she is a good teacher who gives you all the information in class in her outlines. her tests are very tricky though and she often asks questions that have to be deeply thought about. to me, she didn't really test us on how well we knew the material but how well we could navigate her tests.
Pros:
well prepared with detailed lecture outlines
Cons:
tests are really tricky

I loved this class with Hogan. She presents the material to make it interesting, & class is usually very entertaining. You take notes on an outline she gives you and she puts all the information on easy-to-read powerpoints, which she also posts online. If you study & understand these, you can do well on the 3 exams. The exams are definitely challenging, & there isn't a curve, but you'll learn much more in this class than in the other BIOL 101 classes. There really isn't much work to do for this class besides studying for the tests. If you are struggling, I would suggest going to SI with Sophia Woo; she is extremely helpful. I definitely recommend taking from Hogan.

Great teacher, really knows her material. But her tests are ridiculously hard. I'll spend the entire week before a test stressing and studying in whatever time I have. Part of it is that you just have to get used to her style, or, if you're a first-year, get used to college tests at all. But she crams way too much material into three tests and one final cumulative exam and then tests on minute details. It can be pretty frustrating. And no curving.

Her tests are tough but she's really nice and a good professor. She actually cares about how you're doing in her class and encourages her students to see her in office hours. She does fill in the blank notes during lecture and makes good powerpoints. Practice exams are available throughout the semester on blackboard, in addition to blank outlines and the powerpoints from lecture.

Dr. Hogan is an excellent lecturer--very organized and on the ball. Her tests do require a lot of studying, but so far I've made flashcards straight from the notes, didn't do any reading (besides what the hw required) and I have an A on both the first 2 exams. She drops the lowest exam, so I'm all set. She really enjoys teaching and the material.

Difficult for me as I haven't had Biology in 6 years. Crams way too much information into each session. Aside from that, she's a great professor and if you like Biology this is for you. If you're looking for a lab requirement, take Geology.

She's a really good teacher. You get homework once every 2-3 weeks. Her exams are hard, but if you study the outlines and read as you're supposed to, you'll do fine.

Pros: She is very knowledgeable about this subject and provides notes that you can fill in while taking the class.
Cons: Her test are really hard and sometimes tricky as in sometimes it seems as if a test question can go either way if you think to much into it.
She is an absolutely amazing person who cares about your grade and will help you succeed! She also posts her Powerpoints for you to look over...

Pros: I learned a lot about bio. Dr. Hogan is a great professor and lecture is very helpful.
Cons: There was a lot of work and a lot of memorization involved. To do well on the tests you basically have to memorize all the guided readings and class notes.
I did well on all the exams without studying the powerpoints or going to SI sessions, so if you are an independent learner that will probably work for you. You just have to put in the time to memorize or you won't do well.

This was such an interesting class. Dr. Hogan and Dr. Kuslak did an amazing job. The quizzes were a little difficult, but it was definitely worth it. Probably my favorite undergraduate class so far!
