Best Professor I've had at VT. She makes her class fun so anyone can appreciate it. It's also one of the easiest classes I've taken. Just go to class and she tells you everything you need to know on the test. I got A's on all of her exams. You can even read the play summaries on spark notes and still do well in the class. Fabulous woman and Fabulous class. I highly reccomend it.

Susanna is an amazing teacher!!!! By far the best class I had all semester. You just read 7-8 short plays and discuss them in class or watch the corresponding movie. Susanna really cares about her students and addresses any questions or concerns about the plays or even events on campus. She also responds quickly to email. All you do is read the plays and take notes during class and it's an easy A. I recommend going to class and taking notes because she covers extra stuff that will show up on the tests. The final is not cumulative. There is an extra credit essay option at the end of the semester. Highly Recommend!

Loved her. Probably my favorite teacher at Tech. She was fair and always willing to hold study sessions to help students prepare for her tests. Even though they were really easy. Just read the plays/ sparknotes on them and come to class every once in a while.

Pros: Susanna is a very straightforward woman. The material she goes over in her lectures is exactly what is covered on the exams, so if you just take good notes and read over them before the exams you should be fine. She is also an excellent teacher and in my opinion is very engaging.
Cons: She does 4 random attendance checks throughout the year and you have to go to 2 plays outside of class.
I would highly recommend this class its only 55 minutes long and in my opinion is interesting, plus Susanna is a great teacher!

She discriminated against me on the final project. I had to work, and my partner had to party. Whenever I had to work he was all of a sudden available to work on the project, but when I was off work he was getting hammered. He openly stated in class his drunken adventures and said he was an alcoholic. I approached her about our project, and she said oh I know he already talked with me about it. I memorized all my lines and said them perfectly (with plenty of emotion) just to spite her, and he messed up several times. In the end when I asked how we did, she said it would have been better had I been more available. He got an A, and I got a B. Also she would be really chill, and then all of a sudden freak out about rules or being disrespectful to pretty much everyone in the classroom. On our teacher/class review day she hovered over us while we were doing our reviews, and when another student asked me a question, she freaked out and told me shut up because were doing reviews although I was just answering what the course request number was. I felt I couldn't give her a bad review because she was right there rushing us no less. Just going to be honest she only likes you if you have problems, are a theatre student, or a minority. Just don't be normal during her class. I have never had a problem with a teacher before... ever. She just flabbergasted me. No matter how nice I was she just wouldn't let up with criticism. I even showed up to 95% of her classes, and for the ones I missed I told her ahead of time, and came back with documentation.

Susanna Rinehart is a pretty good teacher. She knows her stuff and is passionate about what she teaches.

TAKE NOTES. Go to classes, take good notes, read and go to the plays, and you'll get an A.

I made the mistake on not taking great notes, and landed a B in the class. So just write down all the key points she says in class, study em and you'll be golden.

I'm not one to be into much theater and plays, but it wasn't that bad. Sure, some days are extremely boring and dull, but some are alright. She's pretty funny and keeps you awake.

Prof. Rinehart gives a lot of homework as reading. You need to keep up with it in order to do well on the tests. If you take good notes during the class (you can use your laptop) the tests shouldn't be too tricky. I reccommend reading each play twice, once when she assigns it and then another time to review over your notes and important points given in class. There are about 3 or 4 tests, the final exam is just like a regular test. She doesn't take attendance. Vey good professor!

Professor Rineheart is a very well spoken, charismatic, and kind teacher who cares greatly for her 600+ students and truly knows the subject matter of her introductory theater course. She provides a great deal of interesting insight for the plays covered in class and has excellent ways of relating the subject matter to everyday life. This is an excellent course to take for any student wishing to fulfill an area requirement while having fun, and avoiding any GPA pitfalls.

AWESOME professor!! She is one of my favorite professors at Virginia Tech. She prefers that you call her by anything other than Professor or Mrs. Rinehart, in fact, she prefers for everyone to call her Susanna. You can get by with reading spark notes and taking notes in class, but i really recommend reading the plays from the book. If you read the plays and write down what she says in class, you basically have a guaranteed A. She even admits to making her exams so that her students are able to do well. You really do have to attend class though, or at least befriend someone who will and who will take really good notes for you, because a VERY good amount of her tests are based on what she says in class. Again, an awesome class with an awesome professor. I would definitely recommend it.

This is a great class if you need an elective. Rinehart is really entertaining and will use great big hand gestures and funny voices as she paces across the room. Although there are 650 kids in the room, her personality and teaching strategies make it feel smaller. If you are looking for a sure A then I would suggest you go to class and read the plays. I know people that received A's by just sparknoting as well. Her class is entertaining and worth going to. It is not necessarily a challenging course and I expect an A but it was interesting and she was always cracking jokes and keeping the crowd entertained as if she was an actor performing.

Professor Rinehart is by far my favorite professor. I describe her as my mom, away from my mom because she is so caring and genuine. I love her class, it's easy but at the same time enjoyable. A lot of people only read the sparknotes for the plays, but I read them all and it's not difficult. She goes through step by step of the play and clarifies anything you might not understand. She also shows movies that are film versions of the plays you read, or a different take on the play. The only class I'm actually going to miss.

Gotta give it to this teacher, its a big class and not interesting, she makes it not too bad. she says its not too much reading and its not too bad if you can break it up and not have to rush to read the plays right before the test. Tests are simple, easy A. she also gives extra credit right after the plays you have to go see, and a paper for extra credit as well. NO cumulative final

This class is super easy. All you have to do is read the plays once, go to class and take some notes and show up at the exam. I got 100s on 2 of the 4 exams. Just dont get lazy because if you don't read the plays you won't do well on the tests. Prof. Rinehart is extremely nice and is very enthusiastic. She def wants everyone to do well. I would highly recommend this class.

Such a good teacher & class. It's easy and surprisingly interesting. Rinehart is awesome. She recognizes that it is intro THEATRE and almost everyone is taking it for a requirement, so it's not difficult at all if you just go to class and pay attention to the discussions. It was actually really interesting and she's a really fair grader.

I took her Intro to Theater class as a senior, and this is one of the best classes and best professors I have had! She absolutely loves what she does, and it shows. She makes the class very easy to follow, and explains all the plays very thoroughly. Easy class to get an A in if you put the effort into reading the plays and going to class.

Pros: She is a really nice professor who genuinely wants her students to do well. The material is for the most part pretty interesting.
Cons: You have to buy tickets to see plays outside of class - a total waste of money, but you have to do it because she asks questions about the plays on the tests.

She's a really nice teacher who loves teaching. Wasn't a big fan of the material though, but she tries her best to make the plays relevant. Don't buy the book, but get copies of the plays and write notes alongside them. Study over those and go to class and it is an easy A.

She just talks, kinda hard to take notes, you can never really tell whats important or not. We had one quiz and I was 5 minutes late to class because of my ride and she would not let me take the quiz, which ended up making a difference between a B or A-.
