2306 is a notoriously hard class with notoriously terrible teachers. Kim definitely tried as much as he could. He would often show us little videos or applets to help us understand. Those were only able to help so much, and the material was very difficult. His accent was difficult to understand sometimes, and the recitations were pretty pointless.
Overall, he was the least bad of the 2306 teachers.

Yangsoo Kim's class is not pleasing. He is moderately organized in his presentation slides/lecture, but you have to work hard to understand what he is saying. So between his accent and the difficult material, class is not very informative. But you still should go to class because he gives iclicker quizes almost every class.
His homework is difficult and takes ~3 hrs a week but is do-able with the book. I have over 100 on the homework. It is worth as much as a test and so that really saves your grade. Also, if you get a good recitation TA then recitation is very helpful. It helped me a lot. Attendance is mandatory, too.
The tests are hard and require a lot of studying. He never curves, so don't expect one.

Kim was a decent guy, but lacked the teaching skills to effectively communicate the material. In addition, he absolutely refused to curve grades even when the class average was a 50%. Not an effective teacher.

Not a bad professor. Go to class, take notes, do the labs (easy 100%), and do the homework (also easy 100%). IIRC there were four tests, lowest was diminished and highest increased in weight. There were 20 multiple choice questions, plus 5 extra credit. Didn't use iClickers when I took the course (Spring 11). Does not curve.
It is easy to blame the accent if you do poorly in class. I had no trouble understanding him (I'm monolingual, flat north-east American accent).
Is Dr. Kim's class difficult? Well, everything is difficult if you're an imbecile. Is his class a lot of work? Not really. It's in proportion for a 4 credit course.

Kim is an ok teacher if you have had some physics in high school and have somewhat of an idea of what he is talking about or you read the chapter before class. It is hard to understand him at first but you get used to it, although even after two semesters with him i still cannot understand a few of his words. If you go to see him for help he is very helpful and will sometimes shoot the breeze with you before/after class. All his lectures are powerpoint based but he works out problems on a whiteboard. If you have a choice between ritter and kim, pick ritter, but when stuck between kim and slawney, pick kim.

Dr. Kim knows physics, but he does not know how to teach it. The first half of the semester, I went to each lecture, took copious notes, and attempted to understand the physics that way. However, the way I did well in the class is by taking the practice exam, redid the homework, and learning the formulas from the book. Attending class is extra credit, so it is in your best interest, but do other homework during that class That is the best advice I can give for this class.

Pros: group recitation quizzes on Friday's. Gives multiple shortcuts and examples during class. Tests are weighted based on the grade that you received on them i.e. your highest test grade counts the most and your worst counts the least.
Cons: He has a thick accent, but what professor in college doesn't. I was able to get used to it within the first few classes.
He is a very good helpful professor as long as you show up to class

Although he does know what he is talking about, he does a terrible job of explaining it in lecture. If it wasn't for the in-class quizzes, there is really no point in coming to lecuture because you don't really learn anything. Doing the homework is the best way to learn the material. He also doesn't curve the tests although the whole class failed the second test. I would not recommend his class.

I believe that Kim is honestly trying to be a nice guy, but he lacks the proper teaching skills to be a good teacher. He does NOT curve as of yet, but he does give an extra credit test, don't know if it will help much. First test average was a 50 in one class and a 55 in the other. Rather dismal, eh?
Take Chang.

This guy was tough. No curve with tough tests. Our TA was awesome for the course and tried to do the best he could to get us to understand the material. I personally think the TA should have been teaching. Overall I have heard a lot worse things about the other 2306 professors. So you are pretty much screwed either way right?

Like the other's have said, he seems to try and be a good teacher but lacks good teaching skills. The homework is long and frustrating. The tests are near impossible. I had better luck learning the material from the text book and only went to class to see sample problems worked out.

Prof. Kim's accent can make it difficult to interpret what he is saying. He expects you to be able to derive all of the formulas you need, which proves to be very difficult. Tests are hard, but he T-scores them as a curve. In class quizzes every day using the I-clicker.

Pros: Nice person
Cons: He is unable to speak English properly, or write in a chalk board properly. Therefore he is difficult to understand. He assume you know a large amount of background knowledge and therefore rushes through many difficult topics.

The average for the class on the first test was a 30 and the second test was a 35. He curves the grades to a D- and so most of the class fails regardless of the curve. Change your major....or at least find another teacher.

He knows what he is talking about, but does a very poor job in teaching it to the class. Students must rely on learning material through a TA or teaching it to themselves to pass his near impossible tests.

If you haven't taken E-theory then your not going to understand most of this class. Kim doesn't speak English clearly, and the homework involves deriving your own formulas a lot of the time
