she can be monotoned and boring. i fell asleep all the time. if you review the powerpoints, read the book a little and go over the study guides, you should be able to pull out an A or B.

Lipscomb's class is okay. Her voice is boring and monotone but her powerpoint slides are from the book's publisher, so if you read the book you don't even have to pay attention. 5% of your grade is through iClicker points (they really help at the end). My suggestion is to take your laptop, go to class, facebook, check your e-mail, do the homework that's due for next class..whatever, and click in whenever she has an iClicker question up. Make sure you read the book thoroughly b/c her exam questions are straight from the book. HW is super easy and directly in the book also. She never curves or gives out extra credit so really try from the beginning of the semester and you'll be fine. Also, do the study guides on blackboard. They help when tests and finals come around.

She is very fair and even let me make up a test once that I flat out slept through. Bio isn't exactly the most fun class I have ever had, but as far as teachers goes she is pretty good. I took her class the first semester and decided to take with her again because I had gotten used to her teaching style and knew what to expect. Plus, she gives study guides for each test and if you know what is on the study guide you will do well. Her class isn't necessarily something that I take info away from...I would much rather read the book than sit through the class because I feel I can learn the same info from the comfort of my on pajamas. But, this semester she has started using the dreaded i-Clicker...but it only counts for 5% of your grade... Her exams are on Koofers and although she doesn't use the exact same test, a lot of the questions are the same. Just be careful though because whoever posted the Koofer did NOT CORRECT THEIR ANSWERS!!!!

Ecology is for a very specific type of person. If you're more interested in the cellular or physiological aspects of biology, you are not gonna like this class. The information is VERY dry, and if you're not a plant person you're gonna have a very hard time caring at all. Unfortunately, Lipscomb's teaching style does not make it easy. She is a very nice woman. She assigns grades fairly, makes herself available to her students, and will always answer your questions - but her lecturing style is incredibly dull. As for her exams, they're easier in this class than they are in her General Biology classes. Most of the questions come directly from the notes and stuff she says in class; the only time I used the book was for homework assignments. The homework assignments are REALLY easy, she gives iClicker points in class, and she has "class assignments" that are basically graded on completion, so there is a little bit of grade buffer there, in case you're not doing well on the exams. There is no final curve, but depending on how the class is doing she may opt not to assign plus or minus grades.

Pros: -Iclickers are worth points -She is approachable with questions
Cons: -Tests are hard; use book extensively to study
I liked her a lot better than George Simmons. Less monotone than George, but still dry but she gets excited about the fungi unit.

Professor Lipscomb is very monotone in all of her lectures. Her voice tends to crack as she talks as well, as if she gets nervous in front of big classes. Her class is pretty straight forward for the most part.. yet difficult. You should definitely keep up with the reading and study guides because it DOES help. She uses a lot of the charts straight from the book, and some questions right from the study guides. Other than that, just study study study. A lot of her questions on the tests are tricky and difficult.. and expect at least 5 questions that are "all of the above", "none of the above" etc etc. Why the class is definitely difficult.. I managed to get a B on the first test.. so just try to keep up with the work the best that you can and study hard.

Pros: -Posts lectures online -Good about posting grades immediately
Cons: -She is very boring and has a monotone voice -What she teaches in her lecture is usually not whats going to be on her test
This class is really boring! If you can take another teacher I would recommend to do so. You have to make sure you're in class because she takes attendance through i-clicker and you can only miss class three times. Also, her test questions are not always what's in her lecture, so you need to make sure you know the details of each chapter. I would recommend using her lecture notes as a guide to what you need to study in the book.

Dr. Lipscomb is an outstanding teacher! I thought she would be boring considering what everyone wrote about her, but she wasn't in the least bit. Her class is easy to handle as long as you attend her classes and take good notes...whatever is in your notes is on her exam, which makes studying a breeze. She shows Planet Earth clips once a week. She takes attendance daily with an iclicker and gives occasional easy homeworks on situations she wants us to read. She is always available for help. She's soft-spoken, so don't sit in the back of the classroom.

Lipscomp knows her stuff, but her lectures can be pretty boring, especially as the semester goes on. Her tests are pretty hard you have to prepare in advance, just don't study 2 days before. I would say getting a B or C in this class is pretty easy as long as you study and do the homework assignments, which are easy. One thing about Lipscomb that I like is she is very easy to communicate with and is always available when you need her. She is always prepared and ready to go. Overall she is a great professor just a little boring!

Prof. Lipscomb presents a lot of information in her powerpoints, but to be fully prepared for the test you should use her study guide outline and prepare a study guide for each chapter. It requires more work to prepare the outlines, but it helps you memorize the information. Going to class and taking notes off of her powerpoint is not enough to do well in the class. She uses the iclicker system, which really does help you figure out what you still need to study.

AVOID!!!!! sure she's nice, but her lectures suck. there is no point to even going since she reads straight from the powerpoints which are posted on BB, except for the iclicker points which count for 5% of your grade... her voice gets really grating after a while. her "study guides" are really general usually, and the first thing is always "define key terms," which you are never tested on..try to get someone better if you can.

The most boring class ever. I stopped going because it was pretty useless. She is the nicest lady ever and is really available, but for real eff this class. I got a B and all you really need to do to study is do the study guides and go through the chapters. If this is for the core curriculum, you should just take geology.

Pros: Class participation points, homework is easy and manageable, clearly outlines what information will be covered
Cons: A ridiculous amount of material is covered in each unit and is expected to be known for exams, cumulative final, difficult exam questions (most seem unrelated/random/aren't on the study guide), boring lectures

avg instructor. a little monotone. but the tests are generally straight forward and she makers herself avaliable either for office hours or over email.

one complaint is some of the options she gives you on her multiple choice tests. alot of the questions have options that include "a&b; a,b &c; all of the above"

This class was kind of boring and most of the information was covered in high school. Use the practice test to study for the tests. Almost all of the answers for the test come straight from the book and not from the lectures. I actually did better in this class once I stopped going to class and just read the book.

I love Dr. Lipscomb's class. I feel like after passing 1005 and 1006 I can call her Mary :P. She was really there for her students. Very available, the homeworks are easy, the study guides are straightforward. Exams are difficult but very fair. She is a little dry at times but I still LOVED her class.

at first her class was pretty boring, but after having her last semester i was used to it and her grading technique. she clearly knows her stuff, and offers extra credit. she's generous in grading towards the end of the semester. (she rounds even a tenth up to the next percentage!) ended up with an A.

Lipscomb overall is a fair grader. she deff. knows what she is talking about, however, her tests can be hard. she usually goes into great detail on the test. but overall, if you come to class, take notes and do the study guides, and study before the tests, then you should be able to pull an easy B.

If you go to class (there is iclicker), pay attention in lecture, and read the text thoroughly, you shuld do fine in this class. She shows boring videos sometimes and is kind of boring. Her voice is also annoying. If you can manage to pay attention, you will have nothing to worry about!

Dr. Lipscomb's ecology class was not very challenging. All of her powerpoint presentations were posted online, and her test questions came straight from the powerpoints. The test averages was never below a B, and although she uses iclickers, it is only for participation.
