GEO 351 - Geography of California
Give him a try!
Grade received: B+.
Pros: He was a really nice professor; he let me make up a test I missed by writing two 3-, double-spaced essays, with topics that were discussed in class (easy if you always come to class and write notes)
The class was once-a-week, but rarely lasted exactly four hours.
There was no weekly homework given [I think there were only a take-home test, a take-home midterm exam, a project, a final paper, & an open-book, open-notes final exam]
Cons: He has a really thick accent which may be difficult to understand for some people.
Sometimes, he would be over-explaining things, which caused the class to last longer than expected.

Pros: He is a kind professor, he lets his students make up for missing work after telling him their situation or story.

The professor gave me the opportunity to make up for a 4 page paper assignment I missed. Attendance consisted of only two days a week for 1hr 30 min for each class meeting. There was no homework assigned whatsoever, in class quiz, a take home test, take home midterm, final exam in which notes and textbook are allowed, and a presentation that came along with a 4 page paper on the same topic.
Cons: Although he is a comprehensive professor, what makes his class a great challenge is his accent. It is difficult to understand what he says so I recommend that is best if you sit in front of the class to hear what he says. This is a class that you are not allowed to just listen and get by through the day. You have to take really good notes based on exactly what he says. He is also confusing at often times because he over explains facts and information.
Overall, Professor Narudeen Alao was a comprehensive professor. His class consisted of on in class quiz, a take home test, take home midterm, final exam in which notes and textbook were allowed, and a presentation that came along with a 4 page paper prior to the same topic. If you think about it he is a comprehensive grader, you will understand that as you advance in this class. In the meantime, this class can be a challenge. This professor is not a clear and fluent English speaker. I myself had trouble understanding what he was trying to say at first. However, after the first week of class I decided to sit in front of the classroom and was able to better understand what he said. I recommend that you take notes throughout the entire class period on EXACTLY everything he says. I would recommend that you bring your laptop because it makes it more convenient to type in word by word what he says, that way you don't have to read the book. Review his notes once in a while for 1/2 an hour. You will understand what he says.

Pros: He is a very nice professor. He grades easy.
Cons: Very hard to understand.
Even though he is a very nice professor, I would try not to take him unless I had to. If you just want the grade, do take him, but If you want to learn, I would recommend not to since it is very hard to understand based on his accent.

Pros: -Generally a pretty nice guy in and out of the classroom.

-Flexible with the workload; always lets you turn assignments in late and gives you the assignments back to finish if they're incomplete.

-Curves like crazy. You can't score below a C if you do the assignment.

-Lets the class out early every session and wastes a lot of time taking attendance.
Cons: -Lectures are not engaging, tedious, and leave no room for class discussion.

-Claims that he wants the class to be centered on understanding of the material, but this is a lie; if the answer is not repeated back to him in his own words, you get points marked off.

-TEACHES INFORMATION THAT IS OUT OF DATE/INCORRECT.

-Very vague syllabus. He contradicts it all the time. I still have no idea what attendance is for and the project that he was supposed to assign to us on Week 3 wasn't assigned until Week 8.

This professor's biggest sin is his teaching of FALSE INFORMATION. The book contradicts him, online sources contradict him, and even my other classes contradict him, but he still expects you to repeat everything he says back to him word for word which isn't always easy given his tendency to babble and stammer and trip over his own words. He has absolutely no presence in the classroom and I've left several times in frustration because of how terrible he is at his job. His only saving grace is generally pleasant attitude and the general ease in passing the class, but you should still avoid him like the plague.

A warning: his tests are *hard*, but don't stress over them. In the end, his grading scale never drops below a C. While this is a nice thing, it does make it extremely difficult for me to care about anything we do..

Professor Alao is a very hard professor to understand. His accent is kinda heavy so many times student would have him repeat himself several times until someone understood what he was trying to say. lol He also is old and slow. Every single day of class he takes role and it seems to take FOREVER. Its like he reading it for the first time every day. The only good thing is he waste class time so after awhile I just got use to it. Another good thing is everything is take home. The midterms and quizzes are all take home which makes it easier since they would be impossible in class. However the final is in class but it was open book so I didn't even have to study. However I went to every class and took a lot of notes so it helped me answer a lot of questions. If you take notes on your computer you will have to print them out to use them on the final. The subject is general usually bores most students so its hard to pay attention so I advise to sit toward the front of class. One good thing is he is an easy grader and doesn't give anyone lower than a C on their work. I got a B+.

Never felt so robbed in my life. paying for this class was absolutely absurd. they should pay students to have to put up with his crap. makes you buy an expensive book and gives you open book tests and hw with all the answers based on his notes. mocks students in classes. and this is not my first rodeo, i am two quarters from graduation so i have taken all sorts of classes and teachers, this guy sucks and should not have a job. you are better off beating your head into a wall then taking him... really hope administration figures it out and gets rid of him. absoluetely worthless individual. Heres another thought, how is someone from Nigeria qualified to teach geography of California? yeah well he thinks he is. Bottom line, dont take it, your patience and psych will thank you

Pros: HE LETS YOU GET OUT EARLY SOMETIMES AND THE CLASS IS ONLY ONCE A WEEK
Cons: IT IS KIND OF HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS SAYING. HE LECTURES REALLY FAST. HE JUST TALKS AND TALK AND YOU HAVE TO WRITE EVERYTHING HE IS SAYING.
OVERALL THIS CLASS IS OK AS LONG AS YOU READ THE BOOK YOU WOULD PROBABLY UNDERSTAND THE BOOK BETTER THAN WHEN HE IS TALKING.
