learning and understanding things. He's great about replying to emails, too! There's only one project- a public policy research brief.

This lecture class is an okay class. Is the material hard? No. Is the teacher cool? Sure. Do you learn a lot in the class? Not really. If you are a serious person when it comes to public policy, then you probably won't want to take the class, I can see how it could be a little annoying. But if you are just looking for some credits to fill some requirement or something. Great class to take!

Pros: He is a very entertaining lecturer and he makes lectures very easy to sit through. The class is very easy yet very informative and interesting. I enjoyed this class very much.
Cons: Gitterman is not very conversational individually. He is very seemingly nice and lively in lecture settings but in person he can seem a little cold. However, the recitation TA's are very nice and explain things well so there is no need to converse or deal with Gitterman individually unless you are in an honors section.

Pros: He attempts to make his class interesting and relevant with news stories and youtube videos



The recitations provide an opportunity for students to discuss their personal opinions and debate



The tests are relatively easy
Cons: You will have to write a policy brief and while he gives plenty of time and fair deadlines, the TAs don't always do a good job explaining how to write this paper
People like to talk about his strict policy on Facebook, but I don't see anything wrong with paying attention to his lecture for 50 minutes instead of wasting time on the Internet.

Pros: He genuinely cares about his students. He wants respect and wants you to learn. The work is not hard and he tries hard to make the class fun.
Cons: The class is super boring and he knows it.
The topic material is just painfully boring. He knows it and tries to spice it up. Some complain about his use of class time, but he is really trying hard. Extra points for really, truly caring about his students.

Pros: He's very nice and cares about his students. Lets you use a notecard on the midterm. The final isn't cumulative.
Cons: Have to write a fairly difficult policy brief. He uses clickers so you have to go to class.
Really funny guy. I definitely recommend his class. If you actually try you should get an A.

Pros: Very engaging class with lots of entertaining youtube videos. He bought a sleepy kid a coke on the first day and got the entire class starbucks giftcards.
Cons: N/A
Some people are bothered by his policies on facebook and cellphone use in class. Really isn't a big deal.
