Pros: Class material is pretty basic.
Cons: Attendance of the recitation is required and has a significant impact on your grade. The recitation material did not really relate to the lecture material at all. For exams, you have to go to the Empo.

Pros: Great teacher. Get him for Vector Geometry. I didn't miss a lecture, even though it was 8 AM because I knew that I would have a good class.
Cons: He teaches directly to the quizzes, so you only learn the nine problems for the week. It could be better if he could teach to a general curriculum that allows the students to figure out the empo problems on their own.
Great jolly man. Knows a lot about math, and enjoys teaching.

Hart is probably one of the best math professors at Virginia Tech. He makes the subject simple to understand and is very useful in office hours. I took Vector Geometry (and hopefully Differential Equations next semester) and the only part I didn't like about the class had nothing to do with Hart. Definitely recommend.

He teaches me everything I need to know in an hour and 15 minutes each class. He knows everything there is to know about vector geometry. Really funny guy.

Quizzes 63% of total grade <-- about 9-10 quizzes total HW 15% <-- about 15 hw for the whole semester so 1% for each Final 22% <-- multiple choice + work-out He was one of the best professors I've taken at tech. He was very good at explaining stuff. His notes on the materials were very easy to understand. He made multivariable calculus really easy for everybody. There were no exams but a final for his class. There were roughly 11-12 quizzes & they worth about 6-7% of your final grade %. Most quiz questions are easy if you do the homework. One or two random, tricky questions usually pop up in quizzes though. Homework are graded on your effort. If you do about 95 % of a homework, you get a 1 for that homework. If you do less, you get a zero. It's like either you do them or you don't. Took the class Fall 2009.

I got a D in Calculus in High School, but I pulled an A in this class. The materials he provides on Black Board are exponentially better than any text book I've seen at explaining concepts and solving examples.

I thought his portion of the common-exam final was ridiculously difficult, but I don't really know why. I felt like I should have known it.

If I could, I'd try to take every level of Math I could from Professor Hart, Heath.

The course had weekly quizzes from the Math Emporium. The Professor only gave one quiz on the second day of class.

Towards the end of the semester, I could not bring myself to go to this class. I am usually pretty good about attendance, but this lecture was just plain dull and I did not feel like I was learning anything by going. You can read the book for a few minutes and do fine on the quizzes and exam in my opinion.

MATH 1224

Pros: Most of the material is covered in lecture as well as how to answer the problems on the tests and quizzes.
Cons: Recitation often times seems to focus on points that don't help with the quizzes or tests, but it is hard to do well on the quizzes if you do not know the material and take the quiz before recitation.
Dr. Hart is a great guy and it pays off going to his lectures. Not only does he help you learn the material, but he makes time for students to ask questions and is easy to talk to.

Professor Hart is an all-around great teacher. Diffeq is one of those classes that has relatively unbearable material, but his enthusiasm and humor makes you forget about the agony. He doesn't give tests, but instead one short quiz every week. He also gives one very short homework assignment every week that is graded for completion. If you go to class and study for the quizzes, it is very possible to do well

He is a very jolly man and is always friendly. If you ask him questions during or after class he always tries to explain it as best he can. He also used several different kinds of examples so if you don't understand one way you might get another. He also didn't have the typical three exams but broke those down into weekly quizzes.

MATH 1224

Pros: This is an empo course with a teacher but he goes over example questions that are very similar to the one's you'll get on the quizzes and test.
Cons: The only thing that sucked was having to go to recitation with a TA once a week. It's a waste of time but you have to go because it's 15% of your grade.

Best prof I have ever had. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. Made a typically dry class into my favorite (and it was an 8am!). The only test we took was the final, however we had weekly quizzes (most of the time). Very lenient with grading. Awesome guy, you're lucky to get him.

Hart was easily the best of the 4 math professors I have had at Tech. He spends alot of time making sure everyone understands the material and spaces the course out well to allow for an end of semester review which is a big help for the final exam.

Good teacher willing to help. Liked how his class was set up - providing you with notes each day. Wasn't too thrilled about his grading system b/c he does not drop anything but other than that great professor to have.

Hart was teaching this subject for the first time and it went well for me. He uses a variety of pen colors so you can follow along easily. He is always willing to take questions from the previous week so just ask.
