Sara loves the material of the class. She does lecture with a powerpoint that she has personally made. It is filled with pictures that she has personally taken of the material. She posts the presentations on her website for student download. It is essential to read the book that her and 2 colleagues have written. Book is layed out well, but some chapters are written better than others. Book was somewhat entertaining to me, i liked the material. She gave us one map quiz. Her midterm and final are quite hard, but read the book and look over the notes taken from presentations and you can do well. Lots of people did very poorly on the midterm, i suppose due to not reading from the book. There are some weekend assignments consisting of writing half a page about a map from a website, very easy. A paper project is due near the end of the quarter, requiring a fieldtrip to botanic garden in Claremont, CA. I found the trip fun, take your mom, she will like it. Final was worth 45% of grade. It was a fun class, i would suggest taking it Grade Received: A-

She is a friendly and kind teacher. The subject can be very bland, but she is VERY good at applying it to real world events. She puts her on twist to her powerpoints. She is very knowledgeable. There is not a lot of work, if you are pretty good on computer and common sense, the exercises should be a breeze. There is a final project that isn't too hard, basically a 3-pg paper that includes some maps you make. She doesn't have a midterm, only a final, there are a lot of definitions to know. Overall, she is a delight to have as a Prof.

This was a very easy and highly enjoyable Area 5 course.Professor Garver was an extremely friendly and his lectures were informative. He was a great professor and I recommend him highly. The material was presented in a manner that was easy to digest while still being interesting. There were 2 scantron tests and a few map projects. The map projects consisted of coloring in certain regions of California on a map using colored pencils. I usually did mine the morning they were due and received full credit.I did not buy the book, however I borrowed a copy from someone and found it to be a good read for a college textbook. His lecture tests were straight from the notes. It was a great class, with a great instructor and an easy A.

Excellent professor! You will be so happy about your decision. She has you go on two mandatory field trips which are not that boring but kinda a waste of time. She teaches on power-point, and the notes are avaliable on-line. She actually teaches the class, but if you don't show up, it is easy to catch up on the material that she went over. The more you attend class the better. The midterm is easy as long as you stick with her notes and memorize the maps. The final is comprehensive, so studying would be a good idea. She is worth switching youre schedule around for.

Garver is a good professor. I suggest to take this for the GE with HER. But sometimes her lectures are kinda boring and puts you to sleep but what over rules that is that she is so nice and very friendly. Two midterms and a final. of course my own fault, i didnt do well. Study her lectures. Two homework assignments worth 100 pts. and inclass assignments. If you come to class and do at least that and dont do well on midterms and the final, you can probably pass it with a good grade.

this teacher is nice on the outside and a prick in reality. she is basically a fake. i did decent in the coarse, its not extremely hard. the class has a lot of BS work and boring powerpoint slides. the tests are kinda tough if you dont study and the material is boring so you dont want to study in the first place. she is horrible, dont take her. she is too gung ho for the average student just trying to get a synthesis upper division GE. Grade Received: B+

She is one of the best teachers that i have had at Cal Poly. She tries to keep the class interested in the topic and she uses power point. Her notes can be printed off of her webpage. Also, there are 2 field trips, which are pretty fun. Its a great way to get 1st hand experiene on the topices that we are learing about. There is one midterm and a final, and 2 papers based on the field trips. It was a great class. hope you enjoy it as much as i did.

Dr. Garver is boring but easy going. Very helpful and gives alot of freebie points. Her lectures can be boring but you can learn alot if you pay attention. He has 2 homework assignments worth 100 points each which are easy and she will give you the answers in class if you ask. She has a midterm and a final which are of moderate difficulty. Overall I reccommend Dr. Garver completely. Very Easy B, easy A. You rule Dr. Garver!

Friendly woman, but very very dull and dry. Lectures off Powerpoint and the occasional video. Subject can be incredibly boring if it's not in your major and you have no interest. But I think it's still easier than taking Chem if you need to fill that science GE. Class assignments were easy but exams were tough. Final is comprehensive. Extra credit is provided. Put in some effort and do the reading and you'll be okay.

Harder than expected but still very manageable. Dr. Garver is very polite and approachable even by those who might be rude to her. She enjoys the subject and is very straight-forward about the requirements of the class (field trip research paper of 5 pages, scantron mid-term and final which is cumulative). Lectures are all powerpoint and you can download them for the most part. I would recommend her.
