I took this class online for FALL 2011 and there was only one teacher who taught it: Almaraz. This class is pretty easy EXCEPT you have a lot of work ahead of you. I WISH WE CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW MUCH WORK IT IS FOR A 2 UNIT COURSE!!! This class takes up more time than my 4 unit classes! Too bad everyone in MHR has to take it and too bad theres only one teacher teaching it! Expect to be writing a lot of essays. On the bright side, essays are easy since it is all about you. She's really strict about making sure you put in everything she asks. If you talk about everything she wants and follow her directions then she'll give you full credit for the assignment. Note: Shes very unclear and unorganized so you might have to email her a couple times to clarify her assignments. For example, she'll write 4-6 pages on the syllabus but on Blackboard she'll put 6-10pgs so you have to email her about it. Here is what the class consists of:

Assignments:

1) Holland Code Exercise 2 pages 20pts

self-assessment & write about yourself and career interests

2) Part 1 of Report: Self- Assessment 3-5 pages 100pts

talk about skills and your career. Cite your sources APA.

3) Information Interview Pre-Approval Form 10pts

find someone to interview in your career and get it approved by Professor Almaraz before the due date

4) Write up & analysis of Information Interview 3 pages + interview questions 40pts

write about your interview

5) Part 2 of Report: Career Research 4-6 pages 80pts

research your career and research a company/organization + spend 1 hr at Career Center

6) Part 3 of Report- Plan of Action 100pts

write about your choice in career and explain why, research an internship, develop plan by quarter

7) Activities Appendix & Write-ups (Hard Copy Required) 100pts

There are four activities you need to do before the quarter is over for this part of the class.

-Meet w/advisor + type 300+word on experience

-1 hour research at Career Center + 300+word on experience

-watch videos on academic integrity + 300+ word on what you learned

-join LinkedIn & Invite Professor Almaraz to connect + at least have 5 friends + join CPP MHR group + 300+word on experience

Those are the 4 activities REQUIRED, then there are 4 more activities of your choice. You can either attend clubs, workshops, or anything at school that has value to your career. Also, for each activity, you need to write 300+ word on your experience

8) Participation on discussion boards (at least 10 times) 50 pts

All assignments were due almost every other week.

Professor Almaraz 201 class was pretty easy. Its expected to be easy since its only 2 units. There is A LOT of writing and work involved for just 2 units but its really easy. It is time consuming for having to attend 7 different campus activities and writing a paper about your experience though. You have to do an interview, write 3 papers. one is 7-10 pages. two are 3-5 pages. you also have to write a 1 page paper for 7 different activity you did on campus like club meetings. no midterm or final! Dr. Almaraz is a great teacher! Yes, she expects a lot for a 2 unit course, but it is well worth it and you will learn a lot about yourself, your likes and dislikes. This class has helped me explore my major in a depth that could have only been done with Dr. Almaraz. There are no quizzes or tests! Only about 4-5 essays, varying in number, and you must attend events. I work full time and somehow pulled this class off, so it can be done. GOOD LUCK and enjoy the class, I know I did! She can be an okay teacher IF she likes you. I found her to be incredibly biased even though she teaches how not to be in Organizational Behavior. Her tests are multiple choice and essay BUT the essay portion outways the multiple choice unrealistically. One essay question (there are many)= 16 multiple choice problems. This would be okay if her grading wasn't so subjective. I spent most of my effort trying to give her the answer that she wanted. I went to her several times and after she looked at what she marked wrong she would give me the points back. She told me that most people in the class had a hard time even getting close to the answer so it was almost like she graded me on a higher standard. I felt like I was being punished for trying to do well in the class.. I even confronted her at the end of the quarter and she pretty much admitted that she didn't like me. The way she grades the group project is the same.. I got an A in the class but I felt like I had to get it kicking and screaming. If you care about equality in grading I wouldn't recommend her. Her class is pretty nice, wasn't boring at all, and sometimes it was funny. The only problem I had with her class was that she had 8 quizzes, which got repetitive and annoying at times. Some of the chapters were all theories and it was a little hard to study for those, just too much material. She has 2 x midterms, 2 x presentation (internet and MHR318 OB Topics) and 1 x final. The midterms weren't so bad because she gives you study guides but I felt they were useless, just read the chapters and you should be oK. Her midterms are all 3 parts, (essay, defintions, and multiple choice (25Qs)). The presentation is easy, both the internet and the OB topic one. But as for the OB topic presentation, you better pick topics which she likes, like managing diversity and the rights for women. Overall, it's lots of group work and quizzes, but easy. Just read the chapters and do the work and you should get an A.

Pros: The greatest advantage of this class is that the internship and senior project classes are explained in detail. Professor Almaraz helps point you in the right direction to graduate and expose you not only to what the campus has to offer, but the work force as well.
Cons: There is a lot of work for this class; too much. Even the professor had a difficult time keeping up with it. Prepare yourself for a LOT of writing and attending events outside of class. This class could have been more effective if the work load was trimmed down a little. The purpose of this class is not to burn out students before they leave college!
Professor Almaraz is very nice, extremely competent, occassionally snarky (but you can't really blame her). She makes every effort to help every student succeed even though you'll most likely hate her once this course is over.

She is one of the most hardest mhr teachers i have ever taken. I came to class thinking this would be an easy A but it wasn't it, you have to work your ass off for an A. I spent more time doing work for her class then my other three classes combined. She is very unorganized, turns back your assignments all late and she doesn't even read it, she grades her stuff during class!!!!! She shows us videos from the early 90's and all her informations is a few years old. this is an entrepreneurship class, it should be up to date, if you ask her a question about something recent, she doesn't know a damn thing. there is no midterm or final, but a quiz every two weeks, and an adventure notebook. Sounds easy, but it is so time consuming and you don't learn a damn thing, take someone else if you can. everyone in class was annoyed by her.

I absolutely loved her class. She was able to teach her class in a way that related exactly to the realy world. I used to work in managent so I learned a lot of new stuff and saw how what she taught related to what I had experienced. She is very cool and reasonable. She lives and teaches by the Golden Rules... that is, she treats everyone equal to each other and herself. I just can't say enough good things about her class. Take her for any class. If she is not teaching that quarter, wait until she is. You won't regret it. Oh, and if you are one of the people who just don't do well on those darn scantron test you will do great in her class. She has a lot of hands on work and she teaches and gives tests in a way so you do well and learn a lot. - Kevin :)

Almaraz is not a bad choice if you have to take MHR 318. Despite what some other people wrote, she is friendly and approachable. Her class is pretty straightforward. Show up (because she takes attendance), do simple in class group activites (they help keep you awake), and work on a group project that involves interviewing a company and then present it at the end of the quarter. You do have to turn in a short, half page summary almost every class but they are easy because it's based on personal assessments. Because there is alot of material, she gives you a study guide for each of the exams so you know what to study for. I didn't really read the chapters and studied what was on the study guide and I was still able to get an A. Grade Received: A

pretty easy teacher for mhr. one group project. 2 exams and a final that is not cumulative. you have to interview a real company for your group project and present the information applying it to what you've learned in class. she lectures off of powerpoint everytime and has 5 pop quizzes and take attendance. she does a lot of class activities and you must be a speaker of the group at least twice to get participation points. she even marks it down if you're late. you also have to do 2 current event articles that relate to the class. they're pretty easy though. she grades easy and the tests are comprised of multiple choice, essays, and key terms that you need to define. grade received: a

The course itself has a lot to offer. You form a group with 4 to 5 other students in class that have a similar interest in a small business (e.g. boutique, nightclub, sports bar, storage company, and etc.). Your group is assigned to do research on the industry, location, competitors, competitive advantage, marketing plan, and etc.

There is 3 quiz (exams) and no finals. Your group presentation of the business idea is the final assignment.

Attendance is taken and is not taken lightly. Tardiness also affects your grade. The quizzes are not too difficult. It is a lot of work. Great class.

Almarez friendly?? yeah, only if she agrees with what you say. I have never met an instructor who insults student(s) while class is in session. I felt bad for the student because the student was offended..no shame...where are her morals?? Before considering taking her, just remember she requires all your time and energy. She does not communicate what she wants in a business plan..she assumes that we know what she is asking for...just be prepared. By the way, if you take MHR 200 with her, be preapred to do A LOT OF WORK for a 2 unit class (does not make sense) Grade Received: A

I would definitely recommend Dr. Almaraz for just about any class. She is very fair in her grading and goes the extra mile in trying to keep her class interesting. Lots of group interaction which I found to be the best way to learn certain aspects of the book. Weekly quizes (3 questions) just to see if you are keeping up with the reading, a few tests that are fairly simple if you come to class and follow up a little with reading and one group project that she is pretty easy on grading as long as you look prepared. I will take her again if I can.

Pros: Knowledge about MHR

4 days to show up
Cons: Soooooooooooo much hw
I took the 5 week summer course. We only showed up 4 days because it was a hybrid class but super boring. Everyone brings their laptops and messes around with them because it's mostly powerpoint. A total highschool class!! So annoying. We had to turn in papers each week and I felt I was in highschool talking about my future. It's a good class for someone who is confused about their major and their option in the Business major but if you already know what you want its just busy work!

Pros: She is full of real world experience! Very willing to help you in any way possible.
Cons: She does give you repetitive assignments and you will wonder why you have to do certain things.
You have to be ready to dedicate a lot of time outside of the classroom to get a good grade in this class and she will tell you at the beginning of the course. The work is well worth it because it really makes you think of what the hell do I want to do after college LOL

She gives way too much work for a 2 unit class. Its really easy work, but it takes up too much time. We had to write about 4 papers. You will spend a lot of time going to events during university hour because you have to attend 10 to complete the appendix for the quarter. Take this class if you want an easy A, but again, it's a lot of busy annoying work. I actually did most of my papers last minute, and I still got an A in the class. Grade Received: A

try to take this class in the Summer because it's A LOT easier due to the fact that there isn't a lot of activities going on during summer. During regular school quarter, Dr. Almaraz gives you a lot of work for 2 units. You have to devote your time for this class as a 4 unit course. She can be intimidating at times and she is the only professor that teach MHR200. Good luck, you are going to need it. Grade Received: A

Professor Almaraz amazed me every class session. Since we only met once a week, she always had speakers come to speak to our class. The speakers were extremely informative, such as a Manager from Target, Presidents of clubs on campus, and overall I took a lot from it. Almaraz is organized and does not grade papers hard. As she will tell you, you get what you put into this class. I recommend her. Grade Received: A

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Like everyone else has said, professor almaraz is great. The curriculum is clearly stated and carried out in a very practical manner. A lot of class interaction and concepts are explained and practiced in class activities. For all you crammers--best tip for quizzes is to pay close attention to the study guides at the end of each chapter. That is if your book is Organizational Behavior--7th ed.
