ECON 2006 - Principles of Economics
This class is 100% book based, all the information can be found in the textbook he issues (for me at least it was). He grades on a +/- system (93-100 is an A, 90-92 is an A-...). Number one thing I can stress is test preparation, most useful tool for...

Pros: Dr. Gebremariam has an amazing life story that you definitely need to ask him about - he's a very motivational professor who cares deeply about his students. If you attend his classes, you get free attendance points. Shows much enthusiasm for his class, and does his best for the students to reflect it.
Cons: His accent is hard to understand at first, but you get used to it after awhile. The tests can be very difficult if you don't know how to tackle them. I found Macroeconomics, at many times, to be quite boring as well. The articles in the Aplia homework are really tedious and annoying.

ECON 2006 - Principles of Economics
Pros: hes very enthusiastic and kind, if you have an issue with anything he is open and available.
Cons: you cant understand a word he says. he goes off on tangents that don't make sense. he always goes over time, which always makes me late for my next class because he "forgets" what time our class lets out (even though we are almost done with the semester). he curves grades at the end, which is helpful but the exams are hard.

Number one thing I can stress is test preparation, most useful tool for me was to use the study guides Aplia offered. To access them, go to the Apliasite, look under course materials tab, and use whatever you need. He also offers iClicker questions and past practice tests as ways of studying. He does an immense class vote to curve at the end of the year. We voted on a five point final curve based on attendance, three homework grades dropped, one test grade dropped, and having the final exam cover only six chapters.

First off let me say that Gebre has an amazing life story. I hope you're lucky enough to get to hear about it. As for his class, his accent makes it next to impossible to understand anything he discusses in the lecture. Early in the semester attendance steadily declined. His tests weren't too bad. I used the book as my basis of study, along with the quizzes/ tests on My Econ Lab. The HW was an easy grade booster, as all MyEconLab HW's are. The final was the toughest part of the course. It also counts for 35% of the overall grade. As I said before, the attendance dropped so low (one Fri. maybe 5/125 showed) that he offered extra credit for those who attended the last four weeks of class. This made my final grade increase from a B to an A. Definitely worth it! Overall not bad.

If you actually want to learn something, I would suggest not having him as your teacher. He's a nice enough guy, but he confused me on everything and I felt like I learned nothing all semester. He really wants everyone to do well, so just ask for extra credit and he'll give it to you. His exams are kinda ridiculous. I know that other people thought that they were pretty basic common sense, but unless you understand his thought process, you're not gonna do so hot. He has grade boosters through myeconlab, the homework system that he requires you to use. They help to an extent.

I've had a lot of teachers with accents but he has by far the worst accent ever!! I can usually understand my other prof with accents but even if I strain my ears I could not understand a word he was saying. Besides the accent, some of the exams were difficult. The difficulty of the practices and the actual exams vary (usually the exams are a lot harder than the practices). He does try to accommodate you, however. He's willing to help and he (kind of) let's the class decide how the exams should be graded.

Pros: He always wants to help people pass. He'll do anything to help motivate you. He ALWAYS gets the class to vote to curve tests, drop homeworks, and drop exams. Unless your class is a bunch of idiots, they will of course vote to curve and drop assignments.
Cons: Cannot understand a word he says. Thick accent. Great guy but I didn't learn anything in the class. I always had to go home and study but I did well. Takes attendance every day. Go to class or It'll bite you in the ass.

Pros: Gebre is an extremely nice person, and a very fair professor. I would recommend him. I went to class 50% of the time, paid attention 10% of the time and got a B in the class.
Cons: Very hard to understand his accent. Makes it hard to pay attention in class.

Pros: Superb professor. His life story is motivational to the point of feeling guilt when you don't try your best. He is super energetic about the topic. He nearly always has a grin on his face and will jump up and down or dance quickly about the room to show examples. He teaches verbally, shows the math on the board, and uses graphs/powerpoints to hit all three major ways of learning.
Cons: Accent. It truly isn't too much of a con, though. If you listen to him for the first few classes then you begin, rather easily, to filter out his fillers and understand him just fine.
Cares more about his students than any other professor I have had. I learned more than just macroeconomics from him and if you give him even the slightest bit of your attention you will notice that he is just fun to watch.

Seemed like an interesting guy. New teacher but has one heck of an accent. I eventually found myself not coming to class because I could not understand a word he was saying. In ECON 2005 he gave 1 homework a week except it was about the equivalent of the other ECON teachers tests. It was 50-60 questions and took around 3 hours to do because everything had to be looked up. At the end with a lot of complaining we were able to persuade him to curve the grades, give us an extra credit homework, and drop an exam.

Yes his name is as hard to pronounce as it looks, but don't let that persuade you from taking him. Hes really nice, and very fair. Class can be boring at times, but really Economics isn't exactly the most exciting subject. He always talks about getting the most out of your tuition money so he will never take a class off or let you out early. Also, be prepared to come to class everyday in order to get attendance points, he takes attendance almost every other day. Dr G, is da man.

Pros: He really cares about his students and is more then willing to meet with them outside of class to explain things.

The class started out really rough but during the last full weeks he asked us how we wanted the class to be curved and how we would like our grades boosted.
Cons: The exams can be tough if you have not been keeping up with the work.

He can be very hard to understand due to his accent.
Overall, with the exception of his accent, he has been on of the best ECON professors that I have had.

The only complaint I have as the communication just because of his accent. However, he a very nice and sincerely loves the subject. He will always email you back an answer any questions. He wants you to succeed. He does do attendance with the iclicker but its only 5% and the test come directly from book. He always always curves and he dropped our three lowest homework grades and our lowest exam grade. Definitely take his class!

He was a new teacher so he didn't quite know everything that was going on and tended to do things his own way instead of following the lead of other ECON teachers; however, he obviously knows what he's talking about. When I sat down to study with other people taking ECON 2005 for the final, I understood the material better than anyone else. Great, enthusiastic professor!

Pros: Extremely interesting!
Cons: Hard to Understand
He is hard to understand, so students who are can't adapt to a Teacher's accent should most definitely stay away. I had trouble in the beginning of the year but by the end I could understand every word he said. He is an extremely interesting man and tells some amazing stories. I got much more out of his class than just simple econ.

He's a really nice guy, just very difficult to understand (super strong accent). Go to class because there is an i-clicker question everyday and read the book before exams and you should do alright. He is always willing to take suggestions into consideration- he shortened the length of our texts and made aplia homework a larger % of our grade because we asked him to.

Gebre has an accent which is distracting at first. As long as you read your book and take time to visit him in his office before exams. You should get at least an A or a B in his class. He gave us 5 free questions on every exam and even let us vote on whether to have a curve or not. Overall a fair teacher, just a little hard to understand him at times.

His accent is kind of hard to understand He takes attendance with iClicker every class The first exam was tricky but since then they medium hardness I think he is a decent teacher. Not bad, but not great. He is very friendly and if you can get the class to agree on something he will usually do what you agree upon

I have no idea what he said the entire time I was in his class, but I've got a B here right before the final and he's given us 5.5 points of extra credit added onto our final grade, so I guess it was OK overall. I only went to class a handful of times all year and did pretty well so you should be fine too.

Really has a passion for economics. Knows his stuff better than anyone else. Lectures come right from the slides that come right from the book. Test arent too bad, but he doesnt drop any like all of the other teachers. Very hard to understand. If it wasnt for extra credit I would have never gone to this class.

Pros: He is one of the nicest and caring men I have ever met. I just want to hug the guy. His passion for his subject is unparalleled. He told his life story the first day of class and almost everyone cried (well not exactly, but it was touching)
Cons: He is fairly hard to understand.
If you read the book you will be fine
