FRL 440 - Evaluation of Financial Policy
I had Dr. Kash for FRL 440. He tries to come across as really tough and un-friendly the first week but is actually quite the opposite. I found his lectures to be interesting and at time entertaining. He has what seems a limitless knowledge of finance...

FRL 433 - Seminar in Portfolio Management and Capital Markets

Pros: Nice man on a personal level. Generous grader. Easy in-class scantron exams.
Cons: Worst teacher ever! Doesn't teach. Expects you to already know how to do everything. Scatterered, all over the place. Doesn't follow the book. Powerpoints are disorganized and scattered too, no help. Brutal take home exams!!

I tried my best to learn something in this class only to be frustrated and learn absolutely nothing. If you take FRL 440 before this class, it might help. I didn't, so I was lost. He is a nice man, and on a personal level I like him, but he shouldn't be teaching. He doesn't seem to have that gift to explain things in an understandable way, or the desire, I don't know which. If he had followed the book, maybe I would have learned something. But he didn't, and instead was all over the place. His powerpoints were no help either. They were just as scattered and unclear. However, I'm shocked at the good grade I received. He is a generous grader! I will give him that. His take home midterm and final were absolutely brutal, but the in-class scantron tests were fairly easy.

He's always joking around in class but it is one of the toughest class I have taken in FRL. He's extremely smart so don't even try to use someone's work otherwise he'll make a fool out of you when you are presenting in class. Grade Received: A

nice guy, but his teaching style is kinda cryptic. It seems he gets mad when you ask questions. Sometimes to busy with other things other than teaching.

Pros: Easy grader, easy in class exam, nice/ funny guy, knowledgeable.
Cons: does not explain material very well, fast paced, hard take home exam. no homework (can be pro or con)
He expects us to know a lot of material regarding 330 and 315 stuff but to be honest a lot of 330 professors (I had Ghazi) don't teach the material very well. He also refers back to a lot of 300 and 301 level stuff so if you have the basics down you should be able to follow him in class. His lectures are also very powerpoint heavy so they can get very boring at times. The book was pretty much useless so you don't have to get it since there's no homework or anything and all formulas can be found online or from notes from previous courses. Take home portion of the exam was difficult since he was unclear about some of the questions. The in class part is all conceptual questions, no calculations at all about 20-30 questions. He grades the project and take home portion generously. I didn't learn much from his lectures but he is a very knowledgeable guy if you talk to him. He must have curved the class since I got a higher grade than expected. Grade received: A-

Pros: Smart guy

Lectures better than most Finance professors with accents

No required HW

Cons: Plays super favorites

If you get on his good side, he will be extremely lenient on grading
Kash has been at CPP for a long time. He is a little cocky but he does know what he is doing. He plays favorites, so if he likes you, you will get a good grade even if you dont do so good. No HW ever. Class depends on 2 tests, 1 final, 1 project. I did well on my 2 tests. All I did was study his powerpoints which got me As. The project he doesnt really grade, he more or less gives you a grade on how much he likes your group members. I think everyone in our class got either 80-90. The final is similar to the other 2 tests. The tests are from like test banks so questions are typical multiple choice questions. Study and learn how to do the very little math required and you'll know how to do the math on the test. I dont think he fails anyone.

Investment Analysis
2**
Pros: -light workload

-seems nice

Cons: -no real teaching done

-only learn smart problems

-a project he doesn't explain

-self taught

-difficult tests
He's a nice person but practically no teaching is done. He shows math problems on the board for about 30 seconds then erases it and it's not in the powerpoint(sourced from the book) and he just repeats. There is a stock analysis project in which he doesn't really do much explaining, he just assigns it to you and expects you to do it. It's quite difficult and he himself didn't invest much into checking the instructions(asking for revenue but not if he wants quarterly or annual earnings) given that both professors are terrible for 330(3301 now), the positive is that he might be *slightly* better than muhtaseb, which honestly is saying much. I recommend avoiding if possible if you know another professor than those 2 will be teaching.

Pros: nonexistent homework

light to practically no workload

Cons: no proper examples of problems

cryptic teaching style

gets distracted easily

not allowed to use laptops as resource in class

He's a knowledgeable guy, but problem is his teaching is kind of all over the place. Powerpoints are directly lifted from the publisher so are rather useless, what stuff he does write on the board is elaborated briefly where nearly the whole class misses it. There's practically no workload which is both a good and bad thing. There are no problems to reference to practice in regards to midterms. He only assigns learnsmart which is purely on concepts though there are computational problems. I feel it would help a lot if he allowed us to use laptops in class to follow along and look on things he skimmed over in a few seconds.

Managerial Finance II

Pros: um... keeping a tally of how many people he puts to sleep is kinda fun.
Cons: doesn't teach, is boring, can barely understand speech despite him living here for 15+ years.
Spends a lot of time talking about things not relevant to the course (USC, kids, past, supposed work on profitability index). Does NOT explain concepts or how they relate to other course material. Recites poorly memorized PPTs. Doesn't curve even when the class average was 50% on a test. Marks the wrong answer correct on the master scantron... A classic example of CPP's "We need DIVERSITY!! oh hey, this guy can barely speak english. Let's hire him!!!"

Pros: Really bad attitude.

He thinks very highly of himself, as if he is too good to be teaching Cal Poly students.

Very arrogant.
Cons: Very knowledgeable.
Don't ask him questions during office hours, he makes you feel as if you are bothering him.

I went into his office when he was the Chair of FRL, and he said that Question Does Not Interest Me and went back to do his work....LOL how rude is that!
