GEOS 1024 - Resources Geology
This class was an easy A. His tests are pretty easy and the content is actually interesting. He made a lot of jokes that either not a lot of people understood or no one was awake enough to hear because it was 8am. Either way not a bad class to take for Area 7 or Green Engineering.

Study hard for the exams because theres only 4 and thats all you have. No homework, projects, or extra credit. Hes a really nice guy but definitely can be a difficult class if you're not into geology. Materials pretty basic but exams seemed a little difficult.

There are only 4 tests a semester and the last one is the final (not cumulative). All of his lectures are online, and he reads straight from the lectures. will give some information during class that shows up on the tests. Really boring class. Definitely a hard class to go to. He tries to make jokes, but its really hard to be enthusiastic about rocks.

A lot of his test questions are very picky- memorize the slides! He only curves the test if the class average is below a 75, which never happened in my class. I hated how exams were the only grades in there. I came to every class and took notes and still struggled.

The exams are tough but once you learn what to expect they can be a little easier. He takes attendance with iClickers and you can miss up to 3 classes without a penalty and even missing more than 3 barely affects your grade. There is an online quiz for every chapter which are pretty easy and he drops the lowest four scores. Biggest help was to go to class and write down the iclicker question, all possible answers, and the correct answer. Then I would quiz myself on the iclicker questions as extra study material and become familiar with them because he copy and pastes about 5 or 6 iclicker question onto each exam. Overall the class involves little work but serious studying for exams is necessary to get an A.

Pros: mastering geology quizzes online are fairly simple (based off the book, not his notes)

4 test...not cumulative
Cons: the tests are ten times harder then they need to be.

extremely boring lectures but you have to go for attendance points (through iClicker)

he says the word "literally" 50 times a lecture, and the way he says it is just agitating
this is an intro class but its is not easy by any means. he shoots for a 75 average on the tests. personally i studied for hours on each test...knew the slides by heart... lowest grade of an 80 highest of an 83.

take resources geology or get a professor....DONT TAKE IT WITH JOHNSON

Boring lecture, all the powerpoint are online and he doesn't stray from them too often. Adds some extra tidbits. Definetly read the book eventhough he says most of the questions are from the lecture. Hard to study for tests, information is random. Easy to get a C

Overall the class is not that difficult. I ended up gettin a B. Neil is definitely on the boring side. Going to class isnt necessary but you should go anyways because there are diagrams that you cant see when you download the powerpoints.

I just took notes of his lecture slides on OneNote and didn't buy the book. B+ on most of the tests. If you study all the notes, you should get a decent grade. I thought it was a pretty good class to go to.

Decent lecturer, easy to understand with clear powerpoints. Always ready with a slightly lame joke about minerals or pop culture, which still made me crack up.

Pros: Has clear lecture notes along with interesting diagrams and comparisons to real world events. Overall a decent professor who knows a lot about geosciences
Cons: Ok seriously, they call this class rocks for jocks, and the class average on tests are only in the mid 70s.
I had Johnson for Resources Geology and I feel like he made the class harder than it was intended to be. Some of my friends had Fidalae and made As without studying. Me, I cranked out a B- after going to every class, making flash cards, and studying for several days ahead of time. I liked his style of teaching but felt like his exams should have been more straight forward. Some questions were cloudy and contained answer choices A,B,C,none of the above, all of the above, more than one of the above. If you take this class and get Johnson, memorize the lecture notes word for word and understand each little diagram and reference he makes and maybe you'll get an A.

Pros: Great lectures usually pretty engaging with such a large class.

Usually realized when the class was bored or tired and would hold off taking a topic up until the next class
Cons: Tests seemed easy when taking practice tests he gives out but still managed to be tougher.

The uploads he does for the powerpoints are in PDF and everything overlaps making some entire chapters presentations useless for review.
Good teacher overall, making the class somewhat interesting for those who might not be too into the subject, yet challenging enough that you need to show up for each class and take notes to do decently!

Pros: He knows a lot about Geology and is willing to sit down with you during his office hours if you are confused with anything from your test or upset with your grade.
Cons: Do NOT take this class! His tests are ridiculous! There are only 3 and a final. No extra credit offered. The average on the tests is usually in the 70's. This is a freshman level course and I ended up with a D in the course. He is really monotone and half of the questions on the test, he doesn't even cover. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

Pros: Professor Johnson is a super sweet guy. My alarm never went off for his 7:45 final exam and I got there thirty minutes late and he let me take the exam and even suggested I go get coffee and calm down some before I started it! The class is pretty easy. Just make sure go over his power points and reading the textbook definitely helps.
Cons: He only gives four exams. You have to study pretty hard on all of them.
Definatley take this class with Johnson. Really sweet guy and not to bad of a class!!

Pros: Material was easy to follow.

quizzes were online and open book so it was easy to find the answers somewhere on the internet.

Slides are online so you can look them over whenever you want to.
Cons: I-clicker questions so you HAVE to go to class.

sometimes you'll find questions on the exams that are a little tricky.
He's an awesome professor, and great guy, and a little witty. He tries to keep classes interesting even though sometimes it doesn't work too well.

Pros: Always have to read for this class

All the notes are posted on scholar

Posts a practice test for every exam
Cons: The notes are really vague so you must attend class to get the details

The practice tests are only semi helpful he gives you 20 practice questions for an exam of at least 50 questions and only 3 will ever appear on the exam

The exams are pretty difficult
He's overall a nice teacher though

Professor Johnson's class was really interesting. He's a really nice guy who has a passion for what he is doing. He had great stories and interesting clips and videos for us to watch. He took what could have been a really boring topic and made it a joy to come to class.

Pros: Basically, you have 4 exams the whole semester, so if you study enough for them, its not too hard to get an A. The proffessor is very nice and understanding with individual students needs and doesn't mind answering questions during an exam.
Cons: Definitely not rocks for jocks. You have to fight to pay attention in this class
if you need a science CLE- this is not a bad choice

He is a really good teacher and as long as you go to class you will do well on the tests. He basically tells you everything that's going to be on them. He explains things in ways that help you better understand the subject, since geology is not the most stimulating subject to most of us!

Pros: Hes really a great teacher and knows his material and wants you to do well. Ask him questions after class if you don't understand him and he will help out
Cons: His exams cover so much material, its almost like you have to memorize to get the material, reading the book helps a lot and he makes the exams straight from the power-point slides.
