GEO 351
Geography of California
4****
Don't get me wrong he's a nice teacher but I really had a hard time in this class. His lectures are very unorganized. He does not write notes and the book was very difficult to understand, which is why the quizzes(which come from the book) were hard for me. No study guides so when it comes to the test the only thing you have is the book. So if your good at learning from a book then this class is for you. Grade Received: D

Weekly quizzes really suck, considering they're on the tiniest details sometime. So make sure to read the assigned readings. 3 tests, 10 quizzes, and a field trip report where you take 20 pictures. Do the field trip early, cuz it takes longer than you think. Should be easy points.

Hyslop at first seems very soft spoken, but later you find out he's sort of funny. I was getting a 84 percent going into the finals, and he must've curved the class alot for me to get an A-, cuz finals didn't go so well. Just keep up with the quizzes and you shouldn't even have to bother studying for midterms. Grade Received: A-

Hard to get an 'A', because it's rare that he gives full credit for ANY writing you do. Weekly quizzes can be passed only if you read the texts, because it is sometimes NOT multiple choice. Tests have both multiple choice and essay. Field trip is required, and it can be fun (depends on where). He makes things easy to understand or, at least, understandable. Also, make sure you take notes on video days, because he will test on that as well as in-class notes and information from the texts.

Tough class, you MUST read the text and another book to get a good grade in the class. I did not read the small book and didn't study enough with the text. There are weekly quizes that you will fail if you don't read the required readings for the week. It's a fun class, lots of films, and he's a pretty funny teacher. His test are rather hard. This was the hardest class I've had in Building 5. Take it if you must but be ready for a hard class. Grade Received: C

Hyslop is one of the best professors at C.P. He is very enthusiastic about the material he teaches. Gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. There is a quiz every week but if you read the chapters, they will be a breeze because they are very general and easy. No presentation, no group work, no projects. Funny guy, too! RECOMMENDED.

Good teacher. Canadian. Loves ice hockey. Knows and likes geography well. Teaches urban GEOGRAPHY. He stays away from the urban planning part and focuses on the scocial geography of cities. Tests are kinda hard so study. You must read in order to pass the weekly quiz. But if you read its easy. Good class. Recomended.

Don't take this teacher for GEO 102 if you think it's going to be easy. Maybe it was just me, but reading 2 chapters a week for a weekly quiz for a class I couldn't give a rat's ass about is too much work. There are easier teachers out there if you just want to take this class for credit.
